Woot! So last night was the big Project Runway Season 5 Finale episode where the 3 remaining contestants battled it out on the runway to determine who would become this season’s big winner:

Kenley, Korto and LeAnne went head-to-head-to-head in a battle royale for ultimate fashion supremacy. After the jump, find out who was in, who was out and who was named the Project Runway Season 5 Winner …
YAY! WOOT! HOLLA! and all other happy exclamations!!! Somewhere mid-season I kinda got it in my head that quiet little LeAnne might go on to win the title in this season’s Project Runway competition. For me, it was really between LeAnne and Korto and in the end that’s exactly how it turned out. LeAnne won the whole shebang, Korto came in second and Kenley, I’m not sorry to say, got the boot:

The ep itself wasn’t all that interesting. I seem to recall in seasons past that there was much more drama interjected into the eps when it came to model casting. Gone are the days of bitchy in-fighting over which designer would get which model. Tho, Kenley did try to stick her nose in and tell LeAnne which models she should be picking … I’m glad that LeAnne spoke up in her confessional to put Kenley‘s bitchiness on blast.

Seriously, Kenley really annoyed right up until the end. The look on her face when it was announced that Tim Gunn would be the guest judge was PRICELESS. You KNOW she unloaded into her undies when she got the news. Poor girl. Karma does have a funny way of gettin’ ya in the end. She should’ve been nicer to Tim from the very beginning. That is not to say that I believe that Tim Gunn used any prior experiences with any of the designers color his judgment in the end but … well, I’m sure it didn’t hurt to be on his good side. I can’t believe that Korto ended up making 2 new designs for her final runway show … and they were amazing! I really, really love Korto and I wish she could’ve won. But I do agree with the judges that LeAnne deffo deserved to win … her technical skill is superb. Korto‘s design aesthetic is just beautiful tho. She was this year’s Uli (who came in second to Jeffery Sebelia when he won PR Season 3). Both Uli and Korto have a beautiful eye for design, they know how to dress different kinds of women and they, I think, make clothes that many women would love to wear. LeAnne, like Jeffery, has a bit of an edge that put her over the top. Kenley‘s collection had great color but it didn’t feel cohesive and looked really costumey. When Nina Garcia told her that her painted dresses looked a lot like Balenciaga‘s fashion collection, I about fell on the floor (click HERE to see a comparison of Kenley‘s dress and the Balenciaga dress … thanks Mo). Kenley may be inadvertently copying other designers and I think it would behoove her to study other designers more to make sure her inadvertent copying doesn’t remain a problem. Something tells me that Heidi Klum enjoyed it a bit much when she was able to deliver the line, “Kenley, you are out!” I know I enjoyed it :)
In the end, I think the right person won, the right person came in second and the right person lost. I think this is the first season where I have been in total agreement with the judges.
One last thing, I must send props out to Bravo TV — the home of Project Runway for the past 5 seasons:

Even tho we aren’t entirely sure what will come of the lawsuit between NBC and the Weinstein Company, my gut tells me that Project Runway‘s tenure on Bravo has, indeed, come to an end. When next we see Heidi and the gang it’ll prolly be on Lifetime TV. I think Bravo did an amazing job in the first 5 seasons … and I just hope that Lifetime can carry on the tradition.

While Leanne’s a fan favorite, she’s not going to be any more commercial than any of the previous season’s winners. Who wants to wear more fabric on their hips?
And she’s dull. She’s not a promotable personality.
I thought it was interesting that the woman from last season thought Kenley’s collection looked good. She’s one of the few who actually has commercial experience.
Kenley said that she snuck into Bryant Park last year but got kicked out – which goes against her claim to Michael Kors that she never watches other designers collections. She proved herself a liar in the finale. It’s a real shame that her ego overshadows her talent.
Leanne deserved it.
Loved when Tim came out.
Did you also see that Bianca from ANTM actually walked for Korto??? Uber biotch!
Leanne’s close wer amazingly beautiful, soft, feminine, goregous, etc.
But
I really loved Korto’s too.
Such a hard decision.
There was also a cameo from Shannon from the bravo show “Make Me a Supermodel”. She was the model during casting who said she was almost 6 ft tall. I don’t think she ended up in anyone’s show, though.

