Tina Fey Does Sarah Palin Better Than Sarah Palin
Comedienne and former Saturday Night Live castmember, Tina Fey, returned to the SNL stage last night in the guise of Sarah Palin, VP nominee for the Republican party, for the 4th time but this time was joined on stage (altho only in passing) with the actual Sarah Palin herself. Word came out late Thursday night that Palin would be making an appearance on SNL to try and score points with voters (much like Hillary Clinton did earlier this year) but it was not revealed in what capacity she might appear. Speculation ran from guesses that she might do an entire skit with the cast to guesses that she might appear alongside Tina Fey for a duel of the Palins. It turns out that Palin’s appearance was really nothing more than a short cameo. She essentially stood by while other people were funny around her (including Tina Fey, who was HILARIOUS again) offering only a few unfunny lines. Here is video of the opening skit that featured Palin and Tina Fey:
Seriously, Tina was freakin’ hilarious. It’s a shame that Palin didn’t get in on the fun because I think it might’ve helped her immensely. I didn’t find her standing around to be very funny at all. Palin did come out and appear on the SNL stage one more time during the Weekend Update. After the jump, check out that video — trust me, it’s not to be missed. Amy Poehler raps, ’nuff said …
Ye Gods, this was insanely funny. Amy Poehler, Tina Fey and Kristen Wiig are the best things about SNL right now and they deserve all the credit for the popularity that the show is enjoying these days. Again, I think Palin missed an opportunity to get in the fun here … she just comes out, sits there and offers a couple of unfunny lines. To her credit, I liked that she raised the roof:

But that was the extent of funny that we got from her. Both Tina Fey and Amy Poehler made last night’s ep of SNL not only worth watching but an entirely enjoyable experience overall. Guest host Josh Brolin wasn’t so bad either ;)

Oh Fey and Poehler are the shizznit!! Fey’s portrayal is indeed better than the original and Poehler brought out her rappin’ best!! Those Eskimos in the back were hilarious! SNL has clearly redeemed themselves in my opinion since they had been so unfunny for quite a while…………..well done Fey and Poehler!!

OMG… Last night, I was soo confuse. I couldn’t even tell who’s the real Sarah Palin. hahah!

& the rapping was a hit too.

Hilarious – I LOVE what SNL has been doing with this campaign! It’s finally funny again. I do NOT think that this is going to win Sarah Palin any votes though. It’s kind of pathetic – SNL is making a complete mockery out of her campaign and the mere idea of her becoming vice-president, and she doesn’t really seem to get it. While I was watching, all I could think was how Obama would never agree to participate in something like this. Yeah, he has a sense of humour, but they’re laughing AT her. And it’s hilarious, and I love it. But it just shows how completely oblivious she is. How can anyone take her seriously?

For the first time in awhile I am actually looking foward to SNL. Tina and Amy are hilarious!!
October 19th, 2008 at 10:17 am
Haha, I don’t want her in any position to lead the USA, but Sarah Palin is a cute.
October 19th, 2008 at 10:22 am
I think she deserves some credit for getting on the stage that has been making fun of her.
October 19th, 2008 at 10:24 am
Not a Palin fan what so ever but I agree with Christine.
Even though she just stood around- she took the mocking well. That rap was HILARIOUS
October 19th, 2008 at 10:56 am
Fantastic! But I also liked the Mark Wahlberg/ Andy Samberg thing too… say hi to your mother for me!

Is there anything funnier than a super-pregnant woman rapping and pretending to shoot a moose? ‘Cause if there is, I dare you to find it.
October 19th, 2008 at 11:51 am
*LOL* at JHop
October 19th, 2008 at 11:53 am
Sorry, but the FUNNIEST thing last night was Marky Mark and Andy in the hallway…made my night!
October 19th, 2008 at 11:59 am
The rap stole the show I thought…especially w/Amy completely preggers! HA!
October 19th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
If Sarah P. had done more on SNL, her critics would be saying how unprofessional she is. I give her a lot of credit for going on the show at all.

