Cuteness abounds
Nicole Richie & Harlow Winter Do ‘People’ Magazine

Nicole Richie and her babygirl Harlow Winter are featured on the cover of this week’s issue of People magazine 9 months after Harlow was born and 8 months after mother and daughter last appeared on the cover of People magazine:

First, this little girl has gotten so BIG! She’s almost bigger than Nicole ;) Second, OMG how cute is she? She is the spitting image of her father Joel Madden. I’m dying. So cute, I’m totally dying. After the jump, check out a couple more photos of Harlow — one with mom Nicole and one with daddy Joel

Appears to be breast feeding on the cover of the mag
Angelina Jolie Does ‘W’ Magazine

Angelina Jolie is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of W magazine. Life & Style magazine reports that Angelina is photographed breast feeding one of her newborn twins in the mag … and, indeed, the cover photo appears to show Ange breast feeding. It’s unclear if there are any other intimately private photos of this nature inside the mag but I think the cover photo deffo makes a statement … check it out:

It’s true! Sources who’ve seen the photos confirm exclusively to Life & Style that Angelina Jolie really did pose for the cover story of W magazine while breast-feeding! “Angelina posed for Brad [Pitt] in one of the photos while breast-feeding,” the source reveals to Life & Style. “It’s really beautiful and tastefully done.” “The photos are amazing,” adds a second source. Brad shot the photos in mid-August at Chateau Miraval, the family’s home in the South of France. They’re scheduled to appear in W’s November issue, hitting newsstands on Oct. 21.

My guess is that this cover photo is prolly the only one to show Ange breast feeding but … who knows … it is the Art Issue after all, I guess we’ll find out soon enough. As for this cover photo, I personally think it’s really a beautiful shot. Very tasteful, very pretty. Angelina really looks like the portrait of motherhood. I quite like this photo. Thus far, no portions of the W interview (if there is one) have been disclosed and no other photos from the mag have come to light … but I’ll keep my eyes out. Since the mag boasts that they have “Brad’s Private Photos of Angelina Jolie” I am very curious to see them. What do y’all think of this cover photo? Is it too much?

The Whitney Port-centered reality series will debut on MTV in 2009
MTV Officially Picks Up ‘The City’

MTV has released a press release that officially confirms that the new reality TV series The City, which is a spin-off of their hugely successful series The Hills, has been picked up and will begin airing on the network in the early part of the new year. As y’all know, Whitney Port will be the central figure on The City (much like Lauren LC Conrad is the central figure on The Hills) and has been filming scenes around NYC of a romantic and friendly nature with her new cast of reality cohorts. At last we have final confirmation that those scenes will finally make it to air:

From the MTV press release:

WHITNEY TRIES NEW YORK CITY ON FOR SIZE AS MTV GREENLIGHTS “THE CITY”

“The Hills” Spinoff Series Scheduled To Air Q1 2009

It’s a whole new world for “The Hills’” star Whitney Port, as she packs up and moves from the comforts of her hometown in Los Angeles, California, to the bright lights of Manhattan as MTV officially greenlights “The City.” From Adam DiVello (Done and Done Productions), creator and executive producer of “The Hills,” “The City” is scheduled to air Q1, 2009. Liz Gateley, creator and executive producer of “Laguna Beach,” developed and executive produces the project for MTV.

With a great new job at global design house, Diane Von Furstenberg, a best friend from her past and a guy she’s head-over-heels for, Whitney is taking a huge chance at a brand new life. Surrounded by all new friends, pursuing a fresh love life, and starting to work in the upper echelon of the fashion industry is a lot to navigate for a new girl in the big city… especially one who has everything to lose. In a city full of people with their own agendas, Whitney will have to quickly decide who she can trust and who to stay away from.

