Angelina Jolie Bares Her Soul & More In ‘W’ Magazine

NSFWish images from the new issue of 'W'
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

A couple of weeks ago we got our first look at the cover of W magazine that features Angelina Jolie breastfeeding one of her babies on the cover in a photo that was taken by none other than Brad Pitt himself. The week after we got to see a few more photos from the spread but nothing that was racy by any means. This week the magazine is out and there do seem to be a couple of risqué yet arty NSFW images of Angelina in the photospread. First, let’s take a look a two really sweet photos of Angelina breastfeeding:

I, for one, see nothing wrong with these photos … in fact, I find them stunningly beautiful. She looks so peaceful and natural. They are great photos. I understand that there are around 30 pages of photos in this issue of W magazine … including one where Angelina is snapped wearing a very sheer top which practically exposes one of her breasts. Now, I can understand why Brad Pitt would want to take a photo like that but I don’t know why either of them would want to have a photo like that published in a major magazine. After the jump, check it out …

Beyoncé Channels Her Inner Etta James

Found filling out her figure for the role "tasty"
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Beyoncé is featured on the cover of the new issue of In Style magazine and in her coverstory interview she talks about how much fun she had gaining the almost 15lbs. to play the role of soul singer Etta James in her upcoming film Cadillac Records:

Beyoncé reclaimed her bootylicious curves (and then some!) to play soul singer Etta James in the upcoming film Cadillac Records. “I gained almost 15 pounds to play the role,” Beyoncé, 27, says in the November issue of In Style. “It was way easier – and tastier – than having to lose so much weight for Dreamgirls.” Her legendary role didn’t only affect her figure, but it also rubbed off on her music. “Lyrically, it’s deeper than what I’ve done before,” the singer, who recently debuted two singles, says of her album due Nov. 18. “I wasn’t mature enough or old enough, or in touch with myself enough, to do this type of album before. I didn’t have the guts.”

Well, she appears to have the guts now … of course, we’ve yet to hear any of her new Etta-like singing but by pure looks alone, she really nailed the part:

I gotta say that Beyoncé really does look amazing as Etta … stunning, actually. I really hope she is able to do the woman justice in her portrayal in Cadillac Records because I believe that Etta James is a music legend who should be honored for her contributions to soul and jazz music. I am really looking forward to seeing this film, I sincerely hope that Beyoncé does Ms. Etta right.

Celebs Spend A Night At The Whitney Museum

Glamor & Glitter, Fashion & Fame
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Celebs of varying caliber in the acting, music and fashion world came out for a swanky night of hob-nobbing at the 2008 Whitney Museum of American Art Gala in NYC last night. Here are a few photos of some of the folks who made their way to the soiree in order to strut their stuff on the red carpet:

The theme for the gala was Whitney — Past, Present and Future which I assume was meant to refer to the artwork on display rather than the regular ol’ stuff we saw on the red carpet fashion-wise. Mariah Carey and her childhubby Nick Cannon made their way out to the Whitney affair last night lookin’ as mismatched as ever … tho not as mismatched a pair as Patrick Dempsey and Donatella Versace looked. Dr. McHotPants was lookin’ smokin’ in his Versace suit … Donatella just looked hungry. Christina Ricci made sure that her expensive dress was cut just so in order to show off her very classy tattoo and Juliette Lewis was most likely just there for the free drinks. Oh yeah. Sounds like a fun time in the Big Apple last night. Hurray for the Arts!

Chace Crawford Does ‘V Man’ Magazine

Grease is the word
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Gossip Girl prettyboy Chace Crawford is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of V Man magazine. Behold, the cover:

Because V Man is men’s fashion magazine, it is necessary to style celebrity covermodels in various interesting “fashion-forward” ways. Now, I am not a fan of the bouffant hair’do (which is a look that works better on Danny Zuko or El Vez) but even Chace Crawford can kinda make it look purdy. After the jump, check out two more photos of Chace from this interesting V Man photospread …

Britney Spears’s Traffic Trial Ends In A Mistrial

Vindication ... kinda ;)
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

You may recall that the driving-without-a-license trial that has been brought against Britney Spears was argued in court last week and went to jury deliberation by the weekend. Well, the jury came back with their verdict today … they determined that there is no verdict because they couldn’t reach a unanimous decision. 10 jurors voted for acquittal, 2 were against — and remained deadlocked. The judge presiding over the case decided to call the whole thing off and declare a mistrial:

