Eva Mendes Gets Controversial In Calvin Klein

Eva Mendes is featured in the new issue of Elle magazine posing sexily in the new Fall fashions by Calvin Klein. In the accompanying interview, Eva talks about her controversial CK television commercial that got pulled from the air by TV network censors as the article focuses on controversial fashion advertising overall … check out the hawt photos:

Is Eva Mendes the sexiest woman in Hollywood? Network censors may have pondered that very question earlier this year, when they ruled that 30 seconds of grainy, home-movie-ish footage of the actress wearing little more than a smudge of black eyeliner in a commercial for Calvin Klein’s new eau, Secret Obsession, was too hot for TV. (Not to worry. Mendes—albeit slightly less of her—will still be steaming up your flat screen this fall.) The original “isn’t shocking at all,” says Mendes, whose Sophia Loren contours will also, around the same time, be featured in ads for a new Calvin Klein Underwear line for curvier women called Seductive Comfort. “But it does have a really intimate quality that makes people nervous.” In other words, it’s typical Calvin Klein … The Mendes episode may be relatively minor as CK kerfuffles go (so far, at least), but it serves to remind us of what the company’s marketers happily call “the halo effect” of controversy. The phenomenon dates back to Brooke Shields declaring her indivisibility from her Calvins, then continued with the early-’90s Obsession ads of Kate Moss draped naked across a couch or staring soulfully into the camera, one barely postpubescent breast covered and the other entirely revealed, and Mark Wahlberg’s firm grasp on his Calvin-clad crotch, stretched high above Times Square.

Okay, so I’ve seen this controversial Secret Obsession television commercial and I can understand why it was banned … had it not been for the exposed nipple shot, I think the commercial would’ve been fine for the airwaves. This country is still not ready to expose women’s breasts on TV. After the jump, check out the Calvin Klein Secret Obsession commercial starring Eva Mendes in all her NSFW glory …

Sex sells and Calvin Klein knows it … as this Elle magazine article notes, they’ve been doing it for years. At least Eva’s sexiness has an air of classiness as well … I think her ads are artistic rather than vulgar … what do y’all think?

  2. Drew Says:

totally not vulgar at all! gorgeous photography, gorgeous woman, totally classy. time for the US to loosen up it’s grip.

  3. Ashley Says:

Did you see The Women Trent? I can’t remember if you have posted it or not. Anyways if you haven’t, it’s great and Eva plays the horrible “other” woman, but it’s a great role for her :)

  4. Anne Marie P. Says:

FREAKING HOT!!! She exudes all the Bardot we deserve…kudos Eva.

  5. Susan Says:

I would be okay with this commercial if it only aired on cable channels late at night. I would hate for kids to be exposed to oversexualization in advertising just because they were watching tv after school. There’s a fine line between protecting our nation’s children and “loosening up our grip.”

  6. JarEdina Monsoon Says:

I think she’s very sexy but at the same time, way overrated. I do admire how she is honest about not wanting kids. You rarely hear that in Hollywood. Gorgeous, yes. Worlds sexiest woman? Don’t think so. But then again, who is?

    those pics are gorgeous.

Breasts are a natural part of a womans body and there is no reason to be ashamed of them. I find it ridiculous that it’s forbidden to show nipples (and only womens nipples for that matter… discrimination!!!) on tv at the US. Nipples (mens and womens) are shown in many commericials over here in Europe at different times during the day. Maybe that’s why people here see the human body as something natural and don’t get overexited when being exposed to nakedness in everyday life. Everyone has a pair of hands, a pair of eyes and a pair of nipples… what’s so terrible about that? :D

  10. Paz Says:

The ad’s full of itself, as are all cK ads, but Eva looks great.
I hate how the U.S. is so uptight. Are kids going to be scarred for life for seeing women’s breasts? Which they are exposed to the moment they are born?
I like the pictures, especially the first one.
Eva is hot, but I like how in person she’s friendly and relaxed, and doesn’t try to be the untouchable, sexy woman that is portrayed in photo shoots.

This is exactly what i don’t understand about the american society… so exposing (part of ) a woman’s breast (for less than a second!!) is potentially shocking and disturbing for children, however they can watch tv shows, movies and play video games that show gunshots and murder…
The body is beautiful. I don’t get why showing a breast is so shocking: half the planet has them and we were all given life by someone who has them!!
And Eva is hot hot hot.

  13. censorship sucks Says:

Exposing? because we see a nipple like for five seconds! I hate advertising in general don’t get me wrong but this one has absolutely no reason to be banned. America is so conservative. Seing someone being killed is not an issue but a naked woman is?
