OJ Simpson Found Guilty

On 12 counts of armed robbery, faces life in prison
October 4th, 2008

13 years TO THE DAY that OJ Simpson was found not guilty of the murders of ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ronald Goldman back on October 3, 1995, a jury in Las Vegas, NV found Simpson guilty on 12 counts of armed robbery late last night stemming from a botched sports memorabilia heist in late 2007. Simpson’s alleged conspirator in the robbery attempt, Clarence “C.J.” Stewart, was also found guilty on all charges … the men now face life imprisonment for these crimes. OJ Simpson, meet karma:

Former gridiron great O.J. Simpson was found guilty Friday of all 12 counts in the armed robbery of two sports memorabilia dealers at a Las Vegas, Nevada, casino hotel last year. Simpson, 61, and his co-defendant Clarence “C.J.” Stewart, 54, were charged with a dozen offenses stemming from the sports memorabilia heist. Stewart was found guilty of the same charges as Simpson. Simpson sat quietly and showed little emotion at the defense table as courtroom clerk Sandra Jeter read the verdicts. After the verdicts were read, deputies immediately handcuffed Simpson and led him out of the courtroom. Simpson and Stewart were charged with 12 counts, including conspiracy to commit a crime, robbery, assault and kidnapping with a deadly weapon … Simpson and Stewart could spend the rest of their lives in prison for these convictions. Clark County District Judge Jackie Glass set sentencing for December 5 … The jury of nine men and three women, none of them African-American, reached its verdict after 13 hours of deliberations Friday. Jurors heard from 22 witnesses over 12 days of testimony. Chief among the witnesses were seven of the nine people inside Room 1203 of the Palace Station Hotel and Casino for the September 13, 2007, confrontation … Prosecutors alleged that the men, led by Simpson, burst into the room, flashed a gun and threatened memorabilia dealers Bruce Fromong and Al Beardsley. The men then filled two pillowcases with Simpson trinkets, signed Pete Rose baseballs and Joe Montana lithographs. Simpson’s defense attorneys maintained their client was merely trying to retrieve personal photographs and other mementos that belonged to him. Neither Simpson nor Stewart testified during the trial. Instead, their attorneys savaged the motives of the other witnesses. Galanter said Simpson was a target of investigators from the very beginning. The case “has taken on a life of its own because of Mr. Simpson’s involvement,” he added. “Every cooperator, every person who had a gun, every person who had an ulterior motive, every person who signed a book deal, every person who got paid money, the police, the district attorney’s office is only interested in one thing: Mr. Simpson,” Galanter said … The most compelling evidence for all sides came from the audiotapes. For the prosecution, conversations taped by collectibles middleman Thomas Riccio took jurors from the poolside planning to the profanity-laced hotel room confrontation.

I’m not even going to go into my personal beliefs about OJ Simpson. I absolutely remember his trial back in 1995 and his horribly smug attitude afterward. I kinda had a suspicion that the man would end up getting into trouble again … and here he is, a man convicted on 12 counts of armed robbery, facing life in prison. Things tend to work out the way they’re supposed to … I really believe that. Whether or not Simpson gets sentenced to a life behind bars come December 5, I believe he will finally be punished according to his crimes … and it’s long overdue.

Whether or not he commited the murders doesn’t matter now, what matters is the man thought because he had all the high priced lawyers that he would get off again. This is one of those wonderful moments when karma comes to bite someone on the ass who SO deserves it.

  2. Lexie Says:

I agree with you. Finally, justice is served.

  3. Dana Says:

i’m sorry I have to say this: he acted one way or another after his acquittal, but the families on both sides have been money hungry as well. the sister has up and slandered the other family for the sake of money, the father put Oj’s book on hold then turned around and tried to release the book for the money alone and wasn’t even putting it towards the millions Oj owed them, and were for a good while trying to rip his kids away and use them as pawns in a media circus. I don’t know who shielded them but they were going through with the death of their mother and all that crap later on.

I really worry about the kids, for what it’s worth OJ is the only other parent they have and now he’s going to jail. who’s going to help with those kids: the families of the victims that have proven that all they want is money, not justice?? Yeah Oj’s a freaking IDIOT for this latest series of events, but those kids are going to suffer A LOT in the end.

  4. ChiMey Says:

took long enough. They’re gonna beat the shit out of him in prison which he deserves.

