Peace The Spork Out, ‘Lipstick Jungle’

NBC axes 'Jungle' and 'My Own Worst Enemy'
Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Sad news for fans of the NBC shows Lipstick Jungle and My Own Worst Enemy … it is being reported that both shows have been given the axe and will be yanked off the air post haste due to poor ratings. While I doubt many people will shed a tear for Enemy (except for the 7 Christian Slater fans out there somewhere), I imagine that there are quite a few fans of Jungle (like my boo David and my friend Darion) who will be lamenting the demise of their show. It’s dunzo, y’all:

NBC has pulled the plug on freshman tentpole drama “My Own Worst Enemy” and returning sophomore series “Lipstick Jungle,” sources said Wednesday. The cancellations come after both shows dropped to new ratings lows in recent weeks, with the Christian Slater action series sinking to a 1.8 among adults 18-49 (4.3 million viewers) on Monday and “Jungle” falling to a 1.2 (3.3 million viewers) on Friday. Although the “Jungle” number was an improvement on the previous week, the show’s ratings have been below the line for a while and sunk into the red zone after being moved to Fridays. NBC’s expectation for the return of “Jungle” was modest, but “Enemy” was considered an important show. A spy thriller with a grown-up budget inspired by the “Bourne” movies, “Enemy” received NBC’s coveted post-”Heroes” time period. That valuable Monday hour of scheduling real estate has become less worthwhile in recent weeks, however, as “Heroes” shed viewers — weakening the lead-in for “Enemy” and hastening its decline. No word whether Monday’s episode will be yanked from the schedule, if the show will solider on for a few more weeks or what program will take its place. “Enemy” is now shooting its ninth — and final — episode. “Lipstick” has shot all 13 of its initial order.

Damn! It’s scary to think that Heroes‘ coattails are not what they used to be and the show’s sagging popularity is part of the reason Enemy was canceled. If Heroes doesn’t shape up and start pulling in better ratings, can its demise be that far off? While I didn’t pay any attention to the Christian Slater show, I did hear great things about Lipstick Jungle. Both David and Darion are big fans of the show and would sing its praises to me very often … especially when it came to Robert Buckley’s character Kirby:

I may not have been watching the show but I have been paying attention to the filming of the show. Do y’all remember THIS post that featured sweaty, shirtless pics of Robert Buckley and Kim Raver filming a scene in NYC early this past Summer? I’m very bummed that Robert will no longer be required to film scenes like this any longer :( Do Did any of y’all watch either of these shows? What’re y’all’s thoughts?

Checking In With Parker Foster Aiken

The Claybaby pops up this week on 'Dr. Phil'
Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Pink reader Ash gave me the head’s up that Clay Aiken and his babymama Jaymes Foster made a quick appearance on Dr. Phil this week during an episode devoted to famed music-maker David Foster and his 40-year career in the biz. Despite the fact that I hate everything that Dr. Phil stands for (ie. his misguided charlatan psychobabble and meddling), I thought that it would be worth sharing to show the photo of Clay, Jaymes and their newborn baby boy Parker that was featured on the show:

You may recall that Clay Aiken became a father on August 8 of this year (08.08.08) when his friend and music collaborator, Jaymes Foster, gave birth to his child by artificial insemination in vitro fertilization. You may also recall that just over a month after the birth of his son, Clay came out of the closet and admitted his sexuality on the cover of People magazine. That was the last time we saw what Parker Foster looked like … until now. The little guy is getting so big … and is still SOOOO cute! Again, I’m not much of a Clay Aiken fan but I do commend him for coming out and being honest about who he is … and I do think his baby boy is ADORABLE. Glad to see that this little family is doing so well :)

Kristen Stewart Does ‘Teen Vogue’ Magazine

The 'Twilight' starlet gets her own cover
Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Kristen Stewart, the star of the much-anticipated movie Twilight, is featured on the cover of the December/January issue of Teen Vogue magazine (on sale November 18) all by her lonesome. Not sharing the coverspot with any of her Twilight co-stars, Kristen is featured alone. Here is her coverphoto and a portions of her Teen Vogue coverstory interview:

