‘Project Runway’: Transform & Roll Out

ATTENTION: 'PROJECT RUNWAY' SPOILER ALERT WARNING
September 18th, 2008

So … we’re getting down to the wire on Project Runway and altho the Season 5 Finale Fashion Show took place at The Tent in Bryant Park at New York Fashion Week last Friday, we the TV viewing audience still have a competition to get thru before we find out who is this year’s winner:

Last night’s ep featured a challenge where the designers had to create an entire make-over outfit for a recent college graduate so that they can venture out into the world to find their first jobs. Not only did the designers have to please their college graduate clients but they also had to please the clients’ mothers as well. After the jump, find out who was in, who was out and who managed to successfully design a new make-over look for their client in the episode titled Transformation

OK … it must be said, shouted from the rooftops even, that my boy Joe from Detroit was ROBBED on last night’s ep of Project Runway. I absolutely knew that he was going to get the axe by how heavily they were focusing on him and his personal life … I was hoping against hope that Suede would be the one to get auf’ed from the competition but, sadly, he managed to squeeze thru and live to see another competition. Boo.

Don’t get me wrong … Joe’s outfit was hideous and poorly constructed. It was so fug, so out of date that it gave the judges the opportunity to pull him from the competition, in my opinion, a bit too soon. I think it’s very clear that Joe is a very talented designer but I think his problem was more a matter of judgment and sometimes taste. I agree, a suit does not necessarily equal professional. Had he gone with a print other than pinstripe (and crafted a much more flattering top, btw) he could’ve totally pulled off his look. I’m sorry, tho, but Suede’s outfit was worse in my opinion. Those sleeves? Lord! That jacket was something that Paula Abdul would’ve worn back in 1991 (HERE’s proof). In the end, tho, I hated all of the final looks … Korto’s was the one I liked the best, I guess, even tho I really didn’t care for the keyhole in the jacket. Kenley is so overdue for a hearty slap in the face. She has become beyond annoying … bitchy and childish, she totally irritates the crap out of me. I hope someone puts her in her place soon cuz I’m so over her already. Next week’s preview makes it seem that she dares to talk shizz about Tim Gunn?! Oh no, I won’t stand for it. I hope Tim punches her in the neck if she dares to talk back to his face. I liked that all the designers shared personal photos of themselves for the ep (except for Suede that is). They all looked so cute and innocent … especially Jerell. I didn’t love this ep but it was a’ight … well, except for the part where Joe got eliminated. I’m gonna hafta pour out a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer on the pavement for my fallen Detroit homie … I’ll miss him.

AND, since the top 6 designers showed collections at the Season 5 Finale Fashion Show last weekend (even tho we don’t know who the top 3 in competition for the final prize are), click HERE for video of the collection that Joe showed at Bryant Park last Friday. I only watched the video myself after I learned he was eliminated from competition … I liked his collection, it looked cohesive and very cool. What did y’all think of Joe’s collection and last night’s ep overall?

I totally agree with you, Trent..Joe did not deserve to leave!!! And Kenley need to get punched in the face..I LOVED how she was almost in tears when she found out Jerell won the challenge and next week, our girl Nina tells her off..WOOT! I love this show!!

  2. CC Says:

I think the reason Joe went is because he seemed the most out of touch with the challenge. The outfit was not only fug, it was an 80’s power suit.
As much as I can’t stand Suede, at least his outfit was somewhat creative and spoke to the person for whom it was made.
Kenley needs to leave. With every week, I find her more and more annoying. Maybe she’ll get hit by the Tim Bus next week. Let us pray.

  3. Diana Says:

personally i was glad to see joe go. he was AWFUL. he lacked taste in a few of the challenges…and was always talking about how everyone else was terrible- try looking in the mirror joe!
don’t get me wrong, suede needs to go next, followed by kenley….hopefully she’ll get booted w/ a nice swift kick in the rear…

  4. Rach Says:

I absolutely loved Kenley when the season started and now i’m just sick of her! She really is a one trick pony with her vintage dresses! Isn’t the whole point of P.R. so that unknown designers can get a chance? No one is gonna want to give her anything when they see how much a sarcastic bitch she is. I can’t believe no one said anything to her when her and her little mini me stood there laughing when they were talking to Joe. She’s there to learn and grow and she takes no advice from anyone and to mess with Tim is the last straw!!! However, I do think it was Suede’s outfit that needed to be Auf’d last night those sleeves will haunt me!

