NBC aired another Thursday night edition of Saturday Night Live last night which featured a skit on the third and final presidential debate between Senators Barack Obama and John McCain (which had a few funny moments but didn’t really deliver for me) and an extended version of Weekend Update. By far the funniest part of the whole Thursday night ep of SNL was Kristen Wiig‘s portrayal of that crazy lady at the McCain rally that was held last Friday. You may recall that a disheveled looking woman told McCain that she read that Obama was an “Arab” and he had to correct her to her face. While I found the exchange between this woman and McCain terribly upsetting, I’m glad that SNL was able to take the edge off her ignorance and find some humor in the whole situation:
Kristen Wiig is THE funniest castmember of Saturday Night Live right now (and, IMHO, has been for quite some time) so I’m glad that she was able to get in on some of the funny during this presidential campaign. She really did a great portrayal of this crazy lady in question (right down to her unkempt hair). Kristin is crazy talented, and a total sweet heart if you ever get to meet her. :-) She is eerily good at the disheveled old lady schtick.
Last night’s show was definitely not their best. The Crazy Lady part was funny but it kept going and I got really bored.
There are crazy idiots on both sides. I am a firm believer that any incumbent is just as dumb as that lady:)!!

Kristen Wiig has been an SNL favorite of mine for a long time..She plays every character perfectly! I love her ugly children skit..And I think it’s Penelope who always plays with her hair and constantly one ups everyone..She’s brilliant!

Completely agree about Kristin…she’s is so ridiculously funny. She’s my favorite cast member. And the character that constantly one-ups people is the best…especially when Lebron James was hosting. And she was just as funny in Ghost Town. Love her!

I found this skit to be hysterical! Nobody said there was anything wrong with actually BEING Arab, they just said the freaking word!!! They’re simply showcasing how ridiculously ignorant some people STILL are.

Yes, there have been many racist epithets heard at McCain/Palin rallies in the past few weeks. It’s horrible sad.

Trent, you forgot to point out how McCain “corrected” the lady. She said that she didn’t trust Obama because he was Arab. McCain replied, “No Ma’m, he’s a good, decent man.”
When are people going to learn that Arab/Muslim/Middle Easterner does not equal terrorist or anti-American?
There’s all kinds of websites spreading rumors trying to prove that Obama is Arabic or Muslim. Even if he were, so what?
That being said, I liked Weekend Update, but the opening sketch with the debate was just horrible. What the hell are they thinking?
Amanda, Obama is NOT of Middle Eastern decent and he has never brought race EVER into the campaign. He’s from Hawaii; his grandmother is from Africa – not the Middle East. I don’t understand where you are getting any of this from. Race has been brought up by the pundits who say that it may or may not have a factor in the election.
You really needing to start getting your facts straight. This is a really important election.

She’s funny. But she’s a one trick pony. All of her characters are kind of the same. Kind of like Will Ferrell… luckily it’s funny to watch or else I’d be bored. Poehler, to me, is the funniest thing on here and the show is gonna lack in the humor department when she leaves.
j agree with the people who have posted about McCain’s “correction” of that lady. By replying that no, he is not an Arab but a good, decent man, he basically implies that Arabs are not good, decent men. I’m glad that McCain stood up for Obama, but he could have done so in a way that wasn’t insulting to a group of people that are constantly being stereotyped against in the West. The fact that I haven’t heard many people question McCain’s response makes me a little sad.
