‘It Just Goes To Show That Anyone Can Be President’

Live, from New York
September 14th, 2008

Folks, please tell me that you caught the opening skit on the season premiere of Saturday Night Live last night … cuz, if you did then you know it was the funniest thing ever. If you missed it, check it out below:

Amy Poehler was great as Hillary Clinton but Tina Fey was EFFING brilliant as Sarah Palin. The voice! She killed me with that shrieking voice! SNL has a reputation for really funny political humor and amazing impersonations … this skit was just perfect for me. Tina rules, well done. Do you not just love this skit?

It was hilarious!!!! i love tina fey!

  2. Amber Says:

Loved it!!!! I was lmao by the end.

  3. Sarahliquid Says:

Tina nailed Sarah’s voice, Amy sucked at being Hillary. It was really funny and didn’t bash either side too hard. Very enjoyable.

  4. jc Says:

That was brilliant and they were both hilarious…especially Tina Fey. Dead on. There was so much truth in that skit too. The media is no less sexist toward Hillary yet the public is more sympathetic towards Palin.

  5. jc Says:

…and btw, Phelps was terrible…just terrible.

  6. Rachel Says:

This was great!! Both Amy and Tina were hilarious! Tina could not have had a better Palin voice!!

  7. Gayle Says:

I totally loved it! Tina was perfect as Palin.

  8. Kelly Says:

I KNEW Tina Fey would be back to play Sarah Palin – it’s freaking BRILLS and soooo dead on. Seriously – Tina was killin me with that voice! LOVE IT!

  9. D-Boogie Says:

Im wondering why they were RECYCLING SKITS!!!! The whole locker room thing, it was done with Payton Manning when he was on. The whole ugly kid thing? That was done before, to the T. I stopped watching after that…I’m surprised this show is even still on the air.

  10. megan Says:

video is no longer available :-(

  11. Jenn Says:

Megan, the video is still there. I just watched it.

  12. pooneck Says:

tina fey was brilliant. spot on as usual! the rest of the show was boring. but, oh well. phelps is just blah anyway. another excellent athlete with nothing else to really offer. i have been watching SNL since childhood and i guess i still watch it because it is kind of like my baby blankie. i can’t get rid of it.

  13. becca Says:

Do you know where I could find the promo pictures of Phelps that they had on air last night?

  14. Ibby Says:

Tina Fey was BRILLS as Sarah Palin! It was hilarious! That was the highlight of the show…and it happened in the first 5 minutes…poor Michael Phelps just needed to cut loose and get into it!

  15. Heather Says:

Jenn – the video was from YouTube before, which was removed. Trent linked it up to NBC instead, thankfully :)

  16. Puja Says:

This is what you call EPIC WIN.

  17. Katie Says:

    Tina. Fey. Is. Amazing.

    Enough said.

  18. A-Punk Says:

That was not Tina Fey…it was actually Sarah Palin playing TIna Fey playing Sarah Palin. That skit was hilarious

  19. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

SERIOUSLY … it was so dead on, Tina Fey rules :)

  20. Wendell Says:

It was the perfect opening of the season. Love it!!! As for the comment earlier about “recycling skits”, that is what SNL does. They always have recurring characters: Mary Catherine Gallagher, Church Lady, Wayne’s World, The Cheerleaders, Penelope, Donatella Versace, etc. That is how you establish character and keep people watching for their favorites.

  21. Kait Says:

    hahaha…it was amazing!

  22. Nicola Says:

LMAO! That was brilliant! I love Tina Fey!

  23. Roxster Says:

Tina was GREAT. And they found a creative, funny (and legit) way to address Palin on the ticket, I never would have thought of making “end sexism” as the angle, but its brilliant cause it lets them bring in Hillary in a funny way too.

D-Boogie…thanks for pointing out where they did the locker room skit before!!! It was driving me nuts b/c I couldn’t remember how they did it with before, but I knew it was ridiculously familiar. Overall, I felt the writing was pretty lacking. The only skits I thought were any good was the T-Mobile one and Dinner Date one (and totally cause of Bobby Moynihan, I love him). The scary kids one worked cause Phelps was obviously relying alot on reading the monitors and it was a perfect excuse for him to stare blankly forward. the Charles Barkley one was a disappointment. Darrell Hammon finally found an impression he wasn’t that good at, and the idea had a lot of potential but they they left so much on the table there. How could they have kids working the crew and not have Bella screaming about their teeth or making other parallels to his comments about the Chinese gymnasts?

