Iceland, Iceland Baby!
Woot! We made it safe and sound to Reykjavik, Iceland early this morning. Even tho the flight was about 5 hours it felt much longer … not that we got much sleep. We got to the hotel at around 8 and had to wait an hour and a half for our room to be ready … which was OK cuz we had time to have a nice breakfast to get the day started. We opted out of napping so that we could salvage as much of the day as we could. We ventured out into the city and walked around for a couple of hours. I gotta say, it’s cold here ;) The wind didn’t help much but the beautiful shining sun did. It rained on us a couple of times but blew over very quickly and we managed to find shelter from the storm at a cute little cafe named for the Norse god Loki. Here are a few of our pics from today:

It’s unfortunate that the Hallgrimskirkja Church is undergoing renovations cuz the whole thing is covered with scaffolding … nonetheless, it’s still a beautiful sight to behold. We couldn’t stay out long cuz I wanted to get back and get some work done. Tonight we’re gonna find a nice place for David’s birthday dinner and then will be turning in early … we have a big, long day ahead of us tomorrow. Our 10 hour glacier hike/tour is gonna be awesome … or kill us, we’re not sure quite yet ;)
So far, we love it here … we’re having a great time and are doing our best to stay warm.

There’s good shopping at the airport, so don’t worry you’ll miss out on anything. (Although Icelandic sweaters might look a little odd in L.A….) Have a good time, it’s a fascinating place.

Make sure you go to the blue lagoon and spread that fantastic mud all over yourself. It’s amazing!

I wear my icelandic wool sweater all winter! I love it. It’s too bad the church is covered. I sang in that church 10 years ago for the Good Friday services and it was amazing!

Oh I’m so jealous… I went two years ago for New Year’s and have such a fabulous time! My boyfriend and I ate at some great restaurants and I am so mad that I am drawing a blank! Can you believe how amazing their tap water tastes?! I swear it is better than out bottled water. :-) Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Wow Trent, that’s so great that you’re in Reykjavik – I went 3 years ago (also at the end of September) with a bunch of friends and needless to say it’s definitely one of those places you might only go to once in your life, so… have FUN!
Make damn sure you hit the Blue Lagoon – it is totally totally totally FAB – when you’re there, make sure you find out what material is used at the bottom of the pool – it totally freaked me out!
It’s such an unusual landscape in that country, mostly lava-type, bare rock with a bit of moss growing on it. And there are, like, no trees there – only very short ones because it gets so cold.
But anyway enough of all that, I’m just excited for you guys to be there, that’s awesome, can’t wait to hear more about the trip (and happy two-five to your beau)

For how long are you staying? I agree with others, you have to go to the blue lagoon although its really expensive. To bad Sirkus has closed down you could have met Björk there on a good night….
Have fun on your glacier tour you should return safely if your on a guided tour the tour guides know what they are doing… : )
Have fun!!! Góða skemmtun!! ;)

It´s a shame that you cexould not go to the top of Hallgrímskirkja to see the weiw of RVK, You should go to Perlan if you like the wiews, but it´s shitty wheather here today.

That Glacier/Geysir tour is the BOMB! I hope you guys had fun – been to Iceland 3 times now and I’m going to keep coming back. If only for the hunky clean-cut yet inebriated viking cuties that are roaming the bars at the wee hours of the morning :)