  5. Kate Says:

I don’t care how they got him, just that they finally got him! Rot in Hell, OJ. You deserve it!

  6. julie Says:

Kate, people like you are the embodiment of corrupt justice. There was no way OJ could get a fair trial this time around, because everybody just wanted to see him finally convicted for SOMETHING. Whether or not he killed Nicole and Ron, whether or not he was guilty this time around, his allegedly smug ass was bound to end up in prison, justice be damned.

  7. joce Says:

Exactly Julie. OJ is being convicted of a 13 year old crime which was never 100% proved to be his doing. You are innocent until proven guilty in this fine country. Remember that.

These are some hateful comments coming from you people, and that gives us all a bad name.

Life in prison for trying to be a tough thug? I think Las Vegas tax dollars should go to something a little more important….

OJ needs psychological help. He seems to have quite a few personality disorders.

Also…plea deals from witnesses who are just trying not to go to jail…and have shady characters to begin with…that equals an even more unfair trial.

There should have been no jury because people are going to be biased no matter what kind of screening they do.

JUSTICE WAS NOT SERVED. You should look up the definition.

  8. cheryl Says:

Julie and Joce, you’re both idiots.

  9. jane doe Says:

You are innocent until proven guilty in this fine country

Not if you’re the Duke Lacrosse team. Look that up. Why do some people think that because a black man got away with 2 murders 13 years ago he should get away with comitting crime the rest of his life. Ever notice how noone ever refers to him as entitled and priveledged? Hmm.

  10. Krissy Says:

O.J. butchered two people. Period. He got off, and acted like a jackass for the rest of his blessed life instead of being GRATEFUL like any sane person would do.

It makes me sick when people try to claim that Ron & Nicole’s family were money-hungry. Do they look poor to anyone?!? That was the ONLY way they had left to try to hurt that smug bastard like he hurt them!!! And I’d bet it was more about striving to make him SEE and ADMIT what he did than revenge! Some kind of validation & closure! They didn’t want the goddamn money over the lives of their loved ones… you best believe THAT.

If you actually followed the Vegas events, you know he was guilty of this one too. Give me a break. Waa-waa poor O.J. can’t get a fair trial- LOOK AT THE EVIDENCE.

Both times, that waste of DNA acted like the devil-incarnate… and now he is FINALLY going to have to endure a consequence. I pray he is not harmed in prison. I think the loss of his beloved golf is punishment enough.

  11. Megan Says:

If anyone still think OJ is guilty, your crazy. Ever heard of the book “If i did it?’ or something like that. Go read it. He murdered two people and got away with it. Hes getting what he deserves. And who says he didn’t get a fair trial? Do you know all the evidence? Maybe the jury really thought with all the evidence he was guilty.

  12. julie Says:

Megan, first master English, then get back to me on legal policy.

  13. jade Says:

You know whats funny is that if these same events would have happened to anyone who is convicting him based on the past, all those people would be screaming they weren’t given a fair trail. Yet so long as your not in “the shoes” then karma’s a bitch right? the past trial is irrelevant to this one. Judge not lest ye be judge.

  14. Jilly Says:

I hope this B*tch get’s life in prison. No nice hollywood treatment either.
It maybe irrelevent to you jade, but tell that to the victim’s family who had their loved one slaughtered and got no justice.

  15. Michelle Says:

What his defenders seem to be forgetting is the he was found guilty in the civil suit brought by the families of the victims. The criminal trial was a circus, and I for one was not surprised by his acquittal. But he was found to be RESPONSIBLE for the murders in the civil trial. I am the least religious/spiritual person you can find, but I’ll be darned if this isn’t karma, if this isn’t the universe saying “No, you will not get away with everything”.

  16. julie Says:

Jilly, etc., what you don’t seem to understand is that this year, OJ was not on trial for murder. Yes, he probably did kill Ron and Nicole, but he was not convicted during that trial. It is illegal and against all principles of justice in the United States to use a subsequent, unrelated trial to try a person for a previous, already-dealt-with offense. I’m sorry that most people think he got away with murder, and of course I’m sorry for the victims’ families. However, that does not give our legal system the right to put a defendant, however smug or probably guilty, in the position of double jeopardy. Some of you really need to crack a criminal law book before you start spouting off, because you look like idiots.

