Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow

October 19th, 2008

Yesterday evening, David and I made our way to the Mondrian Hotel on the Sunset Strip for a nice romantical dinner at the Asia de Cuba restaurant and while I thought we had a nice night out together, I was reminded why I hate going to fancy schmancy restaurants around town. While I would say that the food was good, I would also contend that it was way over-priced, especially for what you get. I, personally, am more a fan of the $5 Aussie Chayze Froys at Outback than a $20+ appetizer at a hotel restaurant. I mean, it’s deffo a great place for folks who like to schmooze but I think I’d rather frequent a less pretentious establishment. That being said, David and I are meeting up with members of Le GangTM for a bite to eat at Ketchup later on tonight which offers 50% off their menu on Sundays ;)

David, sadly, flies back to NYC tonight and it looks like we won’t be able to see one another until Thanksgiving. We both have to be in our respective States to vote on November 4th and then I have a week-long trip in Detroit after. Needless to say, we’re gonna do our best to enjoy what little time we have left today.

    Hey Trent,

That’s such a tough stretch to be apart! I’ll be sending all good wishes to both of you. Hope you’re hanging in there. :)

oh man you are going to Ketchup? The setting for the infamous Speidi/Lauren/Jason scene!

So sorry about David leaving! I gotta support my fellow LDR brethren (my boyfriend lives in Ohio and I in NY). I feel your pain and you’ve got all my support! <3

Can I just tell you that the dedication that you are David have to each other is remarkable? Doing long distance is NOT easy and you two seem to make it work so well. I adore hearing about your outings together and wish you both lots of strength during your time apart. Parting is such sweet sorrow, for reuniting is so much fun! :)

^^ totally agree, Dee. Trent, you and David seem like an adorable couple!

but im still hung up on the fact that Aussie cheese fries are not Australian food in the slightest, haha.

We have a Mondrian here in Scottsdale too. I think the drinks, the food and the whole scene is way over rated. All it takes is to say something is trendy and then the “cool” crowd will flock to it no matter what the cost. Not a fan.

Ditto for me on preferring Chayz Froiz (sorry if I misspelled) as opposed to expensive appetizer!

You live in one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world. Next time, when you’re bidding your love good bye, do it over fabulous, hole in the wall ghetto cuisine. You know you’ve scored a memorable meal when a) it’s served on styrofoam and b) it makes you want to slap your mother.

Chayz Froiz indeed. Seems to me you could rock some serious Korean Bi Bim Bap and it’s accompanying Pan Chans.

Any Chef worth his salt will tell you; the best food is the simplest, and I work for what constitutes rock stars in MSP, and they all know EXACTLY where to get the best ghetto-fabulous fried chicken.
