Gearing Up For Iceland
David and I leave for Reykjavik, Iceland tomorrow night and I realized yesterday that I didn’t bring a thing to wear in cold climates with me to NYC. I have a suitcase full of shorts and flip-flops … and a pair of jeans. So, I ventured out in search of some sort of winter wear and found just the stuff I needed at the North Face in SoHo. I loaded up on water-resistant, wind-resistant, cold-resistant gear that will hopefully make our trip to Iceland nothing but fun :) I got fleecy jackets and gloves and all sorts of really warm and durable gear for our trip … I’ll be looking something like this:

David and I have a 10-hour daytrip to go hiking and snowmobiling on a glacier and I didn’t even bring shoes … so I had to load up on everything. I’m excited tho, we are going to have a blast … I can’t wait.
Last night, David and I met up with his friends Lisa and Matthew for dinner at SoHo House which was very, very fun … Lisa is one of my fave people ever. She and I talked about going to Istanbul together … but one trip at a time ;)
Nothing fancy going on tonight, I think we’re doing a quiet dinner with David’s sister Eden. We talked about going to Fredrick’s but I think I might be up for trying a new place altogether. We’ll see …

You are lucky, you probably missed the worst fall weather, it has been wet for a month, but I actually saw dry pavement!!! :) Have a blast, hope to see you !

Good for you, Trent – way to keep the North Face in business – ha! :-) Seriously, have a great trip and please keep us posted!

You are going to have so much fun!! I am excited for you. Can’t wait to see pictures!! At least we have you at the normally scheduled time till tomorrow.

Great – I just leave to hear about Americans buying stuff they don’t need – ooooh – I left my warm clothes in Cal so hey, lets just buy some more. I mean, f@*k the environment, right? And hey, even if the ice caps are melting, I will have seen Iceland, so who cares? Think about what you consume before you consume it. Electricity was used to make the products you bought, fossil fuels were burnt to make that electricity – so don’t brag about consumerism – it’s so American and so repugnant. Raffer

Ps – a blog pretending to be about celebrities but is actually an excuse to write about yourself is so not cool – you’re not a celebrity, and like Perez – no one cares what you do – you are BORING
September 18th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Uh, yeah. You know you’re going to Iceland and don’t think to pack anything but shorts and flip flops? And we’re supposed to believe that? It’s fine to pimp out North Face. You make your money off advertising, I get that. But give us some credit for having some brains and not try and feed us some lame ass story. You travel constantly, who’s really going to believe you “forgot” to pack?
September 18th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
Maybe you should turn off the comments again. People don’t seem to understand that it’s your blog, and you can write about whatever you want. I hope your advertising is pay-per-view and douches like Raffer are adding to your paycheck.
September 18th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
Wow, angry people out there, jealous much? If I remember correctly, the Iceland trip wasn’t planned until after Trent arrived in NYC…totally plausible, something my friends and I would do also. Who cares if North Face is paying him, did it really hurt you that much?
Raf – Using a computer also used electricity, follow your own advice and turn off the computer.
Trent I hope you have a great time! Can’t wait to see pictures.
Ps – Raf, obviously this blog is interesting enough for you to visit AND comment, if you don’t care what he does, just don’t visit HIS site.