  24. Dana Says:

The skit was well done, but the show was flat. and Michael phelps is getting such a bad rep for his performance on the show. It was his first time doing a LIVE show and the sketches he was in weren’t that well written. he’s a straight edge guy, but he should have went to MADTv and did something with bobby lee with his 24 sketches. those are funny. SNL isn’t that funny anymore.

  25. Allie Spears Says:

OH MY GOD!! That was PERFECTION on Tina Fey’s part!!! Thank you for posting that!! hahaha I’ve only TRULY laughed at like, 6 skits EVER on SNL, and that was one of them!!

  26. Roxster Says:

Dana — i agree on the writing part. he’s okay in commercials he’s done cause he has the time to prep, obvs its tough to have a less then one week period to memorize lines, especially when you’re not an actor. To add to you’re arguement, I’d say he did just as well, if not better, then most of the other athletes/non-actors they’ve had host in the past. considering the circumstances, he did well.

  27. D-Boogie Says:

There is a difference between recurring characters and using the same script. Seriously though, they need new writers.

  28. Kathleen Says:

Tina Fey as Sarah Palin was SPOT ON!! She nailed it!! And, talk about IDENTICAL twins…

  29. Kendra Says:

Just to repeat what everyone else said, Tina Fey was so perfect as Palin! Though as soon as I saw Palin for the first time, I knew she would be..Amy Poehler is easily one of my favies and I love when she does Hillary..I haven’t watched the episode yet but have it on Tivo..Yeah..I’m old and can’t stay up that late anymore! Whatever!

  30. Tammy Says:

    Tina Fey BLOWS!

  31. Kim Says:

Tina Fey as Sarah Palin was absolutely brills. One of the best SNL skits in years. Hope she comes back.

  32. Jamie Says:

    BRILLIANT!!

  33. Jen Says:

“And I can see Russia from my house”… LOL!! I loved that sketch last night and enjoyed watching it again today. I hope they bring Tina Fey back more often to play Palin… they will only need her til November anyway! :D

  34. Jan Says:

Tina and Amy were brilliant. Best part of the show!!!

  35. Cheryl Says:

Awesome! I laughed so hard!! Tina did a great job playing Sarah!

  36. Megan B. Says:

This skit was so awesome! Tina Fey’s short appearance was the best part of the whole show. I already had somewhat of a girl crush on her, but I love her even more now! :)

  37. Beck Says:

    OMG!!!! BRILLIANT!!!

  38. nat Says:

Tina fey was perfect! The hand movements and finger pointing, spot on!I just pray that after January 2009 there will be no reason for her to play this role-ever again!

  39. aimie Says:

I cannot say how much I LOVED this. So funny they both did great but I think Fey was literally channeling Palin. AMAZING!!!

  40. Lin Says:

    O Tina. Perfect.
I kind of hate Michael Phelps. Is that wrong? :P

  41. Megan Says:

Thanks for posting the skit. I love it!!!

  42. jessica Says:

haha yeah tina was *spot-on*… props to amy though, too, bc i love her hillary and i just love her in general

  43. Lisa Says:

    Absolutely f-ing brilliant!

  44. eeeeee Says:

That was hilarious and Tina Fey nailed it. I hope she keeps coming back as Sarah Palin … but only until Nov. 4 :)

  45. Joanne Says:

HA!!! Tina Fey had Sarah Palin’s chin and mouth movements down perfectly! Hillary Clinton must be having murderous dreams about that woman … for real.

  46. Mookalakkaheekee Says:

    Brills!!!

  47. Lady J Says:

Just to echo….absolutely fabulous! Tina Fey did an amazing job. Amy did a really great job as Hillary too, it was just a bit more subtle than Tina as Sarah, since they are identical twins and all ;)

Let’s hope this impersonation is not needed after Nov. 4!! Get out and vote people!

  48. Rawad Says:

    hahaha…
