Sarah McLachlan & Ashwin Sood Are Dunzo!
Got some good news and some sad news for fans of Sarah McLachlan … on the upside, Sarah Mac is releasing a greatest hits album in early October which features two new songs U Want Me 2 and Don’t Give Up on Us … on the downside, those songs were inspired by Sarah’s separation from her husband of 11 years, Ashwin Sood :( Looks like they’re dunzo, y’all:

The two new songs on Sarah McLachlan’s upcoming greatest hits album — “U Want Me 2″ and “Don’t Give Up on Us” — come from an extremely personal place. “I’m separating from my husband, so these are the songs about that,” McLachlan told Billboard.com. She’s been married to Ashwin Sood, who plays drums in her band, for 11 years. The couple, who reside in Vancouver, has two daughters, six-year-old India and Taja Summer, 14 months. “I wasn’t planning on saying anything,” McLachlan added, “but it’s gonna come out at some point. I haven’t said anything about it because I’ve been terrified to, but I figure … there’s no good time to say it, so I just said it.” McLachlan called the situation “pretty gross” but did not elaborate on reasons for the separation or the couple’s future plans … McLachlan wrote both songs with her longtime producer Pierre Marchand. She described “U Want Me 2″ as “about that really uncertain, confusing place at the end of a relationship when there’s no communication or closure, everything’s still up in the air and there’s a lot of anger and sadness. It’s sort of that working through ‘How do we move forward … with some dignity and grace.” “Don’t Give Up,” she said, is “pretty self-explanatory, basically just a plea to give it another chance and keep trying.”
I know this is prolly pretty random for those of you who aren’t all that familiar with Sarah McLachlan but I’m a big fan and this is really bummer news. If I recall correctly, Sarah’s hubby Ashwin was also her percussionist on tour (they spent quite a bit of time together on the road during the Lilith Fair days) and they have one child two daughters (thanks Nicole). One of my fave Sarah Mac songs, Ice Cream, was inspired/written for Ash. I’m very disheartened to learn that her break-up from her husband is described as “pretty gross” :( I hope these new songs will help Sarah heal from the dissolution of her marriage … sad news.

I knew she was married but Sarah McL always gave me the lesbian vibe. Not that there’s anything wrong with it.

This is really sad news. Love her music and her work on behalf of ASPCA.

They have two daughters, India Ann Sushil, 6, and Taja Summer, 14 months.

OMG! I KNOW! I actually donate monthly to the ASPCA because of that really sad ASPCA ad that Sarah did for them … I couldn’t not sign up to give money to those poor animals.

That ASPCA ad gets me everytime as well. Now, when you say their breakup is “pretty gross”, what does that mean? Like, pretty ugly? Or details of the breakup are gross/disgusting in nature? I’m confused.

Sarah referred to the situation as “pretty gross” which I took to mean that the breakup has gotten nasty … which just makes the whole story even sadder :(

No surprise there since it is universally known that she is neither the nicest or the easiest person to work or deal with…amazed that it lasted this long.

I get the lesbian vibe too, specially from one ad she did for MTV back in the 90’s, I understand she’s bisexual so is not surprising.
she needs to get a woman now.

I have been a huge Sarah McLachalan fan since 1993. As a fellow Canadian, I have always had alot of respect for her. Sarah’s seperation is sad news, but I very happy she is releasing a new CD in a few weeks. Maybe we will be lucky enough for a tour. As for the lesbian rumour some people are writing about, does it really matter? It doesn’t matter to me, I just hope Sarah continues to live a happy, creative, successful, and loving life. Sarah’s personal life may effect her music, but it is not our business.

Actually, Ice Cream was written for her guitarist whom she was dating prior to Ash. She wrote most of the songs for Fumbling during her extremely long tour for her album before, Solace. During that time, she was dating said guitarist. I always wondered how he felt singing those love songs knowing they were written for another band-mate. Good times.

Ashwin had also dated one of Sarah’s friends and it was a stress on their relationship when they first started dating. She used to talk about it when she was promoting her last studio non-live album.

Pretty bummed :(

This is really sad news! I wonder what this means for her band if/when they next tour.

Got the lesbian vibe too and my fantasies are about to come true. Find that nice girl, Sarah.

Sad for her – but that ‘pretty gross’ comment was a worry … Interesting choice of words … it kind of puts a cloud over her hubbie that he may have done something dodgy. I’m surprised she put that out to the media when she could have used other words. hmmm? Anyway … I agree she needs a good woman!

I was a roadie MGR and photographer… Sarah and I had a moment once, sorry to say I did act the part to be sure I was, errr, really being invited… We all like an ego vitamin here and there, esp from people with options and notoriety, and the atmosphere on Lilith was nice, not just what happened on stage, however, that said…….. blech…
So yeah, yahoo, and “ya-gross” – but thats just me, i let other people B whatever, but it left me feelin kinda dumb, and very empty inside.
ha ha, I just reread that!
But I have to say that grumpy middle eastern sperm donor guy, the husband/drummer, was her beard, or skirt as it were.. I mean, everyone saw that she had, like, groupies…. Dyed in the wool Lipstick Lesbians who’d howl at “Icecream” wagglin’ their tongues like dudes, and naive teen aged straight girls all talkin about how magical it all was, getting stoned and laid, then the walk of shame where they’d come out doe eyed- paranoid and disgusted… The Lilith matriarchs would make nasty comments as they scurried away, and there went the magic, ha ha ha… Then Sarah herself would complain how none of these innocent ones she was attracted to would resist, and about how either their breath, technique, or passivity made it all a chore, etc.. never liked that tour much 4 all of that… blech….
