Britney Spears’s ‘Womanizer’ Rockets To #1
Despite the fact that Britney Spears’s new single Womanizer was accidentally removed from the iTunes online music store for a 24 hour period (and has since reappeared on the site), the single still made a record-breaking leap to the #1 spot on the Billboard magazine Hot 100 singles chart to become the #1 song in the country:
Another week, another record-breaking jump to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Britney Spears makes a near-maximum 96-1 rise with “Womanizer,” returning to the top of the list for the first time since her debut single “…Baby One More Time” hit No. 1 in January 1999. This is the third time in the past two months that the mark for the biggest jump to No. 1 has been shattered. On the Hot 100 dated Sept. 6, T.I. soared 71-1 with “Whatever You Like” and last week he sprinted 80-1 with “Live Your Life.” Spears’ single is spurred by first-week download sales of 286,000, the biggest opening-week tally by a female artist since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking digital downloads in 2003, besting Mariah Carey’s take for “Touch My Body” by just over 200 units. In between her nearly 10-year gap between No. 1s, Spears has placed four other top 10s on the Hot 100, the last being “Gimme More,” the first single from her last set, “Blackout.” That song jumped 68-3 last October with first-week download sales of 179,000. “Womanizer” previews Spears’ sixth studio set “Circus,” due Dec. 2 via Jive.
Sooo … according to Billboard magazine, Womanizer becomes Britney’s second #1 song on the Hot 100 chart?! I guess I never really paid attention to her chart success considering all of the amazing singles she has put out over the years. I am pretty geeked that Britney’s song made a record-breaking jump from the #96 position to the #1 position — especially when you consider the song charted even before it was available for sale and managed to make its mark based solely on radio play. I think it’s quite clear that Britney’s comeback is in full swing with this news … now the question becomes, to what heights will Britney continue to soar as she continues to release new material?

This song is AWFUL and so is everything she puts out. Fun, perhaps. Danceable, YES. But her songs are just not good pop standards and she can’t sing worth shi*. I am not saying Madonna or Janet can sing any better, but at least their pop songs are memorable and great (the 80s hits at least). I do wish Britney would go away.

Sad how gay men actually like Britney. Beyond sad. She’s lame. Nice that she bounced back but when was the last time she did any charity work for AIDS or the LGBT community in general??? Same goes for Madonna. At least Janet comes out for GLAAD events,etc…

This song is AWFUL, though. Honestly, she’s done some MUCH better songs. I couldn’t listen to the whole track of this one, she sounds terrible, and the whole thing is just a mess, in my personal opinion.

I did not say anything negative to Trent. What are you talking about? Actually, I LIKE Trent because he loves Siouxsie and is also aware about ‘rarer’ gay icons. So you have no clue what you are talking about. I voiced my opinion about Britney and that is what these forums are for, Neon. Trashing him would be to label him or call him names. I don’t understand his reasons for loving Brit Brit, but I don’t hold it against him. I think she’s a mess and her songs stink, and that’s my right to say. There are plenty of bands/artists out there that I am NOT a fan of: Smashing Pumpkins, Sean Kingston, Eminem, ETC. Like anyone cares right, but my point is this:
You won’t see checking out their videos and posting rude and hateful shit about it. A lot of people out there wanting to hate on Britney, but hate is just another side of love. Obviously you can’t take your eyes off the girl otherwise you wouldn’t even pay enough attention to know what to write about here nor care to take the time to do so!
Britney’s coming back and she’s looking GREAT doing it!

i suppose most of us still long for britneey’s outbreak from her crazy lifestyle. sort of like a metamorphosis. that’s why even when the songs didn’t really sound that great, as long as britney does something to show her presence in the music industry, all her die-hard-fans will just support her so she could still produce something. Anyway, most of us grew up making her our idol. i did too. Still hoping she will quit messing her life
