Do Not Bother Kristin Davis While She Is Shopping

I'm talking to you, Boy Scouts of America
October 6th, 2008

Sex and the City star Kristin Davis was approached by a entrepreneurial member of the Boy Scouts of America, who was trying to sell her some popcorn to help him raise money for his organization, as she left a grocery store in Brentwood, CA. Despite the lad’s rosy cheeked disposition and polite sales pitch, Kristin decided to take a pass and the young scout was left brutally rebuffed:

It would be terribly unfair (altho, really kinda funny) to imply that Kirstin Davis is a heartless, cold-hearted ice queen for denying this innocent young boy so let’s just assume that she either A.) is not a popcorn fan, B.) was in a hurry and couldn’t tarry or C.) has a strict policy against funding the Boy Scouts when all of her extra money goes to the Girl Scouts and their delicious cookies. Let this be a lesson to folks lookin’ to raise funds for non-profit organizations … cookies equal $$$, popcorn equals :(

Out of all the SATC gals, I would think KD would be the sweetest. You can’t really tell a lot in those 2 pictures. The second pic looks like she turned her head. Maybe she is smiling at another Boy Scout? Either way, she’s got plenty of cash! Donate!

  2. Melissa Says:

Or, D) Had her hands tied and didn’t feel compelled enough to put down her shopping bags for a box of cookies.

  3. Winona Says:

I support the Girl Scouts, but on principle alone, I do not support the Boy Scouts. I won’t tell this to the kids’ faces, but I usually tell the parents of the kids hawking Christmas wreaths at work, and they actually understand and respect my decision!

  4. Posh Says:

I don’t think you can really judge her character by whether or not she buys popcorn. I think we’ve all turned down a cute girl/boy scout at one point or another; at least she didn’t just buy twenty boxes to make herself look like an angel.

  5. Hannah Says:

Perhaps she just doesn’t enjoy funding homophobic organizations? I know I did the same thing to the Boy Scouts at my grocery store over the weekend.

  6. Kai Says:

I agree with Winona and Hannah. Perhaps she is showing her support of her many gay fans by blatantly ignoring homophobic organizations? When Girl Scout Cookie season (drool) rolls around again, I’m sure we’ll see her with a wagon full of cookies. Oh wait, that’ll be me.

  7. Trish Says:

I echo what Hannah, Kai, and Winona have said. I am more than happy to buy super delicious Girl Scout cookies but I will not give a penny to the Boy Scouts since they openly discriminate against homosexuals and teach the boys enrolled to be homophobes by their actions. Shame on the Boy Scouts!

  8. julie Says:

From the pictures, it doesn’t appear that she was rude to the kid. At least she can manage to smile even when people are photographing her and asking for money, unlike some celebrities whose names are Jessica Alba.

  9. Margaret Says:

That was some expensive popcorn. A small tin was $17.00. I was hit up for one outside Walmart by the Boy Scouts. I did buy it:) but only because I knew the family of the boy scout selling it.

  10. G in PA Says:

AMEN to not supporting the boy scouts. I do feel bad when those cute little kids ask me at the supermarket but I just CAN”T do it.

  11. DESI Says:

Maybe she only had a credit card, I hardly ever have cash on me.

  12. Kimi Says:

Since when did we start hating on kiddie organizations, like are you guys for real?

  13. k Says:

    yeah boy scouts are sketchy

  14. camille Says:

LOL do you think that boy even knew who she was?
That’s really funny. Shes a busy bee though. =]

  15. Julie Says:

It’s sad really that the Boy Scouts are what they are now. They weren’t always like that. It’s especially sad that they have chosen such an exclusionist mentality. I don’t support it either, by the way, but it’s a bummer there isn’t something else for my sons. How about if the Girl Scouts started a branch for boys?

  16. Lin Says:

Celebrities deny the grocery store door kids, just like us… kind of nice to see!

(I also agree… BSOA are homophobes, and I would not donate or help them in any way.)

  17. Dirty Diamond Affairs Says:

    wow…

  18. raness Says:

Maybe the reason why they won’t allow gay kids in boyscouts is because of some incidents that happened and they recieved complaints. They do have a responsibity to discipline and look after the kids you know, unless you know the details, who is to label them as homophobes.

  19. Shannon Says:

The money raised from the popcorn sales goes to help the Troop, and the other sales go towards things like summer camp (they raise money for that all year). The money goes to help the kids, and scouting, for many, is the only activity that kids do. They go camping all over the place, go to events across the country, and every few years have an event called the World Jamboree which involves scouts from all over the world, the last one was held in 2007 in London. This year, my brother’s troop from Brooklyn, NY not only went to camp in Tennessee, but also spent a week in Pigeon Forge, which has stuff like Dolly Parton’s amusement park, Dollywood. The kids raised the money for it by doing things such as selling popcorn and wreaths, and for a few kids, it was the first real trip they’ve taken. Research a bit before you say that you won’t give just because they won’t accept gay people in the scouts. Hopefully soon they will accept gays in scouting, that would be amazing.

