Britney Spears’s NYC Agenda: Shopping & A Show
Britney Spears spent another fun day in NYC yesterday, making sure she stuck to the activities that would most likely keep her out of trubs. In the afternoon, Britters went out for a short shopping excursion in the SoHo district of NYC … she popped into a few stores and even spent some time trying on a few outfits:
After picking up a few things around SoHo she glammed herself up to take in a Broadway musical last night. Here are pics of Britney’s arrival and departure from the Tony Award winning Best Musical 2008 show In the Heights last night:
I understand that Britney went out for dinner after the show but managed to be back at her hotel, safe and sound, at a reasonable hour. I have to agree with the Pink reader who commented that it’s a shame that Britney can’t go out and party like any other 26 year old girl because of the way it would be perceived by the public. True, if Brit was snapped even entering a bar or nightclub, tongues would start wagging of a relapse. I suppose it can be argued that Britney partied enough in the past couple of years for an entire lifetime, so it’s prolly a good idea that she just stay out of any perception of trubs at all. I really do trust that she is on the right track these days … even if she does indulge in a little bit of fun, I’m fairly certain she can do so safely — at least, I hope she can. At any rate, as long as she sticks with the shopping and show seeing, there’ll really be no cause for concern at all :)

Ok i have to disagree that she’s treated unfairly for a 26 year old. because, while it can be argued that she’s only 26, she’s also 26 with a past history of an alcohol/drug/mental problem. Any 26 year old with that kind of track record entering a night club setting would be a cause for at least a little concern, from the perspective of those around her.
if you had a 26 year old friend with 2 kids and has been in and out of rehab, wouldn’t you be a little worried if you saw her out partying.. even if she’s been clean and sober for 6 months?

ITA, Monique. It’s completely inappropriate for someone with a history of drug and alcohol abuse/addiction, rehab, and mental illness to be partying it up. She’s been clean and sober for a handful of months and at this early stage it’s very easy to relapse. She is not any other 26 year old girl and she does not belong in a nightclub or bar.

Going out doesn’t necessarily mean going to a nightclub or bar..The point is that she doesn’t seem to really go out to do anything stupid and fun like other 26 year olds..I’m hoping that going to this play is just the start of her being able to let loose a little..Not loose enough to get back into her old ways, but to actually look like she’s enjoying this new, clean life..I mean, this is one of the first pictures we’ve seen of her actually smiling in a while!! It seems like New York is really good for her right now..She looks so super cute in that black and red top!

Just wondering – since when did Brit have an alcohol/drug abuse problem? Wasn’t that just speculation on the part of the media for why she was in rehab?? I thought it came out afterwards that she was in rehad for mental illness / post-partum depression which was the fundamental reason she stopped speaking to her parents and manager. Am I wrong?

I thought so too, but didn’t Lynne in her book say something about Britney drinking and doing drugs? Or was that the tabs speculating? Maybe Trent can shed some light as he was reading the book…

monica–do you walk around 24/7 with a grin plastered on your face? … so why do you expect her or any other person to do so? nothing irritates me more than when random customers see me walking do the hall at work and tell me to smile for no reason.

Am I the only New Yorker that noticed that those pics posted are totally not Soho at all? I actually heard that she had to leave Soho because the paparazzi wouldn’t let her shop in peace and she got totally overwhelmed. A friend of mine works at the Columbus Circle mall and saw here there (waaaay north of Soho).
