Last night’s episode of Project Runway really turned it out, I think. As we learned in the preview shown at the end of last week’s ep, the designers were challenged to design a look for a bona fide fashion icon — the amazing Diane von Furstenberg:

While PR usually does a great job bringing out the cool celebs for guest judging, they sometimes also inject a real moniker of actual fashion genius … having an ep devoted to a challenge where the contestants had to design a look worthy of Diane von Furstenberg‘s own collection was pretty remarkable to me. After the jump, find out who was in, who was out and who stepped up to prove that they are worthy to work with the likes of DmuthaeffinVF in the episode titled Double O Fashion …
THANK JEBUS ABOVE! STELLA FINALLY GOT THE AXE! I just knew that her time would run out eventually and, to be honest, she lasted a lot longer than I thought she would. Personally, I think she managed to fly under the radar for far too long … only proving that there were actually worse designers than her on the show — a scary thought ;) LeAnne won her second challenge in a row … she has also been flying under the radar but in a good way. There is no way to deny her talent now:

You knew from the start that Stella was dunzo … they showed too much of her early on and when it was revealed that they would be working for DVF, well, I knew that Ms. Diane was gonna put an end to Stella‘s PR career. In the end, tho, she went out on her own terms … she created a look that was deffo Stella (a very vampiricly scary look, I might add) and she shouldn’t be ashamed that she got cut. In full leather gear, Stella went out with guns blazing … props to her. It pains me to admit that crazy Blayne did a great job … I kinda liked his outfit, in fact, I had a hard time deciding between his look and Korto‘s look as my fave. He may be out of his mind, he may be in love with Mary-Kate Olsen but he managed to put together a pretty cool look in last night’s ep. Dare I say that Suede has run out of steam? He may have won early on but his work has been going down the tubes in the last few eps … he may be the next to go I think. I love Kenley, her crying was kinda cute but she really didn’t rise to the challenge. Her print dress was very nice … but not enough. She did manage to sell the design in the judging process … she was able to shut Heidi‘s comments up and get the support of DVF — props to her. Joe, my boy Joe … this was BY FAR his ugliest design. I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come … cuz I would love for a Korto, LeAnne, Joe showdown at Bryant Park. I’m saying it now — for the record — I think Korto and LeAnne will make it to the finals … whether Joe will fill the final slot remains to be seen but I really believe my girls are gonna go all the way.
I can’t believe it, I’m actually excited about this new season … and it only took 8 eps for me to get there. Huh. So … what do y’all think?
PS: I’m looking forward to Nina Garcia‘s return next week … I’m not sure I can take more of the Ninalessness ;)