Kristen Stewart’s TEEN VOGUE cover shoot took place by the beach in sunny Malibu, California – a far cry from the dreary coastal city of Portland, Oregon, where most of the actress’s latest project, the dark thriller Twilight, was filmed. Kristen snagged the leading role after a four-hour audition with indie director Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown). And after almost a decade in the business – including a series of impressive roles in films such as Panic Room with Jodie Foster, Into the Wild the Emile Hirsch and the indie film In the Land of Women – she finally has a project that might just prove to be her first bona fide blockbuster. Twilight is the hotly anticipated adaptation of author Stephanie Meyer’s smash-hit debut novel – all four titles in the now-complete series continue to be best sellers – but before Kristen got the script she had never even heard of the books. “I guess I was just living under rocks and mountains,” she says cheerfully. “And though we were warned, I figured it would be a pretty exclusive fan base. I thought we were making a cult movie; I had no idea it was going to be this, like, phenomenon.” Despite having Kristen’s merits debated on Internet message boards before she had even shot a frame of film, she is almost improbably perfect to play the part of Bella Swan, a recently relocated high school junior who falls in love with a vampire named Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson. “Bella’s a very relatable girl,” says Kristen. “She inhabits qualities that most girls have, even if it’s not on the surface.” Physically, Kristen works: she is capable of being both slightly plain (as Bella feels) and impossibly beautiful (as Edward sees her). “What I love about the story and what puts it on a different level is that it’s ‘chemical’ … there’s nobody else for either of them. Period.” The romance, which Kristen describes as “unworldly but not fake,” was a big draw. She did, on occasion, draw from her own romantic life – she’s been with boyfriend Michael Angarano “forever” as she puts it. Kristen lived in an apartment on her own for the first time while shooting Twilight. “You are an insane person after you wrap a movie!”, she says. “Especially with Twilight. You spend three and a half months living the story. We all had one main goal, we were all equally invested and focused – it was just a very intertwined experience.” What about Kristen’s take on fashion? “If I’m just chilling out, then people can see me any which way, but it’s different when you’re putting yourself together to do something professionally,” she says. “You’re under a lot of scrutiny,” she admits. “It’s a bizarre thing, to me, to consider that what I wear or what I do with my hair, can affect my career.” But Kristen respects the process and takes it in stride. “I’m not the type of person who has a million things in my closet to put together, so I’ve begun to work with a stylist and we’ve started to figure out what I like. Simple, classically pretty things; I love Chanel.”

Truth be told, I’m not too crazy with this coverphoto but I do like the way she comes across in this Teen Vogue interview. I was unaware that I had previously seen Kristen in other movies (Panic Room, Into the Wild) and now have a better context to see her in. While reading the books, I never had a particular image of Bella Swan in my head but I suppose now that she has a face in Kristen Stewart, I can see how she might make a good Bella. I imagine there are many fans of the books that have a different image of Bella in their minds (mebbe an image that closely resembles what they look like) so we’ll have to see how those folks take to Kristen’s portrayal of Bella Swan when the movie opens on November 21. The interview gets a thumbs up from me … the coverphoto, not so much. Am I wrong … do any of y’all like the pic?

PETA Protests The ‘Influence’ Of The Olsen Twins

Show their dislike of the "fur tramps" and the "fur hags from hell"
Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were on hand for an in-store booksigning at Borders book store in Westwood, CA last night signing copies of their new book Influence for the waiting throngs of fans. Unfortch for the twins, their fans weren’t the only folks who showed up for last night’s in-store appearance. A group of protesters from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals came out for the event to protest the girls’ love of fur. Here are a couple pics of the Olsens trying to make their getaway and some of the protesters displaying their signs:

Man, PETA is showing no signs that they have any plans to let the Olsen twins off the hook for their love of fur. It’s been a few months since PETA launched their Meet the Trollsen Twins website and it looks like the anti-Olsen campaign is still going strong. I understand that the twins were targeted at their NYC in-store appearance a couple of weeks ago as well. Now, I’m not the biggest fan of the Olsens (well, I’m not much of a fan at all) but even I feel bad that the little munchkins are bearing the brunt of this anti-fur campaign alone. Meh, I’m sure I’ll get over it, tho.

