This is why Detroit’s Auto makers need a bailout:
-If we don’t bail them out and GM/Ford go down, that will leave the US without the ability to participate in the potentially profitable auto industry in a few years when green transportation is a reality. Should Japan and South Korea really define what it is to be American in this new green world?
-We ALL in America are responsible for Detroit’s short-sightedness over the past 10 years or so BY IGNORING THE WARNING SIGNS and buying our precious SUV’s and trucks in abundance.
-Finally, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, Detroit’s auto workers have been the backbone of the American economic system and the American Dream since the 1920′s. If the Big Three go down, what happens to the MILLIONS of workers depending on these companies for their pensions, their health care, and their pensions? America has an employer-based pension system, and to let these hard-working, honorable Americans take the fall for the companies’ CEO’s mistakes is not only wrong but unpatriotic.
I meant to say pensions, health care, and JOBS. Michigan is really hurting, man. Let me tell you!!!
Love to D-Town!!!
Not sure what it has to do with ‘Les News,’ but, Brooke you’re right. I work at Ford right here in Dearborn, MI. I feel the burn. It ain’t pretty. And there are Ford, GM and Chrysler plants and offices all over the country, not just D-Town … lots of people’s jobs are at stake. Dire straights, man …
