Former Detroit Mayor Kilpatrick Gets Sent To Jail
Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was removed from his office in early September after he plead guilty to two criminal charges and Ken Cockrel, Jr. has already been sworn in as the new Mayor of Detroit … but the day has come for Mr. Kilpatrick to start paying for his crimes. Calling the man “arrogant and defiant” a Wayne County judge sentenced Kilpatrick to serve 4 months in jail without any hope of early release under any circumstances. Here is a pic of Mr. Arrogant and Defiant smiling away in court right before he was dragged away to his jail cell and the cell where he will be living for the next 4 months:

Calling him “arrogant and defiant,” a Wayne County Circuit Judge on Tuesday sentenced former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to four months in jail with no early release under the terms of a plea deal. Kilpatrick pleaded guilty last month to two felony obstruction of justice charges stemming from his efforts to cover up an extramarital affair. He also pleaded no contest to charges of assaulting a police officer attempting to serve a subpoena on a Kilpatrick friend in that case. Kilpatrick resigned from office last month after pleading guilty to charges resulting from a sex scandal. He was accused of blocking a criminal investigation into his office and firing a police deputy to cover up an extramarital affair and other possible illicit activities. After the deputy, Gary Brown, lost his job, a mayoral bodyguard, Officer Harold Nelthrope, left his job voluntarily when the atmosphere became too tense, said his attorney in the whistle-blower suit trial. Walt Harris, another former mayoral bodyguard, filed his own whistle-blower suit, contending he was punished for supporting Nelthrope’s reports of wrongdoing by Kilpatrick and his bodyguards. The city of Detroit paid $8.4 million to settle the lawsuits, but legal fees have pushed that figure to at least $9 million. Prompted by the judge to recount his wrongdoing last month, Kilpatrick admitted, “I lied under oath in the case of Gary Brown and Harold Nelthrope versus the city of Detroit. … I did so with the intent to mislead the court and the jury and to impede and obstruct the fair administration of justice.” Kilpatrick had faced eight felony counts. As part of a plea agreement, six counts related to misconduct in office were dropped, and a perjury count was changed to a second obstruction of justice charge. In a separate case against Kilpatrick, Circuit Court Judge David Groner accepted a no-contest plea on an assault charge brought against the mayor in July after he allegedly shoved a police officer trying to serve a subpoena on a friend of Kilpatrick’s who was a potential witness in his perjury case.
The court recently released the text messages that got Kwame in trubs in the first place. Sometimes graphic and oftentimes idiotic, the text messages can be read HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE. The City of Detroit and, indeed, humanity will be well served by having Kwame Kilpatrick locked away behind bars. Good riddance.
UPDATE: The Detroit Free Press has just posted Kwame Kilpatrick’s newest mugshot (to add to his other mugshot) that was snapped right before he was thrown into his jail cell:

Dear Kwame,
Please rot.
Signed,
The City of Detroit, all Detroiters everywhere and, indeed, The World

Did you see him during the judge’s speech and subsequent sentencing??!! Rolling his eyes and making faces!
OH, and the family’s reaction when there was something about them not being able to touch the 7 different “funds” – rumored to have close to 7 million … so his Million dollar fine is just spare change!!

I’M FROM THE “D” AND I’D BE SMILING TO IF I COULD KEEP 6 MILLION OF MY 7 MILLION AND ONLY DO 4 MONTHS. I WOULD DO YEARS IF I KNEW WHEN I GOT OUT THAT 6 MILLION WAS WAITING FOR ME..LOL

Is that his jail cell? It looks pretty luxurious for a convicted felon.

I wish they hadn;t offered him a plea deal so he could rot in there for a longer time :D

I hope 4 months will give him time to think….because right now, he doesn’t seem to “get it” at all. He still thinks he’s done nothing wrong. And his dad said in a sound bite that poor Kwame’s been “railroaded” by the justice system….what a bunch of thugs! Hope the “D” can heal.

As a former Detroiter, all I can say is “sad, sad, sad.” Kwame ruined my city. I had such high hopes for him and really thought he was doing some good things for the city. How wrong I was.

as someone who is forced to pay Detroit city taxes (I work there) but is not allowed to vote (I don’t live there) – let’s make sure we remind everyone of this debacle in five years, when Kwame mounts his reelection campaign. Just say no!!!!!