  17. bob j. Says:

    ONLY ONE THING TO SAY—-GOTCHA

  18. jane doe Says:

Jade you say- Judge not lest ye be judge.

If we applied that to slavery, segregation and racism we would still be living like 1750’s. If someone judges the KKK or the Jasper TX 3 do you tell them not to be sooo judgemental? The last I heard Don Imus and Michael Richards didn’t commit any crimes…. yet look at all those who have judged and demonized them.

  19. Jilly Says:

julie, the purpose of having a law is to serve the people and bring justice to the deserved. The Law serves US.
If the justice system haven’t failed us the first time around, there would’ve been no trial yesturday because his murderous a** would’ve been in jail already and there wouldn’t be so much anger now from all over the country.
Point is, he should’ve been convicted then, and if some people think it’s unfair/unjust to convict him now, where were you and your outrage when he was originally charged “not guilty”?

  20. julie Says:

I was in Pennsylvania. In high school. Does it matter? Then later I was in law school, where I learned that you shouldn’t be able to contrive a new criminal trial if the first one doesn’t work. Read some books, and call me when you learn the difference between “fair” and “just.”

  21. jane doe Says:

later I was in law school, where I learned that you shouldn’t be able to contrive a new criminal trial if the first one doesn’t work.

Do you mean how the cops in the Rodney King case were retried on a federal level to appease the mob? OJ wasn’t tried twice. HE COMMITTED ANOTHER CRIME. What part of that can you not comprehend? Did you learn in law school that if a black man gets away with murder it means a free pass for every crime he commits for the rest of his life?? You sure went to an odd law school- must have been run by Al Sharpton.

  22. Robert Says:

Hey doesnt everyone know blacks are always innocent. And all whites are racist, that is if you dont agree with them. Im sure glad Chinese americans, japanese and mexicans dont whine, cry and look for handouts like blacks……….then the country really would be broke…..

  23. julie Says:

Racist Jane Doe, obviously he committed another crime. I’m saying that it’s senseless and wrong for people to be all “yay, the murderer gets what he deserves” when this trial was not about murder. It’s not a free pass, and it’s certainly not about being black. (Can we please move past the race thing already?) It’s about justice being even-handed and cool-headed, as it should be. As for this second crime, it smells like a setup to me. Of course, OJ was a tool and fell for it, but clearly it was a setup nonetheless. And this law school I went to has the highest bar passing rate in the state, Dean Al Sharpton notwithstanding. Would you care to throw any other black men’s names or other racist references in the mix while you’re at it?

  24. julie Says:

PS – Robert, that was pretty much awesome.

  25. jade Says:

Jane Doe, I’ve had a loved one brutally murdered. What I can tell you is that no matter how you put it even jail time isn’t enough to bring back a loved one. All I stated was this trail isn’t about the murders and if you wish to discuss it intelligently you should discuss it based on the premises of THIS trial. He had a criminal and a civil trial, for whatever reason in the criminal trial he was acquitted, and the families won a monetary settlement in the civil trial . The jury then could have chosen a different verdict, it’s happened in our system before. The murders are now between OJ, his god, the Brown and Goldman families and not the public therefore you get the judge not lest ye be judge comment. This case is about armed robbery, try discussing that.

  26. Jilly Says:

I’m sorry to point this out but for a self-proclaimed law student you sure seem to lack logic, decency and commen sense.. or is that a pre-requisite these days…
I honestly don’t believe you know the first thing about “fairness” or “justice”. The law, although is helpful to maintain relative peace in our lives, is not/will never be perfect.
You probably believe that by following the books, you’re doing justice for all but that’s not always the case. OJ was acquitted why? it wasn’t that there were lacking evidence, but that it turned into a media circus and became a racial issue. Mark Furman may be partially to blame, but in reality, the whole of america and political correctness was to blame for the injustice in the verdict.
I can not understand how anyone can have a problem with a monster like OJ FINALLY getting his due.
It might not be fair on a legal standpoint just observing this case in particular, but he showed no mercy to his victims and I applaud the jury and the judge for this long due payback..although I’m sure the victim’s family will still be haunted by the atrocity commited by him.
I hope if you truly are a student of law and pursue this career, you’ll learn to utilize commen sense and learn to understand the victim’s sufferings before trying to become the next shameless and heartless POS Cochran.

