I Came, I ‘Saw’, I Was Minorly Entertained
The TV Guide

Last night I met up with Jordan, Darion and D’s friend Peter for a fun dinner at Velvet Margarita before we made our way to the ArcLight in Hollywood, CA to see SAW V. We got to the theater a wee bit early and while perusing the items in the ArcLight gift shop, I came upon a bunch of really fun little cheapie Halloween masks … which we all wore in the movie theater. Oooh scary:

As for the movie … well, I’ve seen scarier. Actually, I’ve seen scarier SAW movies … but this one was kinda OK. I think they’ve really run the gamut tho and the franchise needs to end. SAW VI would be a bad idea, I think. The same slash and burn mentality is employed in this flick and even tho certain people may have died in previous installments of the SAW movie franchise, they are featured very heavily in this latest film by way of flashback scenes. The plot is nonexistent … in fact, the victims are totally incidental this time around. Usually, you sympathize with the victims who fight for their lives … in this flick, they’re just shoved into the storyline and are picked off one at a time without much feeling at all. As I said, I thought the movie was a’ight but mebbe it was because the batch of victims this time around featured Julie Benz (ex-Buffy and Angel, current Dexter), Megan Good (who is just hot) and the guy who plays Chloe O’Brien‘s husband on 24. As much as I hope they stay away from SAW VI, I think it’s coming … a key character was given a box, the contents of which were not made known to the audience. It reeks of a new movie set-up. I think I’ll take a pass. I didn’t loathe this film (it was way better than Max Payne) but I think I’m done with the SAW movies.

Here is a fun pic that the boys and I snapped after the show:

I really think that we were the scariest things in that movie theater … but we had fun. I think SAW fans might like the movie so … there you have it.

No plans for today. I might be takin’ it easy.

I totally agree with you! I thought it sucked. It was pointless except for the fact that they want a Saw VI and this was the way to do it. It was not even about the people getting out of the crazy stuff that happens to them. All the flashback stuff was so unnecessary! I was a little pissed to find out all that about the Cop. I mean come on. To me it takes away from the first 4!! I am not looking forward to 6. Jigsaw is dead and so should the Saw franchise!

  5. Stephanie says:

They’ve said from the beginning (well, they’ve said from when they decided to make a second one) that the plan was to make six.

  6. La Princesa says:

I’ve never seen any of them. I must look for reviews and see what the fuss is…

of course it wasnt scary…. Saw isnt really ment to be scary. atleast not to me..its more of a mind game kinda movie

  8. Corey says:

There is definitely another Saw in the works. There is a new reality TV show called “Scream Queens” on Monday nights that has women competing for a role in Saw VI… which means it will most likely suck ;)

I haven’t seen Saw yet, but I’m looking forward to it ! Trent, you said that SAW fans may like it sooooo maybe I will, hopefully. :) All the SAW movies have been interesting. A big twist in some of them.

I love them masks, by the way.

this one wasn’t supposed to be more gory or anything along those lines. And it DEFIANTLY had a plot. This was an informative Saw, it showed the background behind the killings previously, it showed how it took so long for the killings to “end”. Of course they had to just throw in the pointless killing of those 5 people because then it wouldn’t be Saw… it would be “the story behind Saw”
Go see it again and think of it that way.

I’m a huge Saw fan… but I was a little disappointed with this one. I kept waiting for the twisted ending that never came… it just didn’t blow my mind like the others have. I love how they revisited the earlier movies though. Overall I thought it was pretty good… just not AS good as the others.
I thought there was supposed to be 7 movies altogether…

i actually really liked it. Its still gory, but its definitely more of a mind game movie. And i read that the writers actually wrote the 5th and 6th movies as one script so it’d flow better, so you gotta see the 6th to see the twists that’ll probably be in it.

Theres a behinds the scene video on bloody-distgusting … that shows what was in the box to Jill. Its a … load of mugshots. it shows her hanging up the pics on the wall of a hallway. then it shows her telling hoffman “i know who you are”.

  14. Alex says:

I liked it. I think Saw movies just need to seen as one giant movie. Each one just explains something that we’ve been wondering from the previous movie. In this case we wonder what was in that box. Which im guessing we’ll know in Saw 6. Its good if you are a Saw fan, not so good if you are not.