PS- Korto should have won. Leanne is booooooooooo-ring. And I hate to admit it, but I kinda love Kenley and her dresses. :)
Ugh, what the hell? Now don’t get me wrong, I loved LeAnne but her collection was repetitive. I too thought that she would’ve gotten some flack for adding more fabric and weird poofing at the hips on her designs. Surely she could’ve added more color combination and variety. Sigh.
Korto is an amazing designer. I love the fact she can make any woman of any size look fabulous. Her dresses were just gorgeous. I surely still can’t imagine how she did not win over LeAnne’s boring collection.
i loved kenley, despite her attitude, i loved her. leann is fun too in her dorky, cute way. can’t wait for season 6. woot!
also if you watched Jarell’s collection on youtube….Eugenia from ANTM was his first model out on the runway….and yeah I saw all the other people…Shannon from Make me a supermodel and all the other ANTM girls
Leanne deserved it…I did enjoy Korto’s but you knew she wasn’t gonna win cause the judges don’t enjoy her “overworked” looks….though I thought her wedding dress was fantastic….but what do I know…lol….I thought Leanne’s was the most cohesive collection
Korto should have won. Leanne was boring compared to her collection. ha ha Kenly!
I would have chosen Korto in a heartbeat.
When she begins selling her clothes, I’m figuring out a way to buy that green dress. It was phenomenal.
I wanted Korto to win. I thought her line was amazing and could have fit ANY woman’s body. I love designers who get that not every woman weighs 90 pounds soaking wet. But I thought that Leanne had some beautiful clothes. I’m just thankful whiny, miserable, miss know it all, Kenley didn’t win. Based on attitude alone, she shouldn’t have made it as far as she did.
I just can’t figure out how to sit in Leanne’s petal skirts.
Do you have to carefully comb them over your butt so they line up and then lightly perch on the chair so as to not to wrinkle your butt petals?
Can you ever sit down? Do you have to walk to your event? Or do they have to put you on a handcart ala Hannibal Lector and wheel you in?
korto’s collection was beautiful, as was leanne’s, you could def. see their inspiration and personality…Kenley was just so annoying, I couldn’t love anything she sent down the runway…however, she had some cute looks and you could see her personality, too. But her inspiration? You couldn’t see that and it made a difference.
omg…the look on kenley’s face when Tim Gunn was announced as surprise judge! First thought: Karma is a b!tch, isn’t it? LOL
Was there no reunion show for this season?
LOL at Gyllenhall’s comment about LeAnne needing Shampoo- what IS with her greasy/wet hair look? Anywho, I was blown away by all of this years collections- I thought they were all beautiful, but of course, some were more beautiful then others. Kenley’s collection was pretty decent, it was bright, I loved that black and hot pink tutu dress, but she deserved to lose. Korto and Leanne were tied in my eyes- they both had BEAUTIFUL collections, each had such a huge part of both designers stitched into every inch of fabric, and I don’t think I could have decided who should win fairly- I would have had to flip a coin or something! I loved that Leanne’s designs were both whimsical and architectural, and I loved Korto’s collection for being bright, the beading was amazing, and the African theme was gorgeous! BRAVO to all the ladies! But now what are we going to do until next season? :(
I absolutely could not stand the music playing for LeAnne’s show – it was so repetitive (just like the petals were) and kind of sci-fi obnoxious sounding. Some of her collection was neat, but it was essentially the same motif over and over. I was surprised she won for that reason. I feel like she threw in that bit about sustainability at the last second and it somehow pushed her over Korto. Did she say anything earlier in the season about ecofashion or anything along those lines?
And, while I think Kenley could be a little more humble and open to constructive criticism, I feel that if she were a guy she would have gotten away with the attitude. Look back at some of the previous male contestants that made it far – like Santino, Jeffrey and even Christian (up til the last couple of shows in his season) all had pissy attitudes but in the end that didn’t seem as important as their designs. I really feel that because Kenley is a female, everyone got stuck on her attitude. And really, it is clearly a defense mechanism of some sort – there’s got to be a reason that there was very little personal info about her in that finale part 1. In the end, I loved the clothes she put on the runway – they were hip, young and fun. I hope all three finalists do well in the future – they all did great work.
I LOVED Korto’s collection, and I have to admit I was super disappointed that she didn’t win. Leanne’s collection was pretty, but it was also kind of boring and muted. I get that her aesthetic is more commercial, but Korto’s has more heart. I thought Korto’s dresses were stunning – esp. the green halter gown.
Oh well. I was also on Team Uli when Jefferey won Season 3. I guess I’m good at picking almost winners…
Oh, and Kenley was a chode up to the bitter end. Karma’s a bitch.
“Kenley was a chode” = LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!