[...] Original post by It’s Trent, Bitch! [...]

  28. julie Says:

Ah yes, that vaunted concept “commen sense.” You still don’t get the distinction between legal matters and emotion. I can’t help you not be stupid, so I’m going to stop trying. [And for the record, I WENT to law school; I am not currently a law student. Sorry your reading comprehension sucks as much as your sentence structure.]

  29. Jilly Says:

I suppose that was the best you could do —an emotional rant.
On a side note, noone takes online communications very seriously (as you do apparently) so even if you’ve said ” I’m currently practicing law ” …which you didn’t—Noone cares enough to believe you or even pay close attention to your stats. No need to thank me, I hate to see you in the dark for the next few yrs, so consider it a treat.

Just a word of advice, take it or leave it.
Your “higher than thou” attitude won’t take you very far. By being condescending, you only prove to others how much you lack, and not what you have to offer.

  30. lou Says:

wow. why do people feel that it’s necessary to start throwing racist comments in the mix? as a means to shut things down? really ignorant. and this Law School Julie person is calling the racist Jane Doe racist, then agreeing with Robert on his racist comments? wtf? i’m confused. i feel like murdering this “discussion”.

  31. Kathleen Says:

Hooray, justice is FINALLY served! Of course, he had to be tried OUT of Los Angeles, CA for a FAIR trial.

  32. kimba Says:

I am personally thrilled – as many are – that OJ is going to finally do prison time. That doesn’t mean this trial was a farce that was used to just put him in prison and it doesn’t mean the jury didn’t do as instructed and look at the facts. The facts were pretty damning – they have him on tape saying to not let anyone leave. That’s kidnapping. No one reasonable would believe he didn’t know about the guns – that’s armed robbery and assault. The jury did what they were supposed to do – decide whether he committed these crimes. It’s ridiculous to say they convicted him because of the murders he committed. OJ thought he could get away with anything, behave any way he liked, do whatever he wanted. His arrogance is what did him in. He’s a dangerous psychotic murderer and we’re all better off without him being free.
Btw, I find it amusing that Julie never says she became a lawyer – no doubt she either didn’t finish law school or couldn’t pass the bar.

  33. beth Says:

For those who think he didnt kill her, then who did with what motive? exactly, Karma rules!

  34. Scary Mary Says:

I think Julie should represent Casey Anthony. Mentally, they both seem to be on the same page.

    Illusions of grandeur anyone?

  35. Obama Kinda Sorta Sucks Says:

Regardless of what people think about him they need to learn that he is a father and his children have no other parent…it’s not all about revenge…he isn’t the only one that is going to suffer from this verdict…

  36. Obama does suck Says:

The children are screwed either way. Who’s to say for sure what’s best for them at this point but I don’t think OJ was much of a dad anyhow if he was busy dabbing in illegal matters. Never once saw him with the kids anyway. Even so, I’m not sure what their feelings are towards him, or what their beliefs are concerning his involvement with the murder. Depending on what they believe, they may very well want justice for their mother.

  37. kimba Says:

And the kids are grown now anyways – they aren’t children.

  38. Joanne Says:

The guy snuffed out two lives – he needs to pay and this (unfortunately) is the only way. It’s a shame that because of the nature of this conviction, he probably won’t be placed with other psycho killers … and he will be released.

  39. christine Says:

i totes agree “obama does suck.” so are we not supposed to convict criminals just b/c they have only 1 parent? kids will get taken care of by someone. and they really aren’t kids anymore either. also, i do agree that obama does suck! haha

  40. John Says:

Does Anybody watch, American Justice, Or Cold Case Files on TV? Detectives have found Murderers that have committed crimes before DNA testing was available. Even though the crime scene was so badly handled back in 1994.
The chances of anyone else but Simpson committing the crime. Is greater than the number of people on this earth. Fact! If Simpson is capable of nearly decapitating the Mother of His Children while They slept just an earshot away. He would not blink at the the opportunity to take with armed force. That which does not belong to Him technically. He should have stopped when He was ahead. End of story!

  41. John Says:

Oh! You have a son, and a daughter! That are not minors anymore. Why didn’t You say so. How about probation, and a fine. I think, Mark Furman planned the whole thing. Hey! Robert. Thanks for having a pair.