“Just as ‘The Hills’ organically evolved out of Laguna Beach, following the story of Lauren Conrad as she broke out of her protective bubble at home and moved to Los Angeles to make it on her own, we are now following another compelling character,” said Tony DiSanto, Executive Vice President, Series Development & Programming, MTV. “Now it’s Whitney’s turn. We’re bringing you her story as she leaves Los Angeles to break into the exciting Mecca of the fashion world, New York City. She is someone the viewers have grown to love; she’s confident, smart and truly someone to root for as she strives to take Manhattan!”

“I am thrilled and honored to be in New York City, not only working for one of the most renowned fashion designers, Diane Von Furstenberg, but to be able to mature as a young woman both professionally and personally,” said Whitney Port.

“The City” is created by Adam DiVello. Adam DiVello, Sean Travis and Liz Gateley will serve as executive producers. Colin Nash is co-executive producer. Catherine K. Whyte is MTV’s executive-in-charge of production. Spike Van Briesen and Sophia Rossi serve as supervising producers for the series.

I mean, c’mon, we totally knew that MTV was gonna air this series so this news isn’t really news at all. But the officialness of the announcement has to sting just a little for Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt. It was commonly believed that they would be getting their own spin-off TV series once The Hills ran its course … and, indeed, they might still. It just seems very telling that MTV is investing so much on this Whitney-centered TV series — and there is no sign that Speidi are going to be given the same treatment. My guess is that Speidi will eventually get their own TV series but I wouldn’t be surprised if their show was on another network. They seem like the type of folks that would do well at E! Maybe The Hills will get one more season, mebbe not but at least Whitney can breathe easy … she now knows that she’ll be on TV next year. It remains to be seen if any of the other folks on The Hills will be as lucky.

A "not together" + "it's over" = deffo dunzo!
Hugh Hefner Confirms Split With Holly Madison

Marc Malkin of E! News is reporting that Playboy magazine mogul Hugh Hefner is confirming his split from longtime girlfriend Holly Madison. You may recall that Holly Madison broke the news to TMZ earlier this week that she and Hef are “not together”. Malkin spoke directly to Hefner and learned straight for the old grey mare horse’s mouth that the couple are “over”. In his chat with Malkin, Hef also discloses the state of his relationships with his other two girlfriends Kendra Wilkinson and Bridget Marquardt (essentially, they’re still doing it but not for long, apparently). Here is a pic of me with Hef and Holly at a Playboy party at Mood nightclub here in LA back in July of 2006 and portions of Marc Malkin‘s chat with Hefner:

It’s really over. Hugh Hefner confirms he and Holly Madison are no longer. “If she says it’s over, it’s over,” Hefner tells me. “But like I’ve said before, she is the love of my life, and I expected to spend the rest of my life with her.” The Playboy mogul says the relationship started to crumble about six months ago when they learned he was unable to father a child with Holly. “With my sperm count, it’s not possible,” Hefner explained. “I was willing but it was not possible … She’d like to be married and have children, but it’s not in the cards here for me.” Where does that leave the other two Girls Next Door, Kendra Wilkinson and Bridget Marquardt? Hefner says they’re still romantically involved, but admitted, “the relationship with Kendra will be ending when she moves out, probably by the end of this year.” Hef ain’t wasting anytime getting back in the saddle though. In the last week, he’s been spotted with 19-year-old twins Kristina and Karissa Shannon. “They very much want to be girlfriends and now under the present circumstance, they probably will become my girlfriends,” Hefner says.

Well then, I guess we’ve heard from both of the interested parties so it must really really be over. I gotta say … I’m a bit icked out about Hugh Hefner talking about his dwindling sperm count. You always hear about how men can father children well into old age … but I guess there really does come a time when a man, er, runs out of juice (EW, sorry!). But, onward and upwards, I suppose. Yesterday we got our first look at the set of twins, Karissa and Kristina, that Hef is lookin’ to “probably” make his replacement girlfriends. Malkin adds that Hefner has also been “testing” a girl named Amy Leigh Andrews at the Playboy Mansion this week for the position of one of his girlfriends. As to what “testing” involves, well, I’m sure I REALLY DON’T WANT TO KNOW the specifics of that.

