This past Saturday I was very lucky to be able to attend the Rest comic book launch and in-store appearance at The Golden Apple comic book shop here in LA with Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia and comic artist Tim Sale. Milo, very graciously, signed a couple of copies of Rest #1 so that I could give them away to two lucky Pink is the new Blog readers. So it’s contest time, y’all:

Since it’s almost Halloween, I thought it would be fun to do a costume contest where two lucky folks will win a signed comic book each. Each year I ask that Pink readers send in fun costumed photos from their various parties or of their children on their trick-or-treating rounds. The just-turned 21 year old Zac Efron and his co-star/girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens took a respite from promoting their new movie High School Musical 3: Senior Year (which just opened in theaters this past weekend) and made their way to Hawaii this weekend to attend the nuptials of a friend. The couple also took some time to relax at the beach … it should also be noted that Zac opted to leave his shirt at the hotel:

I, uh … yeah … so Zac Efron recently turned 21 years old and stuff and … uh, I guess it’s not a bad thing to, um, admire the guy’s physical fitness. Yessir … it looks like someone has been very diligent about adhering to his work-out schedule … yep. It should also be noted that Zac is the latest member of Team Calvin Klein Underwear, who has really been on a roll lately. Um, yeah … I am running out of things to say here other than enjoy the pictures. Oh, and Vanessa Hudgens is a lucky beyotch.

This weekend, Princes William and Harry of Wales completed a week-long motorbike trek across the South African wilderness in order to help raise funds for various local charities … and today it’s back to bizznazz as usual for the young Royals. Earlier today, it was announced that Prince Harry has decided on the next phase of his military career. He plans to follow his big brother, Prince William, and wants to begin training to become a helicopter pilot:

Prince Harry is aiming to follow in his brother’s footsteps by becoming a helicopter pilot, royal officials say. Officials said Harry had begun the selection process and would find out next month whether he had been accepted for training. Harry’s elder brother, William, was awarded his Royal Air Force wings in April after training since January … In September, it was announced William is to train to become a full-time search and rescue pilot with the RAF. Prince Harry’s father, Prince Charles, and uncle, the Duke of York, have also learned to pilot military helicopters. Prince Harry spent three months in Afghanistan earlier this year.

Woot! Now, I realize that undertaking military training and committing to military service is no small matter and should never be treated as such and taken lightly. I have repeatedly expressed how impressed I am that the Princes of Wales are so committed to their military careers. But I gots ta be honest and say the thought of both Prince Wills and Harry becoming helicopter pilots is kinda cool. I mean … the uniforms alone. Again, I say Woot! I think it’s safe to say that Harry’s royal subjects and, indeed, the rest of us Harry fans fully and wholeheartedly support his decision to take to the skies. I’m looking forward to watching his training move forward … aren’t you?

Mischa Barton got snapped enjoying a little smoke recently at a trendy LA hot spot or, more appropriately, we can call the place a joint. Miss Mischa got caught rolling her own cigarette and was spied puffin’ on said hand-rolled cig … tho it’s impossible to know with certainty what exactly she was smokin’ in that cig … behold:

Now, we all know that Mischa has had problems in the past with substance abuse. She was arrested for drunk driving but managed to plea bargain her way out of serving any jailtime. I’m CERTAIN that Mischa would not want to jeopardize her freedom by doing something stupid like smoking an illegal substance in public view of anyone who happened to be standing near her (with a camera, BTW) at a club. I’m gonna assume that Mischa was merely smoking a hand-rolled tobacco cigarette … cuz, she’s not dumb enough to puff on a marijuana cigarette in public … right?

David Beckham and the LA Galaxy played their last game of the MLS soccer season yesterday in Carson, CA and altho the match ended in a 2-2 tie with FC Dallas, Becks and the boys were in a celebratory mood … well, mebbe Becks was more celebratory than the rest of the Galaxy squad but, nonetheless, everyone seemed happy. The good news is that Becks put minds at ease by promising that his future lies with the LA Galaxy (er, the future duration of his multi-million dollar contract, that is) but at a press conference with reporters confirmed his desire to make the temporary move to Italy to play for AC Milan there during the MLS off-season. Here are pics of Becks at yesterday’s game and an update on his career plans:

David Beckham insists he will stay with the Los Angeles Galaxy regardless of any possible loan to Italian power AC Milan. “At the end of the day, my commitment is still to the Galaxy and that’s not changed,” Beckham said after training Saturday. “But I’ve been given a chance to join up with one of the biggest clubs in the world, so I’m going to do that. “The Galaxy are not against it. They’ve made that clear. They said that if I want to do that, then they’re prepared to let me go there on loan until our season.” AC Milan Vice President Adriano Galliani said last week he wants to bring Beckham to Italy on a loan and possibly sign him. If the loan takes place, Beckham would arrive in January. “At the end of the day, it’s looking like it could happen,” Beckham said. “Hopefully, it will be finalized in the next week or two.” Major League Soccer Deputy Commissioner Ivan Gazidis said Thursday that the loan would be approved only if it “makes sense” for the Galaxy and Beckham, who signed a five-year contract worth $250 million in January 2007. One issue concerns whether Beckham will return to Los Angeles for the Galaxy’s preseason in March or for the first regular-season game. “At the moment, it’s not even certain yet,” Beckham said of the loan. “We’re still talking to Milan. It’s (for) a two-month spell, maybe a little bit longer.” Galaxy forward Landon Donovan, who has talked about possibly playing in Europe after this season, criticized the timing of Beckham’s pursuit of a loan agreement. “Candidly, yes,” Donovan said when asked if the timing bothered him. “It doesn’t make anything better and it doesn’t worsen anything. But it would have been nice to wait. I’m waiting until after Sunday to see what happens.” … Beckham, 33, has said he wants to play for England in the 2010 World Cup. But England coach Fabio Capello said he would consider the midfielder for future qualifying games only if he trains consistently and plays at a high level. “Footballers don’t have four months off in any league in the world, apart from here,” Beckham said of MLS’s offseason. “My body is programmed not to have so much time off. I need to play.”

I understand that Italian news reports for the past week have been that the deal was done and that Becks WOULD be coming to play for AC Milan in January. You may recall that the LA Times revealed last week that when this new “loan out” report was making the rounds, the brass at the LA Galaxy had no idea what was going on. It really does sound like Becks may have been working out this deal on his own without cluing in the Galaxy. Something tells me what David Beckham wants, David Beckham gets. He’ll, most likely, be spending the first months of January as an AC Milan fútboler.

Little darling Harlow Winter took her parents pumpkin picking yesterday so that she could being preparations for her first Halloween celebration. Because the pumpkins she was most interested in weighed more than she does, daddy Joel Madden had to tag along to do all the heavy lifting. Mama Nicole Richie was brought along as well to do the Harlow carrying:

Clearly, little Miss Harlow had no interest in following the Hollywood trend of celeb kids procuring their Halloween pumpkins from Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch in Beverly Hills, CA and decided to have her folks take her to a less trendy pumpkin picking location. You can already tell that she’s teeming with that indie spirit that her father has. I’m not sure if we’re going to be privy to Harlow’s first Halloween costume but whatever she may dress-up as, I’m sure it’ll be absolutely adorable.
