The ‘Americana’ Way

Yesterday I met up with Mike and his sister Jill for an evening of hanging out at the “new Grove” that opened earlier this year in Glendale, CA. Called The Americana, the new shopping center in Glendale is set up much the same way that The Grove in LA is set-up but with minor flourishes and ample living space. It was my first visit so I was anxious to check it out. While I thought it was kinda cool, it didn’t have the same magic that The Grove does. That said, I was impressed with the more and differing options that are available at The Americana. For dinner, we decided on Mexican cuisine at Frida and then spent the rest of the evening just walking around the place. One of the highlights of this new shopping center is the ability to live there … literally, your balcony would overlook the entire shopping area. Now, I’m not sure if people will really want to have an outdoor shopping mall right outside their windows but … I guess different strokes.

Last night I finished reading my first complete book on my new Kindle electronic book reader. I finished The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman as well as a new Stephen King short story called N. I gotta say, I am really loving my new e-book reader. It makes reading so much easier. I am concerned by how easy it is to just buy books and have them immediately show up in your Kindle library. It reminds me very much of the way the iPod revolutionized music buying. The neat thing about the Stephen King short story was that it came as a free immediate download if you pre-ordered his new new book of short stories Just After Sunset (due out in November). I am having no trouble getting a lotta use of my new Kindle.

No plans for this afternoon, tho I need to start cleaning my apt. ASAP. David arrives in a couple of days and I need to clear out some space to put him ;)

i love Americana, but i’m with you…i prefer the Grove much more. although, i do love that Americana has an A/X. :)

If you’re getting paid to plug Kindle (and crib their marketing messages) or if you got a free one, shouldn’t you disclose this? Not that it’s a big deal, but I always like to think you are kind without selling out.

  4. Maggie Says:

I prefer the Americana. The Grove is too cluttered or something. Idk.

If you read my original post about the Kindle then you’d know that I am not being paid to plug anything. I purchased my new device and I’m merely talking about it because I am enjoying it. Nothing that I ever talk about in the body of the blog is paid content — nothing. The only advertising are the obvious ad banners. All advertising is clearly and properly disclosed.

Americana is nice but The Grove is so much bigger and there are more corridors and places to wander, maybe because it has the Farmer’s Market attached.

sure sounds like you’re a shill for Kindle. You’re post sounded like a straight up advertorial. if you’re not getting paid by kindle you sure as hell should be. that was one hell of a plug.

  8. Laura Says:

oh for fuck’s sake people, and by “people”, I mean “katel” and “Delia”; can you not read the man’s own words??
ya know, he is allowed to share his personal opinions without being a paid advertiser or a “shill”. bleh on you both. it actually wasn’t “one hell of a plug”, just a person sharing their own pleasure at a new purchase. Kindles are everywhere; get a clue!!
