Think Different: California Proposition 8

It's just common sense
Monday, October 13th, 2008

A new set of PSAs about California Proposition 8 are about to be released (one of them features Margaret Cho, another Molly Ringwald) and I’ve been able to preview one of them right here on Pink is the new Blog. As you may already know, Prop 8 seeks to outlaw same-sex marriage in the State of California, which I am vehemently opposed to. Here is the PSA:

For me, it’s a simple matter of allowing rights for all versus stripping rights from “certain people”. Before 1920 women were not allowed to vote in this country … now all male and female citizens of the US are allowed the right to vote. Before 1957 African Americans were not allowed to attend public schools with Caucasian children … now barring any minority group from attending any public school is strictly outlawed. Very soon all citizens of the US will be able to marry … and it all begins with opposing any propositions that seek to strip rights away from anyone. For me, it’s a very simple matter — I’m hoping that all Californians vote NO on Proposition 8.

Hugh Jackman Is Forty & Fabulous

Woot! Woot!
Monday, October 13th, 2008

Hugh Jackman celebrated his 40th birthday at the Royal Motorboat Club in Sydney, Australia yesterday with his wife Deborra-Lee Furness. Today we get to see a few pictures of a shirtless and wet (my two favorite things) Hugh Jackman carrying on his birthday celebration at Bronte Beach earlier today:

Whew! Can anyone every grow tired of seeing pics of Hugh Jackman lookin’ this wet, this mostly nekkid? I sincerely doubt it. I mean, his body is just sick. 40 never looked so good :)

Casey Aldridge: Gimme, Gimme Mow

He works hard for a livin'
Monday, October 13th, 2008

Yesterday we saw pics of new dad Casey Aldridge taking care of his favorite toy at the coin-operated car wash in Liberty, MS and today we have a pic of Casey and another of his toys. Here is a new pic of papa Casey riding astride his fancy lawnmower as he cut the grass on his front lawn earlier today:

As I’ve been saying, Casey is just a good ol’ boy. Never meanin’ no harm. Someday the mountain might get him but the law never will. Say what you will about the lad, he really does seem like a hard worker. If he hasn’t tried to capitalize on his famous babymama Jamie Lynn Spears by now then I sincerely doubt that he ever will. It’s a bit refreshing, no?

Matthew McConaughey Gets Down & Dirty

Readies the motor home for an upcoming family trip?
Monday, October 13th, 2008

Matthew McConaughey was snapped doing a bit of gross, dirty work to prepare his … ahem … motor home for a possible family trip sometime in the future. Here is a pic of Matthew hooking up the sewer hose or something to said motor home:

Now, I know that Matthew is fond of not wearing deodorant but I sincerely hope he is a fan of hand washing. Ew. And, uh, does anyone know what the hell he’s wearing on his head in this pic? It really does look like the headband worn by Conan the Barbarian … or Xena the Warrior Princess. Yeah, it’s not a good look for him and does much to greatly diminish his sexy factor. That said, I really do like the idea of Mathew packing up his babymama Camila Alves and his newborn son Levi Alves for a cross-country family trip in a motor home. Mebe the plan is to visit Rooster McConaughey and his son Miller Lyte? It so sounds like a McConaughey family tradition, doesn’t it?

Jude Law Takes The Jude’stache On Holiday

Hair apparent
Monday, October 13th, 2008

Last week we got our first look at Jude Law’s new facial hair that has been grown especially for his upcoming role as Watson in the new Guy Ritchie-directed Sherlock Holmes movie which is currently filming in London, England. But today Jude has relocated the Jude’stache to Nice, France so that they both could attend the MIPCOM Global Media Content Trade Show … here are pics of their arrival in France earlier today:

I’m very much a fan of Mr. Law and his usual sexiness but … something about this lip hair really appeals to me. I don’t know if it’s the ’70’s porn star vibe or what but this look is a very hot one for our dear Jude. I am very much looking forward to seeing more of the Jude’stache in the coming weeks as Sherlock Holmes continues to be filmed in London. Woot!

First Look: Beyoncé, ‘Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)’

Get your Freakum dance on
Monday, October 13th, 2008

Last Saturday we got our first look at Beyoncé’s new music video for If I Were A Boy and today we get our first look at her other new music video for Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It). Each video has a very distinctly different message but they deffo show that Beyoncé is more than just a crooner or a dancer … she’s also a schizophrenic:

Beyoncé has two new songs on the radio — and two new videos as well. Why two, you might ask? Because one of them is not really Beyoncé: It’s Sasha. As B hinted in a letter to fans earlier this month, she wants to show “the many sides” of herself, and she’s doing that via two completely different videos, even if they are both in black and white. One video is pure Sasha — her onstage persona — and the other is stripped-down Beyoncé. “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” is an upbeat dance track, and as such, the video is about dancing. B is joined by two look-alike dancers, befitting her alter-ego theme. They click their heels, almost as if they’re tap dancing, to give the song some extra beats, but despite all the hip-and-leg shaking going on, they want you to look at their hands. More specifically, their ring fingers. And since Beyoncé didn’t even want an engagement ring, according to what she told Essence magazine, this is your first clue that this song is really from Sasha’s heart, not Beyoncé’s. The video for “If I Were a Boy,” the Beyoncé side of the two, however, is the more meaningful one — and it comes with a twist that requires repeat viewing. Beyoncé and her boyfriend say a few words (”intimacy,” “honesty,” “commitment”), and then they start saying the words together: “You.” “Me.” “Us.” … The message might hearken back to what Ciara sang when she and B were going through a tomboy phase in their video clips, but this time, Beyoncé makes you feel it. Without the video, you might not.

In case you missed watching If I Were A Boy the first time around, you can watch it online right here as well. After the jump, check out B’s video for If I Were A Boy

The ‘Americana’ Way

The TV Guide
Monday, October 13th, 2008

Yesterday I met up with Mike and his sister Jill for an evening of hanging out at the “new Grove” that opened earlier this year in Glendale, CA. Called The Americana, the new shopping center in Glendale is set up much the same way that The Grove in LA is set-up but with minor flourishes and ample living space. It was my first visit so I was anxious to check it out. While I thought it was kinda cool, it didn’t have the same magic that The Grove does. That said, I was impressed with the more and differing options that are available at The Americana. For dinner, we decided on Mexican cuisine at Frida and then spent the rest of the evening just walking around the place. One of the highlights of this new shopping center is the ability to live there … literally, your balcony would overlook the entire shopping area. Now, I’m not sure if people will really want to have an outdoor shopping mall right outside their windows but … I guess different strokes.

Last night I finished reading my first complete book on my new Kindle electronic book reader. I finished The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman as well as a new Stephen King short story called N. I gotta say, I am really loving my new e-book reader. It makes reading so much easier. I am concerned by how easy it is to just buy books and have them immediately show up in your Kindle library. It reminds me very much of the way the iPod revolutionized music buying. The neat thing about the Stephen King short story was that it came as a free immediate download if you pre-ordered his new new book of short stories Just After Sunset (due out in November). I am having no trouble getting a lotta use of my new Kindle.

No plans for this afternoon, tho I need to start cleaning my apt. ASAP. David arrives in a couple of days and I need to clear out some space to put him ;)
