First Look: Hilary Duff, ‘Reach Out’
Earlier today we got to see new music videos from Xtina Aguilera (boo!) and Mariah Carey (yay!) and now we add Hilary Duff to the list. Hil D. is, unbelievably, releasing a Greatest Hits compilation titled The Best of Hilary Duff and has released the new song Reach Out (which samples Depeche Mode’s Personal Jesus) to promote it. I still, for the life of me, cannot understand why Hilary is releasing a new compilation of old songs when she already released a compilation of old songs titled Most Wanted just two albums ago … but I digress. Here are a few screencaps from Hilary’s new video:

HMMM. I don’t particularly care for the song very much. Granted, I’m not a big fan of Personal Jesus either (but DM fans take heart, I love pretty much everything else they’ve released … Violator is one of my fave albums ever and I love every song on it … well, except for the one song in question ;) The vid, I’m afraid, isn’t much better. Are any of y’all feelin’ it?

Hey,
She took what WAS a good song and ruined it… Plus, does anyone else agree that she is trying to channel her inner Madonna/Cyndi Lauper and doing a horrible job? … This video was weak at best… & She hasn’t even been around long enough to release a greatest hits, basically she looks like a fool on multiple levels… but hey, she makes more money than me… so what gives? :)

OMG… I wish I’d never watched or heard that. I have to agree with TBoz, she took an awesome song and turned it into a slutty, terrible terrible remix. Ugh and the video is pretty bad as well. I don’t even see how she’s still making music. Sorry, I’m not normally a hater, but she’s just ruined one of my all-time favorite songs! It’s blasphemy!

I am not a huge fan of the song or Hilary Duff for that matter but as far as the record goes..she only released a 2nd greatest hits to get out of her record contract. She was obligated by the labe to release another album to fulfill her contract so they could part ways. So if order to get out sooner she just release this album rather than taking several months to record new material. So there you have it….

Video is too posey and she is coming across as slutty. I get that she’s growing up but she still has young fans – my brother and sister are fans but they’re only 8 and 9 years old! How would I explain why she has this guy’s thumb in her mouth?!
As for the song….I guess it’s okay but I wouldn’t buy it.

I think she did a great job with the Video, the song’s alright i guess…i DISLIKE the original version, this one’s ok…could be better if it had a better hook…like MORE LYRICS. but it’s cool, Hil’s all grown up and looking great, i’m loving her “not a girl, not yet a woman” Look she’s sporting, She’s like so HOT,and i think this video’s better than Xtina’s, and just as Good as Mariah’s, but i def like this song more than Mimi’s….

Trent, the reason why she is releasing a Greatest Hits album again is because she has one record left on her contract with her record company… she didn’t want to record a new album with the record company that she despises because she wants OUT.

Are most of you retarded? This song is hot and the video is too. How can you say she looks slutty? Almost all of the top female “artists” have appeared nude or practically nude in their videos as of late. Hilary looks smokin’ hot in this clip and the style of the video looks like a lot of Marc Jacobs adds. In conslusion: Song=Hot

I really really loved this song when I first heard it. The video is not her best…a little more risque than usual, but she needed to make some steps in that direction. Even though this video is really different, it’s unique and kinda cool! Especially her clothes!
And I agree with Wendell- it reminds me of Mark Jacobs ads. Very hot.

The main reason for Greatest Hits and Remix albums are easy solutions to get out of a record contract. Chances are her label wants to keep her image a certain way and is very restricting (since she’s still signed to Disney’s imprint, Hollywood Records) and wants to get out of it fast so she can really make the record she wants to on a label that treats her like an adult. It makes perfect sense not to waste good material for a record company that doesn’t give you artistic freedom. Good for her.

I think she looks HOT in the video, the song is nothing exciting, but the heavy beat will carry it to the clubs. She could’ve looked better if she wasn’t awkwardly hugging a naked man and just singing over his shoulder…but still hot. The thumb in the mouth parts were rather sexual, a little bit much, but then it occurred to me that if her Ex watched this vid, he’d realize what he’s missing out on ;)

I am disgusted. Anyone who has ever been to any of the beyond-words DM concerts (I am at 7 and counting) would know that a highlight is all arms going up on the “reach up and touch faith” part of Personal Jesus, a true high point of their concert (whether you dig the song or not) and the fact that she is soooooooooooo unoriginal as to use lyrics from one of the best bands in the past 25 years…pathetic! No one is Depeche Mode, but DM…sampled or not. Get a life, Hilary.

Well she looks beautiful but otherwise, it’s not a very good song or video. I agree with you Trent, Violator is such an amazing album and Personal Jesus is the weakest song on it. I was always surprised that Halo wasn’t a single. That album came out during one of the best years of my life so I will always have fond memories associated with it.
My personal favorite will always be Black Celebration though. Perfect album all the way through – never get tired of it. Depeche Mode put on the best shows ever, I wish they would come around again. Fabulous band – second only to The Smiths for me!

Personally I like the song better than the original. She’s allowed to grow up, she IS 21 after all. The younger people have Miley now, and even Hilary is classier than she is…especially at 21 whereas Miley is just 16 and has been seen doing raunchier things like showing her bra and licking her lips while Mr. Gaston walked the runway….

As far as the ’sluttier’ thing….. She is a woman… She is fully clothed… She is doing dance moves less raunchy and provocative than you’d see at any teenage party, so where exactly is the problem? She’s releasing another greatest hits album because she is required under her contract with Hollywood Records to release a number of albums. Once she does this, she can get out of her contract with them with as little effort as possible.

I just think that if your gonna come out into hollywood with a good girl image, stick to it. If you come out to hollywood w/ a bad girl image, stick to it. Dont go back and forth.
