Go see the Aurora! I SO want to witness that first hand. You can apparently see them from Iceland so I would recommend it. It would be so freaking cool (and romantic as Dahlia suggests :P )

I know this place isn’t in Iceland but Finland is so near anyway. There’s this place, Kakslauttanen Hotel, which looks so dreaaamy, cosy and sexy. You get to live in glass igloos where you get to sleep looking up at the stars. It looks so romantic. Can you imagine watching the aurora borealis in a comfy bed with your honey.

My favorite part of Iceland is Reykjavík, being a city-child, but there is loads of fun stuff to do here :) I’ll recommend Thingvellir, where our parliament started in the year 930, a very nice historical site and very beautiful!! Hope to see you here… And btw, Kiefer’s rune tattoo is probably based on his love of Iceland, he toured with Rocco here a few years ago :)

whale watching, black pebble beaches, lunar landscape, awesome cafes, late nights, great shopping, loved loved the Art Deco Hotel Borg, city centre.

Blue lagoon definitely. recommend on way from airport to Reykjavik if arriving mid day.

neighborhood thermal pool: i went to Vesturbaejarlung, an easy walk from city center. like $7. great way to meet locals, very friendly.

Kaffitar coffee house-unusual concoctions, like expresso with lime and tabasco, surprisingly good!

if not renting a car, tours are worth it. i went on golden circle.

Reykjavik is soooo amazing! definitely go to the country like everyone has said, i have some absolutely beautiful pictures from my travels in the country side! Reykjavik also has some cool little shops. Have a great time!!!

hey Trent i’m from Iceland :)
It´s so cool you´re coming to Reykjavík.
Are you gonna rent a car or just stay in Reykjavik?
You have to go to the blue lagoon it´s really nice, then you have to check out the nightlife in midtown Reykjavík . If you are going to travel around the country Gullfoss and Geysir are very popular to visit, Jökulsárlón is extremely beautiful and there are many more places to go to it just depends on how long you’re staying and if you are going to travel trough the whole country :)
Have so much fun in Iceland, hope i run into you or something :)

howdy trent! i am a member of an organization called the couchsurfing project. it hooks travelers up with places to stay while out trekking the globe. while you don’t necessarily have to stay in someone’s home, you can also opt to meet with locals for a drink or coffee. it’s a great way to get right into the heart of a new location, as 99.9% of the members are effing awesome. you can have locals tell you where to go and where to not go (which is also handy advice). in my experience, CSers are totally interesting people, and often you find yourself in experiencing something completely unique and non-touristy. check it: http://www.couchsurfing.com

I certainly agree with bc on the hotdogs – they are what I miss most about Reykjavik. No specific recommendations for nightlife – but you can wander around and pop into any bar; everyone is so friendly. Certainly check out the Blue Lagoon either on the way there or the way back since it’s in Keflavik, near the airport. I’m so jealous, I’d love to go back!

You are making me homesick…while in Reykjavik you can go say hi to my grandparents! There are lots of interesting places to walk around in downtown Reykjavik with art galleries, cool shops, and lots of bars too. Not to be missed are the hotdogs-trust me on this.

hey trent and david— I’m excited you’re going to iceland—i was there about 4 years ago, and it’s awesome. Don’t miss Gullfoss, an incredible waterfall. Rent a car and go there—part of the drive is a pretty bumpy road through old lava fields, but the falls are worth it. Really an amazing point on earth. And, for the other end of the spectrum, do a few hours at the Blue Lagoon spa. The country’s small…we drove around the entire country in, like, 4 days. Reykjavik is cool, and has a sweet public pool heated by geothermal lava, and great waterslides. I think it was free, too. Not sure how long you’re there, but if you have time, get a day or so out in the country with a rental car; there’s some of the coolest terrain in the whole world—everything from mountains/valleys, glaciers, black lava fields that look like moonscapes, ocean, etc. Have fun; can’t wait to hear about it.

I would say the Blue Lagoon and I think there is a giant crater thing…can’t remember if it was in Iceland or Denmark though. You are going to have so much fun!! It’s a beautiful country.