A mistrial was declared in Britney Spears’ driving-without-a-license case Tuesday, sparing the singer a criminal record — for now — as she pushes to put her music career in front of her behavior. The jury’s deadlock could not be broken, even after Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James Steele permitted prosecution and defense attorneys to make additional closing arguments Tuesday morning. Spears came close to bucking the matter altogether: The jury’s final vote was 10-2 in favor of acquittal. A city prosecutor did not immediately indicate whether a retrial would be sought, but an afternoon hearing was scheduled to determine whether the case would be pursued further. The jury struggled with the case since resuming deliberations Monday, telling a judge they couldn’t reach an unanimous decision after five votes going back to Friday. Steele thanked jurors for their time and dismissed them. Deliberations lasted longer than the case, which featured only three witnesses and roughly a day’s worth of testimony and arguments. Jurors posed a pair of questions Monday before declaring themselves deadlocked. One sought to clarify the charges against Spears, and whether she should be considered guilty if she possessed a valid Louisiana license, as her attorney has said she did. The other: “Why was she stopped in the first place?” In fact, there was no traffic stop that precipitated the case; she was cited for hit-and-run and driving without a valid California license later, after video of the accident surfaced. The defense argued that Spears didn’t meet the state’s residency requirements, and that her Louisiana license was all she needed to drive legally. Defense and prosecution attorneys agreed that Spears was behind the wheel in California in August 2007. That kept jurors from hearing any mention of the hit-and-run — or any narrative elements to explain why she faced a criminal charge. Los Angeles Deputy City Attorney Michael Amerian initially put up only one witness and entered one piece of evidence during the trial, showing that Spears did not have a valid California license more than a week after the accident. In all, only three witnesses testified during the case. After Flanagan called Spears’ father to the stand, Amerian introduced signed papers from the singer’s divorce that indicated she had been a California resident since at least 2006. The final witness was a paparazzo who, along with other shooters, tails Spears constantly and said she spends about 80 percent of her time in Los Angeles. Flanagan countered, however, that none of those things required Spears to get a California license. Spears never appeared during the trial. She is in the midst of a comeback, recently earning three MTV Video Music Awards. As her trial started last week, Billboard announced that her new single, “Womanizer,” was No. 1 on its charts. Flanagan repeatedly said Spears had been targeted because of her celebrity status and said she should have been permitted to resolve the case by paying a small fine … [prosecutor] Amerian plans to run for City Attorney next year … said Spears was being treated the same as any other driver. He conceded that it is “extremely rare” for a misdemeanor driving without-a-valid-license case to go to trial, and neither he nor Flanagan could cite and example of when it had happened in Los Angeles.

So the guy who is trying to prosecute her for a misdemeanor traffic charge that not even he can recall has ever gone to trial before is running for a higher office next year … and we’re supposed to wonder why Britney Spears was taken to court in the first place? The whole thing is ridiculous. I’m glad that the matter resulted in a mistrial because the whole things smells of a horrible misuse of public funds. I sincerely doubt this matter will be brought before the court again. I think enough of the public’s money has been wasted in vain. Wee! Britney is free to drive the streets of LA again! Er … waitaminute … can someone remind me why that is a good thing again?

Watching Mark Wahlberg Is ‘Payne’-Ful

Plus, EXCITING 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' news!!!
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Woot! I have some amazingly exciting Buffy news to impart today but first things first. Yesterday afternon, I met up with Darion on the West Side so that we could take a drive down to Redondo Beach, CA to dine at the amazingly delicious Chick-Fil-A. After we had sufficiently supped, we met up with Kirsten to catch a showing of the #1 movie at the box office, Max Payne. Now, it should be noted that it was not my movie pic (mainly because I am always disappointed by movies based on video games) but we decided to trust Darion on this one … turns out … we shouldn’t've:

I cannot even stress how horrrrrible this movie was. I mean … for an action film, you might expect action but that’s not what you get from Max Payne. The movie is just boring. Bottom line. ZZZZZZZZfest. Mark Wahlberg offers one facial expression the entire film and you spend all of your time trying to figure out what the hell is going on. The confusing story is so boring, tho, that you quickly lose interest and end up just hoping for amazing action scenes with cool special effects. Even then … nothing. Sure there are some FX but they were sparse and, IMHO, pointless. Heroes offers more exciting effects than this movie did. Throw in formulaic story-telling (with the classic villainy that allows the hero to escape and save the day) and you get a pretty worthless movie. I bet watching the video game would be more entertaining. Seriously, I can’t even give it a rating of poop sandwich cuz that would be too kind. Trust me, take a pass on this one. I couldn’t find one redeeming quality. It’s just … bad.

BUT .. the night was not a total wash. Last week, Pink reader John gave me the head’s up that Best Buy is offering free DVDs of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Cast Panel Discussion that was hosted by the Paley Center this past March. You may recall that I was very lucky to attend that panel discussion in person. On John’s advice, Darion and I popped in to a local Best Buy and, lo and behold, they did have them (on an endcap next to the BtVS DVD box sets). After the movie, Darion, Kirsten and I watched the entire 90 minute DVD — so awesome!

I know there were lots of fans who were not able to get inside for the panel discussion so I’m sure this DVD will be in high demand. My suggestion is to check your local Best Buy as soon as you can to see if they have the DVDs in your town:

The entire panel discussion is featured on this disc … it’s a must see for any Buffy fan. It turns out that my mug made it onto the DVD as well. In a few shots, you can see my profile in the audience:

I never thought I’d be happy to have such a recognizably big nose ;) In any event, Buffy fans should really seek out this DVD. I’m not sure if this Buffy Cast Panel video will be available in any other format … so get it if you can*.

*It’s worth noting that the DVD is Region 1 encoded so it will not play on DVD players outside of North America.

No plans for today … I’m gonna try and get out and enjoy the sunshine. The weather is still very beautiful here in SoCal so I wanna soak it up as much as I can.
