Madonna’s ‘Sticky & Sweet’ Tour Backdrop Video: ‘Get Stupid’

September 16th, 2008

Madonna.com has released the backdrop video titled Get Stupid which is broadcast during Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet World Tour for those of us who have yet to see the show to watch it on the Interweb. This is the video that has angered a few politically conservative folks here in the US (for obvs reasons). Check it out for yourselves:

“Get up. It’s time. Your life! Your World! Get Up. It’s time. Your life! Your choice! Have got to say what’s on your mind … if you wait too long you’ll be too late.”

Madonna has had her say … what’s yours?

I actually think that celebrities should stick to the only thing they can do, entertain. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but these people influence the masses. And many of these people that hear them are to ignorant to even think any other way than they are told. Let the politics speak for themselves. Do your own research on the candidates and vote for who you will think will get the job done.
Celebrities please keep making music, movies and stinky perfume, but stop with your political diatribes!

  5. Matt Says:

I’ve met Huckabee before. We definitely don’t agree with each other on most things but he is really a nice guy. I mean even jon stewart likes him but disagrees so i’m going to say this is tasteless. I mean if the shoe were on the other foot and Toby Keith was comparing Obama to Muslim figures or Communist leaders he would be getting hell from the liberals.

  6. lindyloo Says:

Why the fuck wouldn’t celebs be allowed to air their views? are you better than them.
I thought America was the home of free speech, I guess i was wrong.
    republicans are fucking pathetic.

  7. Sam Says:

What’s pathetic is name call like a child (with a dirty mouth). You’re vocabulary and grammer are obviously limited.

I agree that celebrities should entertain, not preach to the masses. Their self-righteousness is tiresome.

  8. lindyloo Says:

    yawn
    typical republican rhetoric, double standards.
    please STFU.

  9. mo Says:

it always amazes me that so-called liberals spew the most hate speech of anyone. they claim they are tolerant-but they are only tolerant of those who agree with them. get over yourself lindyloo.

  10. lindyloo Says:

If you are a republican who is planning to vote for an old man and a homophobic anti-feminist dickhead, then what are you doing on a gay man’s website, if it were up to Palin, people like Trent would be second class citizens.
    WAKE UP!

  11. Matt Says:

This is a gay man’s website? I thought it was a celeb gossip website. Lindyloo, I don’t think anyone here is saying not to vote for Obama. I believe they are saying that the Madonna background in their opinion is distasteful.

  12. Madonnaloonie Says:

That’s so juvinile of Madonna, and and of lindyloo(natic).

  15. Tom Says:

Great video! Has the present old man not done enough damage, they want an even older guy..go to Florida and golf like all old people do… (Or go to Texas and suck George Bush’ s c… to quote Madonna!)

  16. lindyloo Says:

    Thank you Tom : )

  17. Tom Says:

Actually Sam, the correct word is grammar.

  18. Marjorie Says:

I feel like Madonna has made a career out of being offensive, especially towards Catholics. If she had true talent, she would not need to rely on being so excessively offensive to promote herself.

  19. PixieBassline Says:

did she run out of melodies? the “melody” was SO BORING…. it totally didn’t have an effect on me, besides boredom.

  20. Calgirl Says:

Madonna is a great performer, but anyone who listens to a celebrities opinion on politics just is not thinking properly. Read the facts and make the choice that works best for you.

I do give Madonna kudos for always being controversial. I do think she needs to stop exercising, gain some weight and act her age but what do I know?

  21. jeulz Says:

good for her for taking a stand we should all do the same!!! i don’t see anything in her video that isn’t the truth! and i’m not even a madonna fan. thats the problem not enough people will do what they believe in, but they are the first to bitch about the ones who do!

  22. Josie Says:

Celebrities such as Madonna should just be thankful that people still pay for their mediocre entertainment. I am so tired of celebrities throwing around their personal views. What works in your life may not work in your fan’s lives. If you are a truly educated voter, videos at Madonna’s shows will have no effect at the polls. Unfortunately, there will be plenty of easily influenced (well, idiots) that come out to support Obama. The sad part is, they are really supporting Madonna, not the candidate. Sad times we are living in. RETIRE Madge!!!

  23. Toasty Says:

Madonna is opening up her world/thoughts/feelings through music. How is it wrong for her to put together a video of what she believes is right and wrong? If you didn’t want to hear someone’s opinions/thoughts/beliefs, don’t bother listening to music, hearing people talk, watching television. Sheesh. I commend Madonna, that was wonderfully put together. The song was okay, but the point was made.

  24. . Says:

clearly all republicans are pissed off since the video is not in favor of mc cain…..if it was they wouldnt be talking crap. she is entitled so her opinion and if she wants to incorporate her political views into her music and videos there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. artist always incorporate their views and thoughts into their music. im sure you would be thrilled if someone was bashing obama in a video and wouldnt be making a big stink about like your doing now. typical republican!!

  25. NotBlonde Says:

If she were praising McCain, none of you would have a problem with it and I would dismiss it, as would any educated voter. It’s sad that you think there is a problem with Madonna expressing her ideas on the election. Nobody says a damn thing when people like Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt talk about how they are going to vote for McCain. Republicans are old, boring and generally willfully ignorant. That is why they fear celebrities being influential. They actually listen to them.

  26. robw Says:

Everyone has his/her own opinions. Madonna was right on the dot with her American Life video, but she took a lot of flak for it. Most times, people just knock her down for voicing her opinion as if she’s an air-head or just for fun or because they can. Trust me, she’s again ahead of the times with this video. There’s nothing wrong with taking charge to change the environment/world for the better. If you have problems with this simple message, go look at the person in the mirror.

  27. Tommy Says:

The video was so much more than McCain, that was just a very small portion… Anyone cares about the rest of the world (Mugabe in Zimbabwe, Situation in Korea, Global Warming, Endangered Species,…,…) That was all in that video.. At least she’s one of the few artists who dares to speak her mind.MADONNA PLEASE NEVER RETIRE!! The world is still full of ignorant people despite all your efforts…

  31. Jen Says:

I suspect Madonna was simply trying to make a point about the current state of the world (global warmng, world hunger, wars) and linking them to her political views. As many have pointed out, she’s entitled to voice her opinions in whatever way she chooses. Just as many of you are entitled to think she’s full of sh*t.

As a liberal Democrat, I agree with her overall message. But I also think it debases us collectively and individually to attack those who don’t think the same way we do. I may not agree with the conservative stance but I think it’s important to remain respectful and avoid sweeping (and derogatory) statements as much as possible.

  32. stillafan Says:

I have seen EVERY concert from Like A Virgin onward, and I loved them all. However, I was one of those people who did leave early. I was really disappointed in mixing other artists’ music (Annie Lennox) with her own. I can go to disco for that. If you like Annie’s muic than perform a cover. But what really did it for me was when the camera people cut away from her on the big screen because she began to lip synch too soon. I know it goes on, but that was just enough. Another thing, the sets, costumes, and choreography in previous concerts were always interesting. That’s why people like me would always pay far too much for a concert ticket to see her. She really fell below the mark. And much as I lover her, she is getting far too old to play the vamp on stage. It’s time for a reinvention on that front as well. I’ll probably go the next time, but will not play for a floor seat.