What is up with all these people? Why so much bitterness?
Have a blast, Iceland is out of this world.. The nightlife, believe it or not, is amazing… Look forward to the pics.
September 18th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
F..k the haters Trent! If you did not include personal stories in your blog I know I would not find it half as interesting. As for pimping out on North Face..that stuff lasts for years! I would rather you spend 200-300 on stuff that will be in perfect condition when you go on your 20th trip than something cheap that will fall appart on the first one. That’s consumerism at its finest -buy it cheap and throw it out as soon as it breaks.
Anywho, do not miss the blue lagoon-even if it is cold! And you should deffo plan a trip to Istanbul or Transylvania, with all the Vampire stories you have been reading.
September 18th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
Trent i am so jealous and all you hates can go f*** yourselves cuz Trent is the man! I love hearing your stories, trent. I am seeing sigur ros on saturday and I am totes gonna hit Iceland in the spring. Have fun and make sure you post lots of pics!
September 18th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
Wow Mel, you sound like you need a hug. Not cuz I need to explain but I did not know that David and I would be taking a trip to Iceland when I flew out to NYC last week … we decided to go a few days ago, which is why I only brought shorts and flip-flops to NYC.
For the record, the only advertising I get paid for are the banners and reskins that exist outside of the blog portion where I write. I do not get paid for endorsements. If I talk about something that I like or use it’s because I like and use them. I do give my readers a lot of credit because, for the most part, they are really fun, really positive people :)
September 18th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
Raf, you just sound so sad and bitter. You should get a puppy or something :)
September 18th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
I apologize Trent. Since you and David are busy people, I assumed that the trip was planned in advance. Not that it’s any of my business regardless. I guess I’m just used to other bloggers shoving adverts down the readers throats. ;) Again, I’m sorry I jumped to conclusions and I hope you and David have a great trip. :)
September 18th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
Is bashing trent really necessary? He mentioned a few days ago he and David planned this spur of the moment trip. Plus he is living in California now and may not have a new winter jacket anyway. I know most people get new winter clothing so why not Trent? Also when I vacation I always get some new things to go away what’s the harm in that? The comments on here are just ridiculous! Have a wonderful trip Trent!!
September 18th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Yay Mel, we’re cool :) I actually have a policy with my ad company to deny all requests for ad-sponsored posts or write-ups. I like keeping ad stuff totally separate from my posts so that there is no confusion.
September 18th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
Trent, have a great trip. I can’t believe the amount of people who have the time to bitch and complain about stuff that they clearly know nothing about. I really hate jealous people!
And I totally understand about the shopping expedition! People like you and I are great for our economies. lol
You and David keep safe. And maybe one day you’ll do a spur of the moment trip down under!
September 18th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
OZ is deffo on our list … we’ll get there one day :)

Word of warning: I went to Iceland three years ago in May, and several of the guide books I read indicated that the weather would be chilly, but temperate–SUCH A LIE. It was cold as all-git-out. It looked beautiful, but damn was it freezing. We ended up wearing virtually everything we brought at once (in many, many layers) for five straight days. We look like chubby snowmen in our pictures.
Otherwise it was a lovely country, and I’m sure your trip will be awesome. Have fun, and take EVERY BIT of that expensive North Face gear with you, and plan to wear all of it–at the same time.
September 18th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Trent, I’m beyond jealous!
We wanted to go there for the longest time, but it’s kinda expensive, and we’ve been saving up for a trip to the states, so we’re first going to handle that.
I wish you allll the best, enjoy some Sigur Ros and landscapes for me <3

i just got back from Iceland a few weeks ago- you will love it! it’s so beautiful! try the skyr- it is delish. the hardfiskur, not so much. also, the blue lagoon is not to be missed (just don’t look at the gunk that’s at the bottom). you will need good gear to do anythgin outdoorsy- the rain is tolerable, it’s the wind that is crazy. they should call it “Windland”.
September 18th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
i live in ireykjavík, i always thought it would be cool if you came here. hope to see you around.
for how long are you staying?
September 18th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
have a good trip :)
Hope to see you around.
If you guys get cold you can always buy more outdoor clothes but its really not that cold about 9-13°c but a little windy and rainy these couple of weeks. But Iceland is always great and expecially when you are a tourist, i live here but i became a tourist here this summer and it was awesome :)
again have an awesome trip and i cant wait to see the pics :)
September 18th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
Have a good trip!
And you haters… take your eyes elsewhere.
September 18th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
I did a snowmobile trip last time I was in iceland … are you going to snaefellsjokull (gold star for me if I’m spelling that correctly)? when we went it was cloudy and we couldn’t see anything at the top of the glacier!
September 18th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
Hi Trent, like I mentioned before, don’t forget to try a hotdog downtown…and I remembered a couple of other things too, Coke and Prince Polo candy bars go great together. And if you happen to be a fan of black licorice there is lots of that in the candy stores too. I think it’s been a bit windy and rainy this week, but don’t let it get you down, just brave the weather in your north face gear. You can see a great view of Reykjavik and the surrounding areas from “the Pearl”, or from the big church in the center of town. Wish I could go too. Have a lovely time you guys!

Trent. The spontaneous”winter” vaycay is such a cool idea. very romantic (I wish I could afford the time to do that). Iceland is very very cool (no pun intended). Your lucky you only have to wear your New Gear on this trip… In a month- I will have to wear like twenty layers of clothing starting everyday till april. Embrace the North Face! You better be taking lots of Pics. Sorry all the Hater’s are trying to bring you down before your trip. Have fun you crazy bitch!

My best friend lives in Reykjavik and I was lucky enough to visit her a few years ago. You’re going to have a blast. And the countryside is so gorgeous!
Can’t wait to hear what you think of the nightlife… heh.
Bon voyage!