  20. moi Says:

I don’t buy from the kids at the grocery store, only from the ones that come to my house – my neighbor’s kids, whom I know personally.

And I had no idea that they wouldn’t let homosexual children in! I mean is it some bizarre “don’t ask don’t tell” policy? That’s awful.

  21. Gossipgrrl Says:

oh please this article is so made up! i am calling it full of sh*T on http://www.howlegit.com

  22. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

LOL … you do realize it’s a joke, right? I may have to post this on http://www.clearlyyoudidntgethtejoke.com

  23. Joanne Says:

I didn’t know that about the Boy Scouts – obviously they have trouble differentiating between evil peodophile Boy Scout leaders and innocent gay folk who just want to enjoy the outdoors! Shame …

  24. debho Says:

What’s a joke? The part that Kristin igored the boy or that the Boy Scouts are homophobes? I’ve never heard that down here in Australia, although I don’t know much about that organisation anymore. I think it’s sad though if it has become that way…teaching boys to tie knots, be prepared and hate certain people is not what I’d like my son to be taught.

  25. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

I was joking about Kristin but the Boy Scouts do discriminate against people who violate their “moral beliefs”, they do not allow members who are atheists, agnostics, and “known or avowed” homosexuals from membership in its Scouting program: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boy_Scouts_of_America_membership_controversies

[...] Pink is the New Blog. Haven’t you heard? No, I don’t know what that means, either, but that blog has a funny little pic of a Boy Scout trying to sell popcorn to an actress. The blogger has some editorial additions to enhance the pictorial as well as his (?) satire on the event. [...]

  32. debho Says:

Thanks for clearing that up Trent. Have the Boy Scouts always been this way? And do Girl Guides feel the same way?

  33. Or maybe Says:

How about d) refuses to help fund an organization that discriminates against gays and athiests.

  34. Kabuk1 Says:

I don’t blame her for not buying their overpriced crap. I never buy anything from boy scouts OR girl scouts, cause I refuse to support ANY openly discriminatory self-righteous christian organizations.

And its really fucked up how they camp out in front of stores & ambush people on their way in & out. If I see them there I turn right around & go to a different store.

  35. Rick Hunter Says:

As an Eagle Scout (Boy Scouts Highest Rank), I can say that the liberal views being spouted about homosexuals is a chief reason for the downfall of society and the decline in traditional moral and ethical values. When this program was created 100 years ago, the moral and ethical values of Americans were exactly what is stated in the Boy Scout Handbook, especially the part about believing in God and being Morally Straight. The Boy Scouts organization is a private organization and has the right to set restrictions on who joins. How is this any different than having traditional All African American Colleges? Or all Women Colleges? Or any one of a number of organizations that set restrictions on who can join. If you don’t want to buy their stuff, then just be polite about it and say no thanks.

Personally, I’m thankful for the restrictions. At least traditional values are alive somewhere in America.

  36. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

Don’t forget that 100 years ago women were not allowed to vote and minorities were treated like second-class citizens. If that is the morality that you yearn for, Rick, then I feel very sorry for you. And, for the record, I have a very good friend who is both an Eagle Scout and a proud gay man, as well as military friends who proudly serve their country even tho they are discriminated against for being gay by the very military organization that puts them in harm’s way. I only hope that one day discrimination of the kind you are proud of is but a thing of the past.

  37. Tully Mars Says:

I don’t think he was selling popcorn at all. He saw the pictures of her babymaker online and asked her if she wanted to be in the next installment of “Hairy Pooter.”

  38. Or maybe Says:

Sure, Rick. They can do whatever they want. Just don’t expect people who aren’t closed-minded to help out I’ll donate my money to organizations who aren’t discriminatory.

I was a Boy Scout myself (made it as far as First Class, then moved to a town without a solid and active troop) and appreciate many of lessons I learned….just not the ones that discriminate based on a misguided notion of morality.

  40. Ocha Says:

Rick, Liberal views are almost ALWAYS biased. So, while they say, “discrimination is wrong and hateful”, they’ll turn around and support the very same thing IF it fits their agenda. Madonna is a very good example. She is incredibly hateful and shows very little tolerence to anything she doesn’t agree with and she’s proud of it.
And unfortunately, some people are too blind to see it, because it’s not necessarily what they want to see.
I do believe the boyscout is a good organanization and not hateful like the others labeled it to be. Everybody has a right to what they believe in, and I wish we all would treat the “freedom of speech” thing with more respect. It wasn’t made to protect hateful rants and low jabs at people.
