i believe that john mccain was attempting to do the right thing but it came out wrong. i dont think john mccain is personally a racist (although i do think he is a sexist) but that it was obvious that this particular lady was equating arab with ‘bad in some way’.
so yes the correct answer should have been, ‘no he is not an arab but if he were it wouldnt matter.’
I DO believe however that john mccain is not being proactive enough behind the scenes in keeping these underlying feelings of fear and hate from helping his campaign with a certain type of voter. it would be amazing if he publically denounced these types of voters saying ‘if you have hate in your heart for people who are arab or black or non white then I am not looking for your vote on that premise, and i do not want your vote on that premise’

j agree with the people who have posted about McCain’s “correction” of that lady. By replying that no, he is not an Arab but a good, decent man, he basically implies that Arabs are not good, decent men. I’m glad that McCain stood up for Obama, but he could have done so in a way that wasn’t insulting to a group of people that are constantly being stereotyped against in the West. The fact that I haven’t heard many people question McCain’s response makes me a little sad.

She’s funny. But she’s a one trick pony. All of her characters are kind of the same. Kind of like Will Ferrell… luckily it’s funny to watch or else I’d be bored. Poehler, to me, is the funniest thing on here and the show is gonna lack in the humor department when she leaves.

Amanda, Obama is NOT of Middle Eastern decent and he has never brought race EVER into the campaign. He’s from Hawaii; his grandmother is from Africa – not the Middle East. I don’t understand where you are getting any of this from. Race has been brought up by the pundits who say that it may or may not have a factor in the election.

You really needing to start getting your facts straight. This is a really important election.

Trent, you forgot to point out how McCain “corrected” the lady. She said that she didn’t trust Obama because he was Arab. McCain replied, “No Ma’m, he’s a good, decent man.”
When are people going to learn that Arab/Muslim/Middle Easterner does not equal terrorist or anti-American?
There’s all kinds of websites spreading rumors trying to prove that Obama is Arabic or Muslim. Even if he were, so what?

That being said, I liked Weekend Update, but the opening sketch with the debate was just horrible. What the hell are they thinking?

Yes, there have been many racist epithets heard at McCain/Palin rallies in the past few weeks. It’s horrible sad.