“All the plumbers in the house put your hands up,
All the plumbers in the house pull your pants up”
HAHAHA
October 19th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
YES!!!! Super pregnant Poehler brought the shit. Love it!
I also love Kristin Wiig as the over-excited can’t-keep-a-secret lady. Priceless. On one kneee!! I LOVE TRADITION!

Who’s to blame for her not doing full sketches? She’s not a writer..I don’t think any politician who’s gone on SNL has done full sketches, have they? She came out and did her thing on a show that does nothing but mock her and McCain and kiss up to Obama..I think it took guts..Will it win them more votes? I doubt it, but I’m glad she showed she can roll with the punches..
October 19th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
Dueling Palins would have been so funny! No, I don’t think her appearance will gain her more votes, but it does show she is a good sport. I’m sure her appearance boosted SNL’s ratings. Amy Poehler’s rap was hilarious!
October 19th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
Hillary Clinton doing a full skit with Amy Poehler earlier this year: http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/clips/response-sen-clinton/224732/

That link froze my computer! Thanks Trent! ;) All I’m saying is that Sarah Palin isn’t a writer..She didn’t write her skits so she shouldn’t be blamed for not being in the show more..She was in 2 separate sketches! I don’t think that’s so bad..I’m not a fan of Hillary so I guess that’s why I missed that sketch! I have no problems admitting that I was wrong, though..So touche, Trent.. :)

