Beyoncé Does ‘Marie Claire’ Magazine
She wants to be an iconic legend, y'all

Beyoncé Knowles is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new UK issue of Marie Claire magazine … in her coverstory interview, Ms. B confesses that she wants to outlive the pop star shelf life and transition into legendhood. Yeah, good luck with that Miss Thang:

Forget mere celebrity. Beyoncé says she aspires to icon status. “There is a time limit on being a pop star, yes,” the Grammy-winning singer tells the October issue of Marie Claire’s U.K. edition. “Being a legend, an icon? Absolutely not.” “I’m over being a pop star,” Beyoncé, 26, adds. “I don’t wanna be a hot girl – I wanna be iconic.” Still, she admits to being frustrated with the demands of her career: “There are responsibilities that come along with this life … trying to have a romantic meal without someone sneaking in to film the whole thing,” says Beyoncé, who married Jay-Z in April. “I have to work really hard and it’s fine because I like it, I love it, but it’s a lot of sacrifice.” Acknowledging the challenges of being a minority in Hollywood, Beyoncé gives a nod to her own role models: “I think I’m opening doors for more black women, just like Halle Berry and Diana Ross opened doors for me.” The singer also expressed a sense of excitement for the political future. Regarding Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, she says, “I’m really proud. I think we’re making a bit of progress, it’s an exciting time. We all feel part of our country now.”

At least she’s modest. After the jump, check out some other photos from her Marie Claire photospread …

I suppose the woman does deserve props for having the conviction to go after her dreams so feverishly. She is an insanely talented person and I really do think she can go far in the Entertainment biz. Will she reach the heights of Diana Ross, well, that remains to be seen … she seems to think so. She’s got the singing down pat, let’s see about working on that acting aspect, B, and then we’ll talk ;) What do y’all think, will Beyoncé ever be able to reach legendary status?

    she looks like a robot.

  2. the way she stands makes it look like she’s missing a few ribs from her right side….

  3. MelMel says:

Mebbe. She’s gotta come with something that’s never been done before though. And she’s got to trade up to a serious-hard-ass-don’t-f*ck-with-me type image from the silly, sweet, sometimes cheesey (Ring the Alarm video anyone?) thing she’s got going now.

These pictures are sooooo not flattering….

  4. Tjh says:

She just might. Who knows? It helps to dream big.

  5. Mr. Gyllenhaal says:

The “we all feel like part of our country now” is so stuipd. Just because there is a black candidate shouldn’t make her feel like part of the country now. I am sure Beyonce really knows racial discrimination. Well other than the part of her that exhibits her own racist point of view. I normally like this girl but get a clue! So because I am gay and there isn’t a gay candidate or any candidate that is actually on my side should I feel not part of this country?!?! SO RIDIC!

  6. Brenda says:

That cover looks uber-Photoshopped. The two sides of her body don’t match up.

  7. commonsense says:

Hey Mr. Gyllenhaal i think your being a bit on the hyper sensitive side. She’s just making a comment that she is happy about a presidential hopeful.

I think she could definitely become an icon. She is so mainstream that people forget how talented she is.

PS. I hate to bad mouth one person to make another look good, but honestly how can we live in a world where Jennifer Hudson has an Oscor?!?! She had the easiest role of all time to play…I could pull off bitter and pissed off. Beyonce’s role required vulnerability and subtleness(not saying either of them deserved an Oscor but Beyonce did a great job and was totally overlooked). I will admit Jennifer Hudson has an AMAZING voice but her songs in the movie seemed to go on forever! By the time they ended I(and the 3 other ppl I was at the movie with) was relieved the song was done.

I think she will definitely make it, she is a true cameleon and just keeps changing into bigger and better things.

  9. Jenn says:

    two things.

    1. mr gyllenhaal is gay? whaaaaaa?
    2. ‘ i could pull of bitter and pissed off’ is the quote of the day.

  10. g says:

    mr gyllenhaal: I agreeee.

    jenn: duh. :)

  11. CBT says:

i think she can become an icon the way she’s going….
i thought she was pretty amazing in dream girls

  12. A says:

I didn’t enjoy Dreamgirls. At all. But, Jennifer Hudson wasn’t just “bitter and pissed off;” there was more to that role. Beyonce needs to experiment with portraying something other than a singer in order to be fully looked at as an actress…which doesn’t mean she’ll ever be more than just a good singer (re: Jessica Simpson). Though, she’s pretty dull in her roles already.

In this opinionated day and age, there’s no way she could become an icon. You know how people always say such and such show is ending, but their finale numbers didn’t come close to that MASH season finale? Well, there were only, what, 3 channels at that time? NO SHOW will ever come close to those numbers. It is my personal opinion that the word icon gets tossed around a lot anyhow. I think Madonna might be the last official one.

i think you all are haters. becuase beyonce is doing something with her life and she does not want to be all sexy and hoey. ya’ll need to go somewhere with all the dissin on my girl B…well anyways HAPPY B-DAY B

  14. Nicole says:

I agree with A.. shes almost always playing a singer… shes needs some other roles…cause when shes in a movie… im almost always bored of her character. and personally, over the past year, i got sick of seeing her everywhere, that i would change the radio/tv as soon as she popped up. she was around tooooo much. ( but thats just my opinion )

as for those pics. the first 2 remind of something Tyra’s done/would do.

  15. zahra says:

i agree with A. and nichole! girl needs to stop play a damn part that doesn’t require her to bust out into song in every movie she does! don’t get me wrong i love her music but it takes some serious hussle to get there, and some change in music style instead of staying static in one genre all the damn time! only time will tell with her! it might also help she stop photoshopping her damn face some much! i don’t even know what her actual skin tone is =S!

  16. Paz says:

I think she definitely has the potential to be an icon. Did you see her perform with Miss Tina Turner in the Grammys? Not anyone can do that.
I never thought much of her until I saw clips of her concert DVD. Then I was blown away. I saw her in concert and she was nothing short of amazing.
Maybe she wont be known as a great actress. Who cares? She definitely seems like she can be around for a long time.

And Mr Gylenhal: Your comment about Jennifer Hudson had to be the most retarded comment ever. Watch a clip of her performing “And I Am Telling You” and tell me you can pull that off.

  17. Paz says:

Oops sorry Gylenhal. I thought you made that inane comment. I mean commonsense. Sorry about that.

  18. Posh says:

I dunno. I’m not really a big Beyonce fan. Her songs are catchy and cute, but I think in order to be a legend, you have to put out something legendary. Her music qualifies her to be a pop star, and she seems to have a diva complex. If she could show her human side a bit more, I’d probably like her a bit better.

  19. Posh says:

Oh, and I agree that the ‘we all feel part of our country now’ remark was bizarre.