  5. Dianna Says:

i used to love kenley! now she just sucks at life with her rudeness

  6. Carmen Says:

    *cries* I LOVED JOE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m so sad he’s gone. GAH

  7. Chivonne Says:

Kenley is the biggest pain in the ass
I hope she goes next then Suede. He’s really annoying as well but I’d take his third person any day over her bitchassness

  8. Rachel Says:

I am starting to get REALLY frustrated that Korto is being overlooked week after week..Her Designs have been the most tailered and inspired by far. Did anyone else see when she WOVE A JACKET from seat belts…where’s the love nina & michael??

  9. Sheelala Says:

I just think it’s funny how no one likes Kenley. I will have little get togathers with friends to watch Project Runway and the last few weeks we have gotten angry at the TV whenever she comes on it. It all started when she laughed at Daniel (was that his name? I’m sorry I can never remember names) and she’s just gotten worse from there. I truly think she the least likable PR contestant EVER.

She makes cute clothes (that are all the same) but her rudeness and her sarcasm and overall lack of respect for the judges will get her kicked off, hopefully by next week.

  10. Niki Says:

I was hoping that Suede would get the axe last night, but now I have a new dream: that Kenley will get strung along to the end and be the last one cut before showing at Fashion Week. She is such an immature brat! You know she truly believes that she’s better than everyone else there, and I just want to see her get a slap in the face.

  11. Mr. Gyllenhaal Says:

I totally thought Joe should have left. From the beg he was the worst of the designers. I think Kenley should go and boy is she damn arrogant. I was happy that Jerrell won. His outfit was really good! Korto (my favorite) was awesome last night as usual. She is just flying under the radar until Bryant Park and then POW…She is going to win. I loves her. I can’t wait to see Kenley get her ARS chewed out by Nina!! Yippee!! You gots to love the drama!!

  12. Ali Says:

Joe did not get robbed! His outfit was horrible and the girl hated it. I do agree that Kenley took bitchiness to a new level though – she does need a punch in the face, but I do like her designs.

  13. betch Says:

I didn’t really care for Joe’s designs but last night he WAS robbed. Suede’s was so fucking hideous, Joe’s was bad but no where near as bad as Suede’s. I can’t believe they are still keeping Suede in the competition, he hasn’t had an outstanding outfit in all of the challenges, Joe has, it made no sense to get rid of Joe. And I too can’t stand Kenley anymore, she is so fucking annoying! Her little bitchy laughter and her “I don’t listen to Heidi, to Tim and I don’t look at collections” ok… then where the fuck do you learn fashion from? You’ve had to learn SOMETHING from SOMEWHERE, she is so delusional. I don’t know if I want Suede or Kenley to leave next ep… I think maybe Suede.

  14. MindyInAustin Says:

I too agree that it was time for Joe to go – that outfit was like the horrid things I first bought right after college out of the store that I thought I should wear for my 1st interviews and I think he just got stuck in that mind frame but I think Suede should have gone with him. She reminded me of Daphne from Scooby Doo! Jerrell is rockin it and Korto too and I even liked Leanne’s dress. Kenley just needs to get over herself and its hard to believe that she is so bitchy to Tim – hasnt she seen past PR seasons – Tim knows everything dumb girl!! I hope everyone reems her next week! Cant wait to see LL Cool J!

  15. paz Says:

When will they call Kenley out on her predictable “vintage” look? That stuff used to be different, until you started seeing that shit in Forever 21. It’s ok if she doesn’t want to listen to Tim, but she doesnt have to act like he’s giving her crap advice.
I used to want to see her show, but her ego would explode by being selected as the top 3.

  16. Froggie2004 Says:

The funny part of Kenley saying she never listens to what Tim says, is that at the very last minute she did exactly what Tim said she should–trim the tool from the bottom of her dress!!

I’m sorry Trent, I love you dearly, and respect your taste/opinion, but Joe was not robbed, he got exactly what was coming to him….the only outfit he rocked was the tranny one!!
Suede is next, but Kenley could use a kick in the neck for sure!!

  17. Saple Says:

    Bye Joe…. You had a great run….

  18. Jlopez Says:

Finally! THe judges have realized how talentless joe is!

  19. las Says:

I agree that Kenley is a royal pain in the ass. I had her on my final 3 pick but I have to say just her whining attitude is enough to make me want her out of there. That voice – ugh, could it be more annoying!

  20. GirlieGirl Says:

I can’t say that I hated Suede’s design more than Joe’s. I mean Suede was looking for a Pucci-ish fabric to make a Pucci-ish dress…. and it pretty much was.
I have a soft spot for Pucci for some reason…..