Trent, I love love love you, but Joe is LAME not to mention not very well crafted, and Blayne’s outfit was HIDEOUS!! I think Suede, Blayne and Joe need to go next, I don’t care in what order. I could not believe any of them thought that DVF, complete goddess, would want to sell any of those funky ass outfits! I would have sent them all home for lack of effort! Joe sent out a half assed design!!! and he thought it looked perfect. WTF??! Stella did deserve to go, even though I love her crazyness. Have you noticed she is always so, dare I say gorgeous, on runway day? Anywho, It was hard to see a front runner a couple weeks ago, but my prediction now is def between Korto, LeAnne and I think Teri and Kenley will fight to the death for the third spot, haha. Jerrell is just too inconsistant to make it, even though I love him, he’s hillarious. Unless either of these two fine ladies seriously fuck up, I see them going all the way to BP. Kenley- I love her and her designs. Teri, she always makes the same shit- pants and a shirt- please make something new!! I loved Korto, Kenley and LeAnne’s designs the best tonight. and I still wished Korto would smile more, actually look like she enjoys being there!
Agreed! I can’t take it without Nina much longer! She’s needed badly! It felt like Michael couldn’t hold the judging panel on his own! I liked Diane and Fern (my favourite guest judge) coz they always have interesting and intelligent things to say! They give knowledgeable and informed comments.
The good ones: Korto’s was my favourite but LeAnne’s fit the brief more. Korto’s brave use of the bright yellow showed that she’s just brills! Kudos to LeAnne for winning twice in a row, especially when she had immunity. Don’t think anyone else did it like this. I did initially have reservation for the colour blue she chose. Luckily she didn’t come up with another matronly outfit for a Mama spy.
Kenley’s dress was OK. She fought for it. It’s nothing special really. There’s no design except a good fit.
Now the bad: Joe should have been out. Not that I would like all straight guys out (I Do!!!), but his design looked all over the place. The pink belt and the pink big-holed top? And the 2 tails of the top? What was he thinking? Just because he made a qi-pao collar he was kept. I thought Stella’s outfit was more “foreign affairs” than Joe’s daughters’ school project.
Blayne was good. His started to shine, hopefully. I knew there was a reason he was kept – hopefully he’ll rise more higher-liciously after this. The shorts were kinda crazy but they worked! Jerrell and Terri slipped a little this week. J’s blue belt wasn’t cohesive with the rest of the outfit, couldn’t be saved by the blue on the back.
Almost forgot about Suede! His 70′s wallpaper spy outfit. More like a 99c floor mat. The whole dress looked so ugly and boring! The model’s hip looked like it just exploded from hiding a row of bombs under her dress. The spy must have picked up the dress from Kmart and then the jacket from the streets of Germany and lost her way to Shanghai.
Dear God, what was that atrocity of Joe’s that came down the Runway? It honestly was hideous. I think the only reason he didn’t go home just yet was because he has won something.
I hope LeAnn, Korto and Kenley make it to Bryant Park. Though if Jerrel steps it up, Kenley will have to as well.
I LOVE STELLA!
I’m so sad she didn’t make it.
It’s basically equivalent to Austin not making it in Season 1.
GO JOE!!!!
I LOVE JOE <3
I only watch PR every other weekend when it’s a marathon, and I can catch up on the prior 2 or 3 shows I missed. :)
But I can’t wait to see this one. Stella, I thought, should’ve been the first to go. Like you, Sir Trent, it just goes to show how much worse the others were.
JOE IS HORRIBLE, MY GOD. His design aesthetic is so 1990′s department store! GAG.
Stella’s gone and I’m so delighted. She was never a contender. (PS – check out Tim’s blog on the Bravo site. He seems to agree she should’ve left a long time ago.)
Kenley’s attitude last night really p-d me off. However, her dress was fabulous – I loved the lace trim at the hem.
I actually really liked Blayne’s outfit too. Only from the waist up though. Those Hammer pants didn’t really do it for me.
Joe – oh, our beloved, controversial (on this blog) Joe. I personally love him but his outfit this week sucked. I’m still hoping he’ll get get his s*** together next week so he can go on to Bryant Park.
Korto’s outfit was stunning. She always produces great outfits. Still, the yellow brastrap shouldn’t have been there.
Anyone else starting to think Terry is a one-trick pony though? Sometimes, pants won’t always fit the brief.
Suede’s outfit didn’t work. He pulls out some gems sometimes but not this time. Think he might go soon.
Jerrel’s outfit was okay – I didn’t the bright blue belt around the jacket but it was simply okay.
Leanne – for the first few weeks, I barely noticed her. Lately though? Oh my lord – she is talented! She really endeared me to her last night too with her espionage montage and her talk about “Leanimal”. So cute.
My ultimate top 3 is still Leanne, Korto and Joe.
PS – I think we should set up a Tim Gunn appreciation page. I love him, I love him, I love him.
Kenley has been my favourite since about the first or second week. I used to not be able to tell Jen and Leanne apart, but i think now that Jen is gone Leanne has really stepped up her game, and is slowly become one of my favourites!
I’m hoping for a Kenley/Leanne showdown at bryant park!!
Jerrell!!!!!!!
I love Korto’s designs a lot and I thought she should have won this challenge instead of Leanne. The dress in the DVF amex commercial looked too much like Korto’s but I think that’s because the challenge this week had the contestants select materials from DVF’s studio. I hope Korto, Jerrell, and Leanne will make it to Bryant Park as the final three.
-I knew Stella would go sooner or later, but I didn’t expect for this one. I liked the concept (and so did DVF) but it was not well made. Joe’s was HORRID and desrved to go. Ugly and ill constructed. And Blake deserved to be in the bottom 2. Those shorts were horrid and not DVF’s style or Marlene Deitrich’s at all.
-I loved Stella’s parting words: ‘”My ego was too big for this show anyway.” I was never much of a fan of her work but I liked her attitude.
-WTF w/ Blayne thinking MLK was the fashion legend? A 22 year old is NOT a legend of anything! He needs to go NOW. He is by far the most irritating character.
Oh my favorite moment of the night was by far Stella’s dig at Rachel Zoe – the stylist with the mumu. HAHAHA
I think Kenley is so adorible..I love her whole look. The dress was really pretty too.
I’m hoping for an all girl final – Leanne/Korto/Kenley. I think they are so above the guys in their designs. I know Kenley’s wasn’t that special this week but she is consistently creating great clothes. Gosh I love this show so much!
Jerrell? ??? How can anyone think he might make it? He is flying below radar, but I have not seen one good outfit from him!
Thanks to you
I definitely think LeAnne is taking it all the way. She’s the silent assasin. Joe’s outfit was whoreable, and although Stella is not the designer the other’s are, based o the look alone Joe should’ve been sent packing. DVF didn’t steal Korto’s look, remember the fabric they took was from DVF’s sample room, so all the fabric was from her fall collection. My husband is obsessed with this show, though he would never admit it.
hahaaha stella and her poor crotch pants
