First Look: ‘Lost’ Season 5

A new trailer
Friday, October 24th, 2008

The fifth season of Lost doesn’t debut on ABC until “early 2009″ but today we get to feast our eyes on a new trailer that has made its way to the InterWeb that sets up the action for the coming season:

I must admit, I was very lukewarm on the last season of Lost … and altho the action picked up by the end of the season (with quite a few interesting developments), I wasn’t as gung-ho for the show as I had been in previous years. The trailer makes it very clear where things are going in Season 5 … but does it look interesting enough to all y’all? It appears that all the action will revolve on getting the just rescued Oceanic 6 back to the island. Doesn’t this smell of Prison Break’s attempt to try and have the escapees break back into jail? I dunno … should we be worried?

Ryan Phillippe & His Karate Kid

Awwww! So cute!
Friday, October 24th, 2008

When last we saw little Deacon Reese Phillippe making his way to karate class he was in the company of his mother Reese Witherspoon. This time around, daddy Ryan Phillippe was doing dropping off at karate class duty … and what a precious sight it was … behold:

Ryan also took the opportunity to show off some new ink as he dropped off the little tyke at his class. You will note that Ryan has a new tattoo on the top part of his arm … could he be going for a full arm sleeve of tattoos? Inked or not, I’m still a fan and I love seeing pics of Ryan with his kiddies. With all the karate training that Deacon has been undergoing in the past few months, I suspect he may be very close to becoming a black belt ;)

Various Stars Come Out For ‘A Night Of Stars’

For the 25th time
Friday, October 24th, 2008

Cipriani Wall Street in NYC was the site of the 25th annual Night of Stars hosted by The Fashion Group International last night. Honoring celebs and dignitaries for achievements in fashion, beauty, architecture, entertainment AND humanitarianism, last night’s Night of Stars event brought out a Who’s Who of the celebrity elite. Here are a few pics from the arrivals last night:

Donatella Versace was honored as the “Superstar” of the evening and it looks like she attended last night’s event with Balthazar Getty (hmm … I wonder if Sienna Miller knows about this?). Jennifer Lopez looked utterly amazing in her Diva Latina finery and everyone else looked pissed off or really grouchy upon arrival. Marcia Gay Harden looked ready to whip someone’s ass … I hope folks were smart enough to not get on her bad side. Debra Messing was shutting it down last night. I mean it, she looked bananas in her black dress and her amazingly flat-ironed hair’do. Oh yeah, she killed it. Er … as a client of Rachel Zoe’s, I felt it was necessary to get those catchphrases on the record. Yeah, I dunno if any of the honorees were worthy of whatever awards they were honored with last night but folks sure did look purdy at the event anyways.

Travis Barker Is Back Up & Around

Spends time with his daughter in SoCal
Friday, October 24th, 2008

Yesterday we got to see new photos of DJ Adam AM Goldstein back to work at his weekly DJ gig in Las Vegas, NV and today we get to see new photos of Travis Barker out and about spending time with his daughter Alabama Luella. You may recall that both men survived a deadly plane crash in South Carolina last month and each underwent extensive surgeries in their recovery processes. It’s a happy day seeing these new pics of Travis back on his feet and lookin’ so well so soon after his tragic accident:

I still find it very amazing that not only are both DJ AM and Travis Barker already out of the hospital but that they are both back up and around as well! Yesterday we saw pics of AM back to doing what he loves to do and today we get to see Travis enjoying time with someone that he loves so much. I am just thrilled that both men are doing so well. I wish them both a quick road to full recovery … heal well, guys!

First Look: Heath Ledger In ‘The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus’

Late actor plays a masked clown in his final role
Friday, October 24th, 2008

The first photos from the late Heath Ledger’s final role have made their way to the Internets. The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus was the film that Heath was working on — was very close to finishing, in fact — when he tragically passed away earlier this year. As y’all know, Heath very expertly portrayed The Joker in this summer’s blockbuster film Batman: The Dark Knight but it turns out that his other performance as a clown will be remembered as his final film:

Newly released photos show Heath Ledger in the film role he never completed. The actor died of an overdose of prescription medicine halfway through filming The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus in January. The 28-year-old’s death temporarily stopped work on the film, but it has now been completed and is due out next year. The photos are the first official shots to be released. Following his death Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell all stepped in to fill his role for the remainder of the film, playing different incarnations of Ledger’s character. The £15 million fantasy film involves a supernatural mirror that takes people into different dimensions, allowing director Terry Gilliam to switch between actors. Gilliam, who previously worked with Ledger on The Brothers Grimm, has retained the footage shot of the late actor. A third of the movie was filmed in London’s Clerkenwell, with Ledger dying in his Manhattan apartment three days after completion. His co-stars, including model Lily Cole, went onto film in Canada.

Even tho it’s been many months since Heath Ledger passed away, I still find his loss very hard to accept. He was so vibrant and was such a talented actor … I really do miss him still. Even tho I had no reservations in watching Heath’s performance in The Dark Knight after his passing, I am hesitant about seeing this movie. I dunno why … there is a different sort of tragedy attached to this film for me. I have no doubt that Heath turned in an exceptional performance. After the jump, check out a few more photos of Heath as the motley clown in Parnassus

‘[REC]’ Gets A Decent Redux

The TV Guide
Friday, October 24th, 2008

Last night Darion and I scrapped plans to go to Universal Studios and decided instead to catch a movie. We originally planned to spend the day at Universal but because of their weird hours (they close at 6pm) and the fact that they only do their Halloween Horror Nights on the weekends, we decided to nix the idea. I was really interested in going because I am looking for the masks that were worn in the horror movie The Strangers. Since Universal made the movie and their Halloween Horror Nights feature people wearing those masks walking around the park, I was hoping they might have them for sale. If anyone out there knows where I might be able procure those masks, please shoot me a message.

Anyways, D and I decided to go see Quarantine (which is the US remake of the Spanish film [REC] which was released in Spain last year) for our night’s entertainment:

As far as epic horror films go, this one isn’t of the Silence of the Lambs caliber but D and I enjoyed the movie very much. I was previously able to watch the Spanish original in full earlier this year and I loved it … I found this US remake a very true remake of the film. All the key points were kept intact with only minor changes to mix things up a bit. Dexter’s Jennifer Carpenter does a great job in the lead role. I just lurve her!! Creepy and gross, this movie really keep us on the edge of our seats — we had a great time. Is this film headed for the Horror Hall of Fame? Prolly not. Is it worth checking out for a few gross and scary chills? Hellz yes! It’s a fun time.

Not sure what is on tap for ce soir … but it’s the weekend, y’all … I’m sure they’ll be lots o’ fun to choose from.
