Last night’s episode of Project Runway really turned it out, I think. As we learned in the preview shown at the end of last week’s ep, the designers were challenged to design a look for a bona fide fashion icon — the amazing Diane von Furstenberg:

While PR usually does a great job bringing out the cool celebs for guest judging, they sometimes also inject a real moniker of actual fashion genius … having an ep devoted to a challenge where the contestants had to design a look worthy of Diane von Furstenberg’s own collection was pretty remarkable to me. A couple of weeks ago we got our first look at 14-time Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps on the front of the new Kellogg’s Corn Flakes cereal box and today we get our first look at 5-time Olympic Medalist Nastia Liukin on the front of the famed orange Wheaties box:

Nastia, the third woman to win the Gold Medal in the gymnastics all-around competition, is the latest woman to grace the cover of the Wheaties box (which is known to feature predominantly male athletes of various sports) behind Mary Lou Retton and Carly Patterson. Lynne Spears’s new book Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World won’t hit bookstores until September 16 (a date I have circled in red marker on my calendar) but we now have shocking new information (at least to me) coming out today that is said to be revealed in this book. Apparently, Lynne makes some very surprising revelations in her new book about Britney Spears’s young life … revelations that, quite honestly, I find unbelievably sad:

Britney Spears’ mother is set to lift the lid on the troubled singer’s life – with revelations that she was drinking at 13 and lost her virginity the following year. Lynne Spears claims Britney was drinking not long after joining joined Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club, a U.S. variety television show. Mrs Spears also says her daughter lost her virginity aged 14 to an 18-year-old high school football player soon after she quit the programme. The sensational revelations were leaked to the National Enquirer ahead of the highly-anticipated publication of the memoir, called Through The Storm: A Real Tale Of Fame And Family In A Tabloid World. A source has told how Britney was dating the football star while at school, and how her mother encouraged the relationship because she thought it would make her more popular. The budding singer spent a lot of time at her boyfriend’s house and eventually lost her virginity there. Her mother later admitted she regretted allowing her to date an older boy but still allowed her to share her bedroom with new boyfriend, Justin Timberlake. Mrs Spears was said to be sure the teenagers were having sex. She did not raise any objections because she thought Britney was in love and Justin was good for her. The book also reveals that she knew Britney, then 15, was experimenting with drugs when she went to Los Angeles to record her breakthrough album ‘Baby One More Time’. She thought she was going through the typical teenage problems, but they seemed to be more than that, when the singer was allegedly caught boarding a private plane aged 16, cocaine and marijuana was found in her bag. Britney was caught by her mother drinking alcohol as young as 13 but she reportedly didn’t mind her children drinking as long as she was there. She appeared to have little control over her daughter’s party lifestyle, and by the age of 16, Britney was frequenting bars in New Orleans with her brother Bryan, who is five years older than her … A source said: “Lynne’s book does a lot of soul-searching on the mistakes she made raising Britney and Jamie Lynn. She says if she had known helping her daughter Britney follow her dreams would cost her her soul, she would never have done it.”

I am having a hard time believing that Mama Lynne would actually make these kinds of revelations in any book that she writes (or has ghostwritten for her) … to admit to being OK with her 13-year old children drinking alcohol “as long as she was there” to supervise is very surprising to me. Now, we won’t really know what the content of Lynne’s book is until the book is actually released … I do believe the bit that her book focuses on her reflection and soul-searching over decisions she made while parenting her young celebrity daughter, tho. I am very anxious to get my hands on this book so I can read Lynne’s words, for better or worse, for myself.

In Touch Weekly magazine has got some new info about the upcoming Hills spin-off show that will feature Whitney Port in NYC. According to the mag, Whitney will be leaving her job at People’s Revolution for a much fancier gig with the legendary fashion icon Diane von Furstenberg:

Whitney Port has moved from The Hills to the Big Apple — and there are big changes in store for the 23-year-old fashionista on her upcoming New York City-set spin-off. Whitney will reportedly leave her job with People’s Revolution for a new gig with legendary designer Diane von Furstenberg. “She’s such an inspiration, I’d be honored to work for her,” Whitney told In Touch at the 2008 U.S. Open/Heineken Premium Light party at The Empire Hotel rooftop. In the running to share top billing with Whitney on the new show is Samantha “Sami” Swetra, a 22-year-old manager at Bergdorf Goodman. “I just met her a few weeks ago, so she wasn’t someone I already knew, but she’s a sweet girl,” says Whitney. “She’s seasoned in fashion and we get along really well.” An insider tells In Touch that the fiery Samantha could be the breakout star of the MTV spin-off. “Sami’s the perfect foil to Whitney’s ‘nice girl’ image — she’s sure to add a ton of drama!” says the insider. “Her circle of friends are a whole different breed — very high-fashion, not beachy like the girls of The Hills.” Whitney’s show is not her only new declaration of independence from Lauren Conrad and company. “I’m developing a clothing line,” she says. “It won’t be like Lauren’s stuff, which I loved. Mine will be a little more high-end.” Filming on Whitney’s show started August 27.

You may recall that I posted a few pics of Whitney canoodling with a mysterious (and hairy) new dude on the streets of NYC and in front of the cameras on Tuesday August 26 (the photos were snapped the day before) so it’s unclear when exactly filming began on her new spin-off show. At this point, we don’t know the name of the series but I am intrigued by this new Sami person … she sounds fun. I am very much looking forward to seeing the beautiful Diane von Furstenberg on screen moreso than the … harsh … Kelly Cutrone at People’s Republic. Will this show rise to heights of Hills fame? Prolly not but it may yet provide much entertainment nonetheless … after all, think of all the facial expressions that NYC is bound to bring out of Whitney Port!

Jennifer Aniston has returned to the NBC family … well, at least for a little bit. Here are pictures of Jen on the NYC streets set of 30 Rock filming new scenes last night for her upcoming guest stint on the show. According to reports, Jen will play a crazy Fatal Attraction-like stalker … which sounds like a role she can pull off successfully:

Jennifer Aniston will guest star on an episode of 30 Rock NBC confirmed on Tuesday. The former Friends star will play a “free-spirited, Fatal Attraction-like stalker” NBC said in a statement. Aniston’s character, Claire Harper, is Liz Lemon’s (Tina Fey) former roommate from Chicago who shows up in New York and latches on to Jack Donaghy Alec Baldwin. “Jennifer is not only incredibly lovely to have around, she also has what the young people would call ‘mad skills.’ We’re very excited that she’s joining us,” show creator, executive producer and star Tina Fey said in the statement … Aniston – has previously made guest appearances on Dirt and South Park. 30 Rock premieres on October 30.

While Jen did do guest stints on Dirt and South Park, I think that this upcoming guest spot on 30 Rock will really be a great way to remind the TV viewing audience that she is a very funny actress. She was integral to making Friends the huge success that it was/is and I really do miss that part of her. In recent years, she has moved so far away from her role as Rachel Green that, for me, has lessened her appeal. Whether it’s fair or not, it was that role that really endeared her to me and made me a fan of hers. I am very much looking forward to seeing her in this role, I bet she’s gonna hit it out of the park on this one. She can be a very funny physical comedian, from the looks of the pictures coming out of the 30 Rock set she’s really gonna turn it out for this role. So whadd y’all think?