Kenley is annoying and bratty…. but (jeez, i hate to say this…) Christian was exactly a ray of sunshine. Yet and still… FIERCE!

  21. GirlieGirl Says:

That should be “Christian WASN’T exactly a ray of sunshine. Yet and still… FIERCE!”

  22. Tara Says:

Thank God Joe is gone. Ugh horrible things he has made. I am not sure what happened with LeAnn last night, she has been making some good stuff lately. Hopefully she steps it back up. :)

I used to love Kenley, now its painful to watch her and her attitude.

    Go Korto, Jerell and LeAnn!

  23. Kendra Says:

I was bummed Joe was kicked off, but for me he wasn’t consistent throughout the whole competition..I like Kenley’s designs but I hate that I’m really disliking her attitude! I really want to keep liking her but she’s making it very difficult..Though, in her defense, when it showed her and her mini-me laughing on the runway, it looked TOTALLY edited..I doubt she was laughing at that time..These reality shows do that all the time..

  24. MelMel Says:

I didn’t get to watch the show last night.
    :(
I did catch that Joe left though. In my opinion, it was overdue. But he went out with grace and class and I totally dug that. Good for him. I did look at his collection. It didn’t overall blow my mind but he had some pretty hot pieces! Glad he got to show, period.

Kenley, Kenley, Kenley. What a f*cktard. I’m so over her. I hate myself for cheating, but I did. I looked at ALL the final collections. And I hate to say it but her collection…..looked the best. Trust me, I hate myself for admitting that. I’m going to go poke my eyes out now.

  25. Ben Says:

I LOVE kenley! She just needs to control her laughter. Don’t even get me started on how easy it is to make her look as bad as they’re making it out to be. Reality t.v. didn’t just start yesterday friends, we know this, it’s called a “bitch edit”. Joe was there WAY too long. He and Stella should start a Fug Clothing Line together. I hope the final 3 are Kenley, Suede and that quiet girl!

  26. Michelle Says:

I missed the episode. Is that Amanda Lorber from the MTV show The Paper? I love her!

  27. Verodemort Says:

Sorry Trent, but Joe was LONG overdue! I didn’t think he had personality and he didn’t have anything anywhere remotely new or innovative to show, the entire show. I do agree that Suede had the FUGlier outfit, though it was what his client thought was hot, and Joe’s girl OBVIOUSLY hated her look. I am a bit peeved that Suede is still there though! WTF up with that?! Suede hasn’t made a decent outfit since the Natalie Portman Challenge. I blame Kenley’s bitchy, sucky ass unprofessional attitude to her unfortunate Aquarius sun sign (I usually don’t like aquarius women) but I do like her designs and her taste. Jerrel’s look was beautiful, I think he hit it out of the park, as well as Korto’s look. LeAnne’s was boring, but I still love her. I stand by my prediction that Korto and LeAnne will be two of the final three, with Kenley and Jerrel cat fighting it out for third place.

  28. Verodemort Says:

ps. I didn’t like Joe’s collection either, I mean AMERICANA? Seriously? I did like that one black leather bustier, that was hot, but other then that….

  29. nicole Says:

i’m so disappointed in Kenley. i used to ADORE her. she was my favorite in the beginning. i thought her style was awesome and her designs were amazing… but now i just can’t see past her.. and her EGO. she’s so into herself it’s getting ridiculous, and honestly can’t take criticism and thinks she REALLY knows what shes talking about. puh-lease… if she really WAS that good, then she wouldn’t need this competition to jump start her career. she needs to shut up for a second and LISTEN. i cant wait for next week’s ep. it looks like they finally put her in her place! sheesh.

  30. Jozee Says:

I’m so over Kenley. I mean based on looks during the season opening, I was rooting for her. She looked like someone who’s style was a nice blend of vintage meets modern. Now all I can see is this nasty attitude. I can’t wait until the reunion ep when when get to see Tim’s reaction to some of her “confessionals” where she basically said she doesn’t listen to Tim at all. I really want someone to bitch slap her.

I felt bad for Leanne. I thought her usually creative vision was lost on this challenge because of her “clients.” I can’t imagine anyone wanting their child taught by someone who wanted to accentuate their chest.

When it came down to it…I did want Joe to go. At least Suede’s client LIKED her outfit. And I hate that the judges didn’t even ask her opinion. I don’t by any means like Suede and the jacket was FUG but the client liked it and that’s what mattered.

