‘The Hills’: ‘Dear Lauren …’
Last night’s episode of The Hills had some pretty monumental developments (at least, by the show’s standards) but despite all the monumentalness, I really found the whole ep very unthrilling. The highlight for me was “the letter” that was read aloud during the ep … as well as the fall-out from said letter:
There was a bit of go-betweening happening in last night’s drama and a poorly shoved in side plot but for the most part I found that there really wasn’t much to latch onto … well, except for that letter. After the jump, find out who penned what do who and who was pissed at who as a result in the ep titled If She Never Met Spencer …
Okay … so finally Holly Montag’s existence has been made crystal clear to The Hills audience. She is meant to be a stand-in for Heidi and acts as a go-between betwixt Team LC and Team Heidi … much to Spencer’s dismay:
First things first … I thought it was funny that Lo was put in the Whitney position at the start of the ep. The duty fell to Lo to react to LC’s plot setup in the cold open (the segment of the episode before the credits roll) … and while I love Lo to death, I don’t think that her facial expressions are quite up to par just yet. She’s really gonna hafta work on it if she wants to take over the Whitney Port position. I really hated the way that Audrina’s subplot got thrown into the mix … I don’t understand what the drama is really about … Justin Bobby gets jealous over a new guy — who cares? If anything, all this bullshizz with JB makes Audrina just look like a weak person. She seems so afraid to make him angry for fear of losing his attention … it’s really kinda sad (especially since we saw in the preview for the next ep that she really goes all out to show him how much she still cares for him despite dating the new dude on the side). I say, less of that crap and more of the LC vs. Heidi drama that we’ve come to love — and expect. So … the letter. Heidi wrote LC a very poignant if short letter, which Whitney read aloud in full. Here is the full text of Heidi’s letter to LC:
Lauren,
I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am about everything. I’m so sorry for every negative or hurtful comment I’ve ever said. That is not how I feel or who I am. I think you are a great person and I will always cherish our memories. Thank you for everything you have ever done for me. I really wish things hadn’t turned out this way but I take responsibility. This whole thing has also been really hard for me.

Whitney seemed to discount the genuineness of the letter a little bit but kinda backpeddled and made a small case in Heidi’s defense. LC seemed unmoved. Spencer lost his shit and really freaked out when he found out that Heidi even deigned to communicate with LC (btw: is it just me or has Spencer really turned up the evil factor? He looks about 5 secs. away from hitting something or someone these days. His ability to turn a normally benign shushing into something more sinister is really disturbing). It looks to me like that plot line is going to be developed further … Spencer threatens to leave if meddling Holly stays and Heidi will have to choose between a life with her boyfriend (finacée?) or to allow her sister to stay in her life. Whatever will Heidi do? Will she choose the path of righteousness or will she succumb again to the dark side of the Force? I must admit, even tho I know what side she’s gonna choose, I really kinda want to see what she’s gonna do (as I’m sure many other folks want to know as well) … and that is exactly why The Hills is so popular. Damn you, MTV! I just can’t get enough. Even when I’m unthrilled with an ep, I still want more. How will all this drama end? And, more importantly, what did y’all think?

I agree with you about Spencer!! Audrina is a bitch, why lead someone on when you know your still all over Justin Bobby, i mean what has Justin ever do to Audrina just make her look stupid and like a slut (especially in the next ep) Lauren should just give it up and become Heidi’s friend and stop making Heidi look stupid alway trying to apologize. I mean you see she is really lost (like Whiteney said) She needs friends.

I think Spencer is pure evil. It’s like I know this show has to be totally fake, but that is the one thing I totally believe! I just find the whole thing so puzzling. If their whole “relationship” is not all an elaborate set up for publicity, then that would mean Heidi is in an abusive relationship and then I actually feel sorry for her.
I don’t know though, if this was all fake – why would Spencer allow himself to be shown in this light? Does he enjoy being hated? Does he assume we all think he is just pretending for the show and he’s really a normal person? The whole narrative of Heidi’s plot is that she “gave up so much” to be with Spencer but then in press, she says stuff that totally contradicts that and makes it seem like she is so happy with Spencer. It’s all a bit of a brain-bender frankly.
I gotta say, if he isn’t the biggest douchebag on the planet and this is all an act – the guy deserves an Oscar because I like seriously hate him. I want to reach through my TV screen and smack that stupid smirk right off of him. On the show, it seems this is all leading to Heidi dumping his sorry ass but we know from all of their staged paparazzi shots, that they are still “together”. Ack – this show is too much – I wish I could turn away!

I love The Hills! Is it me or does Heidi resemble Hugh Hefner’s now ex girlfriend Holly Madison? I think it’s all that blonde hair. Heidi and Spencer’s relationship is very bizarre to me…how can she be with a guy that SHH’s her sister?

I thought it was all so contrived! Why would Heidi send the letter now? It was so funny when Whitney read it. I think LC reacted the right way and said if dipstick Spencer left then she “might” be friends with Heidi again (and I really don’t know why she would ever want to be friends with her again, Heidi is so far from who she use to be). If that is a taste how Audrina’s show would be then it is going to bomb. I am so sick of JB. He is pointless. I will be a zombified watcher and return once again next Monday night. I love LC. She really is the best character on the show!! Keep rocking it girl and keep talking smack about Spencer!! The best part of the show is how it is a few months old so we already know that Speidi don’t break up nor do LC and Heidi ever become friends again! I wish it was taped like last week and then shown this week!