The ‘Pregnant Man’ Is Having Another Baby

If at first you succeed ...
Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Four months ago Thomas Beatie, the transgendered person more famously known as the “Pregnant Man”, gave birth to his first child with his wife Nancy Beatie. Susan Juliette was born on July 3 to much fanfare and was introduced to the world about 3 weeks later. This week, the Beaties show off little Susan Juliette to Barbara Walters on ABC’s 20/20 and share a bit of exciting news — the “Pregnant Man” is pregnant again:

Thomas Beatie, the controversial “pregnant man” who gave birth to a daughter earlier this year, reveals to Barbara Walters in an exclusive interview that he is pregnant again with his second child. Thomas Beatie, a transgender, welcomed a baby girl, Susan, June 29. Since sharing the story of Susan’s birth with ABC News, he and his wife, Nancy Beatie, hadn’t spoken to the media until they sat down last month with Walters. Thomas Beatie, who is in his first trimester, tells Walters he did not go back on the male hormone testosterone after Susan’s birth so he could have another baby. “I feel good,” he said. “I had my checkups with my hormone level, as far as the HCG. And everything is right on track.” He says the baby is due June 12. Thomas Beatie also spoke to Walters about Susan’s birth, which was not via Caesarean section. He was in labor for 40 hours; Nancy Beatie cut the umbilical cord.

I mean … why not, right? It sounds like the Beaties are very interested in having as normal a family life as they can (with the 2 1/2 children and all) considering the man in the relationship is the one having the kids. They look really happy and it goes to show that the power of love knows no bounds. I gotta say that I think the fam should be commended for keeping out of the public spotlight for as much as they have. Except for the handful of interviews they’ve done with ABC, People magazine, etc. they’ve really stayed out of the limelight (this is the first we’ve heard from the family since the baby’s birth in July). It gives me great pleasure to be among the first folks to congratulate them on the impending arrival of their second child and wish them all the happiness in the world!!

Jake Gyllenhaal Talks To ‘ET’ About ‘Prince Of Persia’

"It's massive and epic and it's, like ... beyond that"
Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Jake Gyllenhaal sat down with Entertainment Tonight to talk for the very first time about his new movie Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time … and he looked pretty damn good all the while, if I say so myself. Here are a few screencaps from his brief interview with ET:

Jake Gyllenhaal plays a 6th century prince who holds the fate of the world in his hands in the sweeping fantasy-adventure ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,’ and ET’s Thea Andrews got up close and personal with the newly minted action hero on the London set! So, how did Jake get that buff bod? “I over-prepared myself because I never knew how much they were going to ask me to do, so I just made sure I’d be hopefully able to do anything,” a playful Jake tells Thea. The former ‘Brokeback Mountain’ star trained for months before the arduous Moroccan desert shoot, and has been training daily to maintain his action-hero physique, gaining five pounds of muscle. “I guess I’ve gotten buff,” he shrugs. “There’s a lot acrobatics in the movie — a lot of running up walls, and jumping on things and Parkour, so it requires muscularity, but it requires a lot of aerobic ability too.” When filming finally wraps, Jake promises with a smile, “It’s going to turn into fat and I’m going to be happy.” ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ blockbuster producer Jerry Bruckheimer is bringing ‘Prince of Persia’ to life, based on the hugely popular video game and scheduled to open in theaters on May 28, 2010. The story finds Jake as Dastan, a young Persian prince who must join forces with the beautiful and feisty princess Tamina (played by ‘Quantum of Solace’ Bond girl Gemma Arterton) to prevent a villainous nobleman (Ben Kingsley) from possessing the Sands of Time — a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world. “I’m running away from family and I’m running away from bad guys and I’m trying to prove my innocence,” says Jake, trying to keep the play-by-play plot details a secret. “There’s so many extraordinary elements throughout the movie.”

Apparently, Jake will be speaking with a British accent in the film and has been using his accent even when he is not on the movie set for practice … but unfortch (or fortch, I’m not quite sure yet) he did not use his fake British accent in this interview with ET. After the jump, watch the video interview in full …