Joe’s collection didn’t suck though. Perhaps he just doesn’t do well in a high paced challenge fashion universe.

  31. SCC Says:

I totally think Joe needed to go. He was out of touch with current fashion and had nothing new to offer. Looking at his collection definitely proofs it because it is FUG! As for Kenley, she has GOT to go! I’m sooooo over her and her attitude, and her tulle.

  32. efulz Says:

Kenley gets told off next week???? I am NOT missing that!!!!

  33. cinderella Says:

okay so suede NEEEEDS to go!!!! seriously, the third person name-calling is so beyond out of his league!!! and WTF was that jacket! im sorry, it was something the poor thing could have purchased on the fall clearance rack in Sears- he clearly lacks taste!

  34. Diana Says:

Can I just say, that as someone who is 22 and getting into the professional world, I wouldn’t wear most of these outfits? I love to make my outfits as cute as possible and add personality to them, but do any of these designers realize that in a professional job (office work, teaching, etc) your skirt can’t really be more than 3 or 4 inches above the knee? All I’m saying is that we can still have style without the shorter skirt. I love short skirts but I wear them on the weekends. – D

  35. Madie Says:

kenley… her voice makes my ears bleed. self absorbed egotistical little girl. And why is Korto being overlooked each week? She is fabulous every single week.

  36. Katie Says:

    Joe’s collection sucked.

  37. kar Says:

i agree with diana. i am a 21 year old recent college grad looking for a job and some of those outfits could not be worn to interviews or to work with the skirts so short. i think leanne and jerell’s were the only two that actually had the purpose of the challenge in mind. i would argue that joe did as well, but his garment, unfortunately, turned out frumpy-looking.

  38. Frannie Says:

I liked Joe’s collection, but Leanne’s was my favorite!!!!! I thought Suede’s was awful and I was disappointed by Kuoto’s (sp?). Jerell’s was good and Joe had some good pieces, especially the red skirt and bustier, but Leanne’s was amazing. You can check out all the designs on NYMag.com

  39. SuperWife Says:

    1) I was sad to see Joe leave, however I was underwhelmed by his collection in that video

    2) Suede has been growing on me… he is annoying with the 3rd person talk, but I can tell he’s a really nice guy and not a bastard.

    3) Kenley, however, is a total C-unit and although I used to totally be rooting for her I hope she gets humiliated by Nina Garcia and sent on her way.

I felt like nobody brought their A game this episode :(

  40. Sarah Says:

1.) I’ve long been a Joe fan so I was disappointed to see him go. His outfit was awful but I really wish he wasn’t eliminated. :(
2.) I’ve also been a fan of Jerrel for a long time and I really liked his outfit so I’m delighted to see him win again. :)
3.) Why isn’t Suede gone yet?? I don’t understand it – he’s not that good of a designer. I don’t think I’ve ever really liked anything he’s designed.
4.) Poor Leanne. I love her but she made a dud this week. She’s a great designer so it’s sad to see her flunk like this.
5.) Korto – another favourite of mine – made a great outfit. Like you, Trent – I’d have preferred the jacket without the keyhole but it was great.
6.) Kenley, Kenley, Kenley… I dislike her intensely. She’s been grating on my nerves since week 1 and it’s just getting worse. Hopefully the judges and Tim (my glorious Tim!!) will kick her ass out of the competition next week.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Leanne – Korto – Jerrel — my dreamy final 3!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tim Gunn rocks. End of! ;-)

  41. Prieta Linda Says:

I totally Agree Trent…Tim should punch her right in the jugular!!! I thought she was so rude and full of herself…and yes I too was beaming with pride when she didn’t win…JUSTICE! Its a pity though…cuz I do like her clothes. Poor Joe…I was so rooting for him!!!!

  42. trixie Says:

IMA SLAP KENLEY IN THE FACE. What is wrong with that child!? I HATTTTTTTTTTE her. The fact that she found a mini-me was absolutely appauling. The girl was super cute and could do so much better than following in the footsteps of a rudely giggling kenley. I love how she can giggle at the misfortune of others but as soon as someone as wonderful as Tim Gunn gives ANY constructive criticism, she’s on a rampage.

    What a douche.

That’s all I have to say.

  43. Kaylee Says:

Hey, have you noticed that the first guy that was eliminated (I think he was a bigger guy) said he wanted to win Project Runway so he could show his daughters that they could accomplish their dreams and then Joe said it on this episode and he went home.

What the heck Bravo? Do they not want little girls to think that their dreams can come true?
