George Michael Busted In A Public Restroom … Again

What is with this guy?
September 21st, 2008

BBC News reports that aging 80’s popstar George Michael has been arrested for possession of Class A drugs (ie. crack cocaine) while in a public restroom yesterday in the UK. You may recall that Michael has experience with getting arrested in public restrooms, except the last time he got busted it was for “holding” another man’s biz … this time he got busted for just holding drugs:

The singer George Michael has been cautioned after being arrested in a public toilet for possession of drugs, thought to include crack cocaine. “A 45-year-old man was arrested on 19 September on suspicion of possession of drugs in the Hampstead Heath area,” a Metropolitan Police spokesman said. The singer was taken to a police station and given the caution for possessing class A and class C drugs. Home Office Minister Tony McNulty said drug laws needed to be “flexible”. Asked why Michael had been given a relatively mild punishment for the possession of class A drugs, Mr McNulty said he did not know the details of the case. But he added that the law provides a wide range of punishments for possession of drugs, and “circumstances and context” had to be applied. The Home Office website says possession of class A drugs can result in up to seven years in prison, an unlimited fine or both. Mr McNulty told the BBC: “The biggest message is that drugs are wrong and people will be punished, but it must be right that there is flexiblity in the law.” But the government has the balance “about right” between being tough when it needs to be and providing treatment for individuals “to get off that horrible spiral of drug dependancy and crime”, he added.

So … the lesson for George Michael here is that because he qualifies for “flexibility” in adjudication of the law then he doesn’t have to worry about being properly punished for his crimes, which I’m sure won’t do much to dissuade him from thinking he can commit the very same crime again in the future and, again, not get punished. Sounds like a winning plan to me. Don’t get me wrong, I like George Michael, but I think a nice hefty punishment (say, 7 years in prison, as the law states) might teach the man to behave in public restrooms from now on.

PS: It’s interesting to note that George Michael’s first public restroom arrest was in 1998, this one occurred in 2008. HMM … mebbe this is just interesting to me.

Maybe he was just celebrating the anniversary! Seriously, though, GM needs major professional help. I think his brain doesn’t work right.

That is a fucking hilarious pic of George Michael. So he loves defiling public restrooms, I mean, who doesn’t…

Um, is that pic from this arrest? Wow, what a pathetic story.
I met George Michael once – he was flirtatious (and that was even before he came out) but I guess he likes to flirt with all kinds though, even disaster apparently.

We went to see his tour a couple months ago here in Vancouver and I gotta say, despite his predilection for hard drug use, his voice sounded amazing live and his performance was one of the best we’d ever seen.
My (uneducated) guess is that he has some sorta dual-personality/mental health/addiction kind of thing going on… I don’t think going to jail for 7 years would help him at all. He needs counselling and positive reinforcement and stable relationships.

Anyone else would have been convicted – but he gets ‘cautioned’. It’s not right! I used to be such a fan … but George has lost the plot. I think a stint in prison is just what he needs to make him appreciate the lifestyle he has and stop taking his fans for granted. His partner Kenny must get himself tested once a week with all of George’s risky behaviour.

Hey Trent. I read somewhere that the laws are a little more lenient in London, but I don’t know what they are, exactly. Might be worth looking into.

Sigh. I used to totally heart George Michael. Now he’s just sad and pathetic. Boo.