SNL needs to bow down to politics for making them what they are this year :)
October 19th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
I thought the Weekend Update skit was one of the most bizarre things I’ve ever seen. Did Sarah Palin not listen to the words of the rap song? I don’t agree with her politics, but I was embarrassed for her. And her husband…geez. It’s one thing to poke fun at yourself – it’s quite another to let people make a laughing stock of you.
October 19th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
I can’t believed she played into their trap. It’s bad enough that she’s the butt of the joke and obviously uncomfortable but acting like she’s a good sport when she’s cringing and perhaps hurting a little inside – she went for it. It’s bad enough people subject you to insult but trying to act like it doesn’t matter to you when it does – people can tell. But nonetheless it was funny as hell watching her squirm and sit uncomfortably through the whole thing. Funny as hell!
October 19th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
i thought it showed she was a good sport. they didn’t say anything new or different than they’ve said when she wasn’t there. i’m not a fan, but i was excited she was on. and i couldn’t get over how much that tina fey looks like her!
October 19th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
I love Sarah!
I loved how she bobbed her little head to the music. The best part was when “Todd” came out in his snow mobile costume HAHA
October 19th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
It shows Sarah’s strength that she is able to laugh at herself. She knows she has more to offer than the liberal media would have you believe.
October 19th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Brilliant!
October 19th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
Sarah is amazing and I love her for it! she wasn’t on SNL to convince voters people duh, she’s there to show her personality and to allow people to get to know a different side of her, hello.
October 19th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
well, she’s stupid… but anyways.. if i was an american i wouldnt vote for her.
but tina was awesome!
October 19th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
I still don’t understand why people are saying they won’t “vote” for Sarah Palin. She’s not running for anything! She was selected and accepted a place on a ticket, but people are voting either for McCain or Obama. Semantics maybe, but true. And you don’t see Biden being slammed in the manner of Palin. No one’s saying they won’t “vote” for Biden. At any rate, I give Sarah credit for showing up and taking a couple on the chin. It shows her strength of character. Whether you like her or not, whether you agree with her politics or not, you can’t say she isn’t classy.
October 19th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
It was hilarious, you all need to lighten up! She obviously knew they were mocking her, that’s what they’ve been doing for the past month, but she has a sense of humor about it. It was all in good fun.
To Lana and Hmanroe: She didn’t look uncomfortable at all, she looked like she was having a great time. You could even see she stuck around for the bow at the end :)
October 19th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
this stuff was good but i was more entertained by the Mark Whalberg scenes. if you saw last weeks “mark whalberg talks to animals” skit by andy samburg then having mark appear on this weeks was hilarious! That was the highlight for me
October 19th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
I have a lot of respect for her to show up on a set knowing that almost everyone there is gunning for her failure. Of COURSE they’re not going to write anything hilarious for HER to do… they want her to look as bad as possible. I wasn’t shocked at all by that. The bias of Hollywood makes me sick. Governor Palin rocks for not letting those bastards intimidate her!
October 19th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
I absolutely love and adore Sarah!
October 19th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Sarah Palin is SO MUCH PRETTIER than Tina Fey.
October 19th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Wow for the first time I actually felt sorry for Sarah Palin, who actually had to watch herself getting dissed IN FRONT of her and having to pretend it was funny. Her nomination as vice-president is such a big mistake, not just for America but for herself. Neither America nor Sarah should be having to go through this.
October 19th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
This coming from the guy who thought Michael Phelps was hilarious? I love you Trent, but I think sometimes your political blinders get in the way of your generally top-notch blogging!
October 19th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
Aidan: Um, people aren’t taking hits at Biden because he is not a completely clueless candidate like Palin. And yes, we are voting (or not) for Palin. As she stated in the debate, she seems to think the vp’s responsibilities can be stretched, and with McCain being 73 with past cases of melanoma, there is a strong chance she may have to take over as president.
And as for classy, giving a shoutout in the middle of a debate is not what I consider to be classy. Nor is aerial wolf hunting.
It’s kind of sad that Tina Fey is the best thing to happen to SNL this season and she’s not even on the show anymore! SNL has just been awful…
October 19th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
LMAO – SNL women are absolutely CLASSIC!!!
think palin is absolutely ignorant, right-wing and bad news for the world, but props to her for going on the show.
however – love that they took the piss out of her!
October 20th, 2008 at 6:25 am
@ Jill-say what? SNL is pop culture, and yes currently they are dealing with politics. Trent’s “blinders” (or lack thereof) have nothing to do with this as far as I can tell. Although I don’t want to speak for Trent.
Seems to me he’s merely finding funny, relevent events and info that relate to the popular culture of today and posting it for our pleasure. It would be different, you know, if he was linking to CNN articles or something…lighten up a bit!
October 20th, 2008 at 7:13 am
This actually made me respect Sarah Palin since SNL is so obviously making fun of her and she took it all with grace and dignity. I would not have done the same.
October 21st, 2008 at 1:59 pm
I love Sarah Palin! I thought it showed a lot of character, poise, class and courage for her to go on SNL when they are clearly gunning for her failure. The thing i noticed the most was just how pretty Palin is…especially compared to Tina Fey. As far as all those people talking about her lack of qualifications – just what has Biden done? Besides lie about his academic achievements, make up stories about being under enemy gunfire in Iraq while in a helicopter and now warning the nation that we will have an international crisis within six months if Obama is elected. Just some facts about Sarah Palin – Americans first line of missile defense that protects the entire United States is 49th Missile Defense Battalion of Alaska National Guard. The 49th Missile Defense Battalion of Alaska National Guard is also the ONLY National Guard on permanent active duty. Sarah Palin is the Commander-in-Chief of the 49th Missile Defense Battalion of Alaska. Governor Sarah Palin is also the only Governor that is routinely briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security and counter-terrorism. Finally, Governor Palin has a higher classified security rating then both Biden and Obama. It is so disturbing how ignorant and niave people are regarding Governor Palin’s credentials.
October 21st, 2008 at 6:01 pm
It’s great that Sarah Palin had a chance to do this. She definitely handled everything well and played along with the jokes a good amount. She is a really amazing person and a hell of a lot more respectable than Biden or Obama, in my opinion.
McCain 08!
October 26th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
omg… this is the first time I saw this rap. I watched it 3 times in a row. That was funnier that shit…lol