Finally discloses her marital status, reveals her new album title
Beyoncé Does ‘Essence’ Magazine

Beyoncé is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Essence magazine wherein she FINALLY comes clean and confirms (what we all knew already) that she DID MARRY Jay-Z (née Shawn Carter) earlier this year in April (so, congrats again B-Jay!). Additionally, her as-yet-untitled album has, at last, been titled — according to BeyonceWorld.net the album will be called I Am … Here are a few of Beyoncé‘s Essence mag photos and portions of her revelatory interview:

Beyonce is finally breaking her silence on her hush-hush wedding to Jay-Z. The singer, 27, tells November’s Essence that she kept their April wedding at Jay-Z’s NYC apartment quiet and small because she is not a “traditional woman.” She adds, “It’s been my day so many days already.” Despite being engaged, she never confirmed rumors or wore a ring. “People put too much emphasis on that,” says the singer, whose new album drops Nov. 18. “It’s just material, and it’s just silly to me.” (Instead, the couple have matching IV tattoos on their ring fingers. They were each born on the fourth day of a month – Beyonce on September 4; Jay-Z, December 4. They wed on April 4.) Beyonce — who’s been dating the rapper since 2002 — says she wasn’t surprised when they walked down the aisle. “We’ve been together a long time,” she says. “We always knew it would happen.” “What Jay and I have is real,” she goes on. “It’s not about interviews or getting the right photo op. It’s real.” Jay-Z recently hinted at a desire to have a baby. “Most people I guess dream of having a family some day,” he told reporters in NYC, “so I’m just a regular American boy.”

I’m glad that B has finally decided to end the nonsense of not disclosing that she and Jay got married. While I understand that celebs want to keep certain things about their private life quiet, it strikes me as silly when they maintain a total radio silence when other folks in the know talk freely about their biz (you may recall that Mary J. Blige publicly congratulated B-Jay on their nuptials the day after they were wed). I, personally, do not find it intrusive to know if a celebrity is married. But, in any event, B-Jay must’ve had their reasons for staying mum … and have finally given confirmation.

Yesterday, we got to hear Beyoncé‘s two new singles, If I Were A Boy and Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) and today we learn that those tracks (of the reported “60 to 70 songs” that she recorded) are the first to be released from her newly titled album I Am …, which is due for release in December. So much new info from Beyoncé today, I don’t even know what to do with myself!

A very important message from Hilary Duff and GLSEN
Think Before You Speak

The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) has teamed up with celebs like Hilary Duff and Wanda Sykes to create PSA advertising to help curb bullying or threatening language aimed at LGBT youth. Think Before You Speak is a new campaign that seeks to educate young people about the harmful nature of associating negativity by saying “that’s so gay” — which is an issue that I, as a teacher, tried to take on at the school I worked at a few years ago. This issue is very close to my heart and I am very glad to see that this new campaign has been launched:

FOR the first time since the Advertising Council was founded in 1942, the organization — which directs and coordinates public service campaigns on behalf of Madison Avenue and the media industry — is introducing ads meant to tackle a social issue of concern to gays and lesbians. The campaign, which is scheduled to be announced by the council in Washington on Wednesday, will seek to discourage bullying and harassment of teenagers who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. The campaign, created pro bono by the New York office of Arnold Worldwide, urges an end to using derogatory language, particularly labeling anything deemed negative or unpleasant as “so gay.” That is underlined by the theme of the campaign: “When you say, ‘That’s so gay,’ do you realize what you say? Knock it off.” There will be television and radio commercials, print and outdoor ads and a special Web site devoted to the campaign (thinkb4youspeak.com). Some spots feature celebrities, the young actress Hilary Duff and the comedian Wanda Sykes, delivering the message. The campaign is on behalf of a nonprofit organization in New York called the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, or Glsen (pronounced glisten), which promotes tolerance among students. Glsen is spending about $2 million to develop and produce the campaign. The introduction of the campaign will be accompanied by Glsen’s release of the 2007 edition of an annual report, the National School Climate Survey. The survey will report that 9 in 10 teenagers who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender said they were verbally harassed during the last school year. Almost half said they were also physically harassed because of their sexual orientation. The campaign is “something I dreamed about for 10 years,” said Kevin Jennings, the founder and executive director at Glsen, and has been in active development for two years. “If you follow hateful language, you eventually get hurtful behavior,” he added. “The chain of events begins with kids learning it’s O.K. to disrespect people.” The campaign is “a very bold step” on the part of the council, Mr. Jennings said, in that “this will be, by a million miles, the largest public education campaign on L.G.B.T. issues” … The council has presented antidiscrimination campaigns like “A mind is a terrible thing to waste,” for the United Negro College Fund, and ads promoting gender equality (“Expect the best from a girl and that’s what you’ll get”) … the goal was “to show the situation in a new light,” Mr. Staffen said, “to point out this language can be hurtful and let the kids make their own decisions.” “Ultimately, we believe they will make the right decision,” he added.

Kudos to both the Advertising Council and GLSEN for taking such a bold, important step in this matter. As I said, when I taught high school kids, this was an issue that we tried to take on and were marginally successful with. At our school, we found that kids weren’t necessarily trying to be hurtful with their language … they were just too comfortable associating something bad or negative (like a pop quiz, for example) with “being gay” (ie. In the library where my desk was located I might hear “that pop quiz was so gay”). When it was brought to the kid’s attention, they realize that what they were saying was wrong and could be hurtful to others. I think a campaign like this will go along way to help educate more kids on a larger scale. After the jump, check out Hilary Duff‘s Think Before You Speak PSA …

Accidents happen ... repeatedly
Britney Spears Involved In Another Fender Bender

Our dear Britney Spears, who has been on a pretty successful roll on the positive image train, was involved in a minor car accident yesterday. The bad news is that I’ve already lost count of how many run-ins with other vehicles Britney has been involved in (let’s face it, when Brit was a total mess last year she was hittin’ cars left and right) … the good news is that she was absolutely not at fault this time around — she wasn’t driving. Britters did not let this latest fender bender bring her down, she kept right on shoppin’ and continued on her way totally unphased:

Britney Spears was involved in another car accident with a photographer on Wednesday, just hours after her criminal lawyer rejected a final plea bargain in her driving without a license case. Luckily, Britney was not behind the wheel on Wednesday afternoon. Her bodyguard was driving her to a vintage clothes store in Hollywood when he and a photographer’s car collided. “At appoximately 2pm, Britney was being driven in a white Escalade, when the paparazzi cut her off and one slammed into the back of her car,” a clerk at the store told Usmagazine.com. “She didn’t seem upset by the accident at all,” he said. “She wasn’t driving anyway and it wasn’t bad, it was just a fender bender.” Next week Britney’s trial is set begin on Wednesday. Spears rejected an agreement proposed by the Los Angeles city attorney’s office, in which she would have pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor, paid a $150 fine and served 12 months’ probation, lawyer J. Michael Flanagan told the Los Angeles Times. He suggested Spears was receiving tougher treatment than non-celebrity defendants.

Seriously … it’s like Britney Spears is not meant to be near motorized vehicles. Even when she’s not behind the wheel, accidents tend to still happen. Personally, I think it would be best if she just hired a full-time driver so that she won’t have to worry about being at fault in future run-ins (cuz you know they’re comin’). I understand that Brit went shopping at Wasteland on Melrose Ave. That place has some pretty cool vintage stuff and I imagine that she created quite a stir upon arrival. I sincerely doubt that anything really significant will come from next week’s trial but with Britney Spears, I guess you never know what might happen.