I can never get enough of Spencer’s antics (c’mon it makes for great tv), but I think it’s about time that someone beats his arse for being such an arse. Spencer crying would be Christmas and Birthday present all rolled into one.
I don’t think Heidi will ever be capable of having it totally out with Spencer but maybe Holly will be the one who can throw down the gauntlet and get things right for her sister.

How does Heidi stay with someone whom is so disrespectful to her family? I thought she was so “together” when she ended it with Spencer only to find out – maybe not so much. And does Spencer work, I mean beside on his evilness??

I was wondering the same thing – does Spencer work? I know he’s like Heidi’s “agent” or something, but is that all he does? Aside from the fact that he’s a total douchebag, I would be so frustrated if my boyfriend sat on his ass all day while I was out working. Ugh, I used to be able to tolerate Heidi… but now any respect I had for her is gone. After seeing her allow Spencer to treat her family members the way he has in the past two episodes, I think she’s just as bad as he is.

So Im really hoping all this hub bub all the publicity and pics with Heidi and Spencer are all exactly that.. publicity, I’m on the bandwagon that they are either TOTALLY faking their relationship or maybe they are sucked into the same realm as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. I can’t stand Spencer, he disgusts me with just the mere sight of him on the screen, I’m glad its only for a short time thats for sure!! And if MY BF was talking to my mom or sister like he has.. I would have b*tch slapped him for SURE! She doesnt need him… she NEEDS to eat some food, find a new haircolor, and ditch the dweeb already!!

Umm so Audrina’s date (forget the name) is WAY hot. SO much better eye candy than JB…sorry…but they are adults, and playing the “Oh…you’re dating? Well, whatever, I don’t care, I’m dating too you know” game is absolutely redic. I say grow up to both of them.

The whole Lauren and Audrina thing may be addressed on The After Show on MTV next week. I think you guys get it in the US ( I’m from Canada) but last night they said she would be there live and we may find out what is going on with them.

This show is so damn addicting, I can’t even believe that I watch it but I can’t help myself. I’m a Hills Junkie. I feel like this season more than ever is so scripted. Spencer is totally fake, he can’t possibly act like that and treat Heidi’s family like that in real life. I think he is playing a part and I think Heidi has filled her famliy in on it beforehand and they are all simply playing along. Obviously they need to create drama in order to stay relevant and that is what they are doing why else would they only break up during the filming of the Hills and then look completely fine in “real life”
I’m so annoyed when I watch the show – but I can’t stop watching – it’s a sickness haha

Spencer is THE biggest douche ever. Seeing his sister, they must have the most undesirable a$$holes for parents.
I felt bad for Holly but then Lo came in, to make her feel even more awkward, which seems to be what she does best (yes, Lo is annoying).
I do wish Heidi would come to her senses and just drop that idiot and move on and up with her life. Btw, Audrina is really hot but she too needs to move on from Justin. He is cute but not as cute as the new guy she has and she doesn’t deserve the way he treats her.

I just have to comment about the fact that people may think the show is scripted…………i dont know if it is or not, and i really dont care because i love the show…………but i know that things like this do happen in real life. girls fall for guys and they let them act like the biggest assholes ever and just keep going back, keep choosing the guy like Heidi does with Spencer. I know cause I’ve done it myself. and also the situation with Audrina and Justin Bobby………..i totally get how she must feel, wanting him to care, and show it and him dating other girls and all that…………..i think thats why i like the show so much is because there are so many aspects of my real life that are the same as on the show.

this show is so freaking stupid. I don’t know why I continue to watch it. Spencer is a douchebag, plan and simple. Heidi gives girls everywhere a bad rap – stop with the fake boobs, bleached hair, ditz personality, and letting your boyfriend control you. I really would love to see him get his ass kicked because the kid thinks he is god’s gift. To whom? I have no idea. I take dumps that look better than him.

Either Spencer’s REALLY not that much of a douche bag in real life (no self-respecting person would let their partner treat their family so horribly) or Heidi did something illegal and Spencer’s blackmailing her. Those are the only explanations I can come up with for why she’d stay with him. There are plenty of other (much better looking) potential mangers in LA who could make her money…and bring her more credibility.

Spencer really creeped me out last night. He looks like he went of the deep end…not just went…more like tied weights to his legs and threw himself off. He is very controlling and manipulative to the point that it’s almost abusive. I kinda feel sorry for Heidi but not really. There is a point where you need to step back and evaluate your life and cut out the bad people. But…this is the way they are in order to get publicity.
Also I love Whitney! Her facial expressions are priceless!!
I love this show and my husband thinks it’s funny that I have to watch it every Monday night! :-)

But you know what, i think the whole Justin Bobby and Audrina thing is a refreshing change of atmosphere. It sometimes feels like this feud between LC and Heidi is stretching its limit. How long can MTV keep this up? Who else will they bring in? Heidi’s father? Hmmm.. I just hope that Spencer becomes a more decent person though. I love Heidi to death and I don’t think she should put up with her lonely situation. Sometimes I don’t understand why she is trying so hard to please Spencer. She doesn’t need him to be complete. He just adds on to her complete happiness. So doesn’t have to please Spencer. I just want to see Spencer do something for Heidi for a change. Hmmm. And I think LC is the main cause of every friendship she has ever broken. She’s always thinking that its never her fault and that she wants to control everyone. it’s obvious lauren and heidi wont be friends and the fact that speidi will remain together after seeing them on their various outings. However, one can only dream they make friends again, it brings a tear to my eye when i sometimes re-watch season 1 and see how we all became fans of the hills in the first place.
