After receiving word late Thursday night that Ashlee Simpson finally went into labor, I am happy to report that she has successfully given birth to her first child with husband Pete Wentz … the couple decided to name their first born son, and you’re never gonna believe this, Bronx Mowgli Wentz:
Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and husband Pete Wentz welcomed a son Thursday night, PEOPLE confirms. Bronx Mowgli Wentz weighed 7 lbs., 11 oz., and was 20 1/2 inches long. “Ashlee, Pete and baby Bronx are all healthy and happy, and thank everyone for their well wishes!” a spokesperson tells PEOPLE.
I’m sorry … Bronx MOWGLI? Bronx ain’t that bad a name … but Mowgli? Mowgli is the name of the primary character in Rudyard Kipling‘s novel The Jungle Book … and now, it’s the middle name of the firstborn Simpson-Wentz child. I don’t really get this celebrity need to name their children strange names (Zuma Nesta Rock, anyone?) but if they really wanted to go with an even stranger middle name they could’ve named the kid Mogwai instead (in honor of the movie Gremlins). OY! In any event, congrats are in order for the happy new family. What do y’all think of the name Bronx Mowgli? Can you think of a better name for the Ashl33n baby?

In theory I really like Mowgli as a name, but in actual practice… not so much. And Bronx is just kinda random.
Truthfully I wish they had named it Peter Lewis Kingston Wentz IV (since Pete is III). While a bit long and pretentious sounding I like it and think its a sweet tradition.

These celebrities might think its cute to give their kid a completely ridiculous foul name but later on in high school they are going to be teased relentlessly for it. So they can thank their selfish parents for that.

Mowgli is wonderful for your pet cat or dog (or feral boy you happen upon in a jungle). But a human?? I’d pass. At least some of these celebrities invent wacky names that somehow seem to work and flow with one another. But Bronx Mowgli does NOT roll off the tongue in any shape or fashion. Try saying it 3 times fast, haha.

mowgli was the nickname of ashlee’s ex bandmate and ex-bf braxton while they were on tour. because he was from hawaii, they would call him mowgli. little strange dontcha think? plus bronx’s name is just a few letters away from brax

I actually think Mowgli is a pretty cute middle name, but it doesn’t go well with Bronx at all (which I hate that name). I’m getting annoyed with this strange name thing. There are ways to name your child originally without making them sound stupid.

I thought the name ‘Mowgli’ may have come from the fact that I could see Pete Wentz having that name as a child. To me, he’s always looked a little feral and into that whole dancing-with-monkeys thing. However, I would assume that would bring up bad rather than good memories, so I’m still confused. :(
