Travis Barker, DJ AM Expected To Fully Recover

Thank goodness :)
September 21st, 2008

Great news to report today after the awful news yesterday … Doctors expect that both Travis Barker and Adam DJ AM Goldstein, who were the sole survivors of a tragic plane crash yesterday, will recover fully from their injuries. I cannot tell you how amazingly good this news is! Here is a pic of Travis and AM on stage performing a live concert in Columbia, SC just a few hours before their fateful crash on Friday night:

There is promising long-range news in the medical condition of air-tragedy victims Travis Barker and DJ AM. The medical director of the Georgia burn center where the two are being treated after their escape from a fiery plane crash around midnight Friday said Sunday morning that both critically injured men are expected to make full recoveries. Dr. Fred Mullins of the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors’ Hospital in Augusta said at a press conference that former Blink 182 drummer Barker, 32, and DJ Am (real name: Adam Goldstein), 35, are being treated for second- and third-degree burns. Mullins says recovery from such burns can take as long as a year but says that the men suffered no other injuries, adding: “Since both Barker and Goldstein are in overall good health and didn’t suffer from any other crash-related complications, a full recovery is expected.” As for a timeline, though he said recovery could require a year, Mullins also noted, “I would expect it would be much sooner than that.” Mullins says Barker was burned on his torso and lower body, while DJ AM, was burned on his arms and a portion of his head. The doctor described both as remaining in critical but stable condition and in the intensive-care unit of the hospital. Regarding their emotional state, he declined to discuss specifics, but said of burn victims that “45 percent of all patients have some emotional trouble.”

While I am heartened by the news that the guys are expected to “fully recover”, I am concerned about their long-term healing process, tho. A year is a long time to endure a recovery regimen … I hope they both know that they’ve got a lot of people supporting them in their time of need. I am extremely thankful that the news isn’t worse … I look forward to the day when both men are able to be back on stage, doing the thing that they love most — performing.

I must mention how pretty disgusted I am with the way TMZ has been handing some of their reporting on this tragic accident. Last night, they posted a “tragic twist” tale on their site claiming that the reason a chartered private plane was used on Friday night was so that one of the deceased passengers, Travis’s assistant Chris Baker, could fly home to be with his wife who was “in labor” giving birth to their child:

Travis Barker’s assistant wanted to get home in time for his pregnant wife to give birth. We’ve now learned why Barker and his friends decided to get on that doomed lear jet in South Carolina late last night, and the explanation can only be described as a horribly cruel twist of fate. It all started some time yesterday, when Barker’s assistant, Chris Baker, told the guys that his wife was going into labor. Barker told him that he would do everything in his power to get Baker back to the hospital in time. The quickest way back to Van Nuys was that lear jet. We’re told Barker usually won’t fly on private jets, but made an exception for what was supposed to be one of the happiest moments of Baker’s life. The plane crashed shortly after midnight, killing four people — including Chris Baker. Baker’s wife went into labor early this morning.

This report was immediately refuted as a complete fabrication. Baker’s wife was not in labor … but I’m really bothered by the fact that TMZ decided to post the story anyways — even if true, what good reason did they have to exploit this “tragic” development? The story has been removed from TMZ’s website but I gotta say that I am really grossed out that they would even decide to post such a story in the first place.

I wish the best and speediest recovery to both of them. They seem like truly nice guys, and even though I’m not into either of their music, I am so glad they survived!

  2. Diana Says:

It’s great that they are recovering but we can’t forget that 4 other people, someones father, daughter, brother, died in the accident.

It doesn’t suprise me that TMZ would do whatever they could to sensationalize on ANY celebrities tragedy. I hate TMZ. It’s paparazzi trash like that, that lead to the death of Princess Diana and that drives celebrities to hating their lifestyles in the public eye. I’m glad you called them on it, that shows integrity on your part.

All my best wishes to the families of the deceased plane crash victims and to both Travis and Adam in their recovery. What a terrible tragedy. :(

Its good news and very fortunate that Barker and Goldstein will recover, but its a bit insensitive going on about how awesome and great this is, and going WOOT! over their recovery while 4 people have died

  6. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

Yes, 4 people have died, yes it’s very unfortunate but I’m not going to apologize for celebrating the fact that the survivors are doing well.

  7. Verodemort Says:

TMZ is so… vulgar! I stopped going to their website after Heath Ledger died- they were streaming video of his body being transported from the house to the morgue! I mean, a little respect, please! Jeeze! I feel terrible for the tragedy at hand, and I can’t even begin to fathom what it must feel like to have been in that type of accident… how would you feel if you survived but other people whom you loved didn’t? You would always ask yourself if you could have done more, saved them, ect. on top of the anxiety you would feel facing a long recovery. Terrible. The only solence we can take is that two people miraculously survived and that those lost will be remembered by their family and friends.

  8. Joanne Says:

Yeah - some sites feel this desperate need to add more tragedy to an already tragic enough situation. I don’t even go to TMZ (or that other guy who’s name starts with ‘P’ anymore). They make me feel bad. I just want the facts and some humour (if there is some to be found in a story) …

  9. Kelly Says:

If you are so disgusted with TMZ for posting it in the first place then why would you repost it for everyone to see, especially after TMZ has removed it? You are keeping it alive.

  10. Posh Says:

I feel so bad that four people had their lives taken, but I agree that it’s fine to be thankful that two survived.

  11. doveink Says:

Gotta agree with Kelly..you’re so “pretty disgusted” you are moved to have their words that so disgusted you, on your site?? Dude walk the talk!

  12. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

It’s not about propagating the story, it’s about making a point. Dude, walk this way.

  13. las Says:

TMZ sucks. And people, this is a blog so Trent had every right to make his point. Do some of you not know what a blog is?

  14. Prieta Linda Says:

Depending on the extent of the burns, 1yr is actually very promising for a recovery. I’m more concerned about the emotional recovery. Its not as easy to bounce back from something like this…I’m sure that they have a great support system though. …I think this is every American’s worst nightmare…the last time a plane crash took the life of a promising and dear musician was Alliyah back in 2000.

  15. Nicolis Says:

I laugh at all of you. After reading your entries I realised nobody even took the time to say RIP. all you guys talked about was TMZ. yeah, sure, they are rude for getting too personal in others lives when it isnt even their business. but you must not forget about the ones that HAVE died. REST IN PARADISE…my prayers go to your families

  16. Kait Says:

Burn recovery can take a long time. I have not personally gone through, but a family member of mine has. A year and a half after the accident he was still have skin grafts. He also had to wear a body suit for a year to protect his skin during the healing process and to help it heal properly. He is doing very well…physically and emotionally. He is about 7 years younger than me. He has the most amazing attitude. I admire him more than anyone else I know.

While 4 lives were sadly lost in this tragedy, it is good to hear that Travis and DJ AM are doing well and that they will have a full recovery. I wish them well and I wish them a speedy recovery (as speedy as it can be). My heart goes out to all those who were effected by this tragedy.

  17. doveink Says:

Justify it as you will man..your blog :)

  18. Joanne Says:

    RIP
