Jessica Simpson Scores A #1 Album

On the Billboard Country Music Chart
September 17th, 2008

Congratulations are in order for Jessica Simpson this week … her just released first-ever Country Music album, Do You Know, has debuted atop the Billboard Country Music Chart and comes in at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart:

Jessica Simpson has good reason to celebrate. The pop star-turned-country crooner’s new album, Do You Know, debuted at the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. It also secured the No. 4 spot on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart today. “I’m extremely touched by the overwhelmingly positive response to the album,” says Jessica. “There is so much honesty and raw emotion in there. And, I’m just thrilled that country fans are giving it a chance!”

I think congrats are definitely in order! We all know that Jessica Simpson is not used to enjoying success at the top of the Billboard charts so this is quite an accomplishment. I think Jess has really found her niche … three cheers for Jessica Simpson: Country star!

She deserves no praise. She’s a skanky, right-wing ho bag!

  2. Mr. Gyllenhaal Says:

Good for her!! I think it is awesome.

  3. Sasha Says:

I bet there’s very little competition for her to be top of the Country charts this week…no Carrie, no Faith, no Taylor, no Kelly, no Reba…the list goes on!

  4. Heather B. Says:

This only encourages her to make more music. God people!

  5. Kara Says:

    Stop hatin! Good for her.

  6. LadyVA Says:

Yay!!!!!!!! Go Jess!!! I’m super excited for her; she deserves this.

  7. LOVECarrie Says:

Uh, no. I was going to give her a chance, but those horrible live performances were brutal. For the record, the only country albums released the same day were Patty Loveless and Hal Ketchum. I only know of Patty…surprised she didn’t take it, but it was more old-style country. Next week is Darius Rucker (yes, of Hootie and the Blowfish!) The real test is at the end of the month, when both Faith and Kellie Pickler’s albums are out. For me, EW summed it with this line: Jessica Simpson: The Next Carrie Underwood, or the Next Jessica Simpson. As the folk down here say, “aw, bless her heart.” :)

  8. Kendra Says:

Personally, I can’t stand her voice..But it’s good to see her successful at something since her career has been in the poops since Newlyweds..

  9. Josh Says:

I’m so happy for her, she deserves it. The album is awesome. Even the New York Post wrote that she deserved a grammy for it. Btw I like Kellie Pickler but if you have noticed Jessica’s singles have done better than the one single Kellie has released.

    Good Job Jess!!!

And thanks Trent for posting the good news :)

  10. Elle Says:

Oh yeah right. I’m sure she bought all the damn CDs or her label did. She is so fake and I don’t want her to succeed! Just watching her on the Opry she randomly starts talking with this overly Southern accent and then it goes away. She never talked like that before, but she’s just trying to be more country than she ever was. Fine she’s from Texas so she can classify herself as that, but she never really was all that country.

AND, she only came to country because she can’t succeed anywhere else. She’s a terrible singer and I wish she would just go away. I wonder if she will try rap WHEN the country doesn’t work out.

  11. LOVECarrie Says:

LMAO! Grammy??? I think not. For the record, Kellie Pickler has had more than one single. Red High Heels did fairly well…and Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful (her latest) is doing well. It’s actually beating Jess on the GAC and CMT countdowns.

I wish her luck, but this move feels so forced (IMO).

  12. ella Says:

Well, I don’t like it at all but at least she’s number one for at least a week.

  13. Janelle Says:

while i congratulate someone on success…. this sucks. NOT a fan of her. i truly don’t believe she started out with a country soul whatsoever. the ’stupid’ and airhead act can only take you so far, and it doesn’t have a place in country music.

  14. A Says:

I must concur with Elle, first off.

Secondly, I’ll be impressed if it’s still in the top 10 after 2 weeks. It sold 65,000! Isn’t that what A Public Affair sold?

I want to be happy for her, but I’d really like to just smack her and say “STOP TRYING TO PLEASE OTHERS!”

  15. Jesse Says:

    eww.

  16. Monica Says:

She is a wannabia and country music doesn’t want her. Sorry the teeny boppers got their allowance this week

  17. nc Says:

I’m glad for her. Even though I’m not a huge fan of all of her music, she’s a much better singer than many of the other popstars out there.

  18. Joanne Says:

Good for her - but her performance on The View was just painful to watch. It was so forced and she tried to be all edgy and dramatic … It made me cringe! If she is going to sing at all she should be doing pop music. If she had fired her Daddy and surrounded herself with the right people, her pop career would have worked out. This screams of a last ditch effort.

  19. badiggio Says:

Tell me,how does selling 65,000 copies,HALF of what her last cd sold, which bombed,is considered a success?Any way you look at it ,whether it’s #1 or 200,it’s another failure and worse than the last.

  20. lolarennt Says:

From what I can tell the radio stations, including satelitte are pushing her songs, but everyone I know that listens to country hates her stuff.

Eventually, she’ll realize that she’s a no-go for country as well as pop and she’ll have to re-invent herself again. Maybe we’ll see gangsta rap Jessica one day.

  21. Stanley Meyer Says:

First, learn as much as you can about forex before you even consider EW. To have healthy and clean teeth, doesn’t really require EW to do. Someone can not be substituted when it comes to this move.

  22. Mensenkai Says:

It bombed. Just because she is classifying herself as a country singer now people are considering this a success? 65, 000 is nothing to be proud of. Being Jessica Simpson is nothing to be proud of. I don’t know why people can’t see through this PR b.s. Seriously.
