I’ve basically been keeping a low profile over the past few days … only going out to hang out a bit with a few friends but really, trying to do as little as possible. Yesterday I managed to finally finish reading Twilight (which I started before my European vacay) and, in the end, quite liked it:

It’s really an easy read and the story is somewhat compelling but it didn’t blow my mind by any means. There’s charm in its simplicity but it isn’t very challenging. I can deffo see the appeal for the rabid fans, tho. It makes for a great teen romance read. As an origin story, there was a lot of explanation going on with only the meat of the action coming at the very end. I am already well into New Moon (the second book in the series) and I like where it’s going. Again, fun books but nothing too challenging. I do want to read the series to the end (even tho Breaking Dawn, the fourth book that has just been released, is being met with poor reviews from fans I still want to read thru to the end) so I’ll be making my way thru the books as quickly as possible to get on to other books on my pile.
Last night I met up with Mike and Jill for dinner at Bamboo in Sherman Oaks, CA. We decided on Chinese (in honor of the Beijing Olympics) and had a great time. Honestly, I wasn’t in the mood to make a night of it so I bailed on dancing with Darion and Jordan. I gotta say, I’m really enjoying doing all the nothing ;)
Tonight The GangTM is getting together for a fun dinner before Kirsten has to jet back to Australia for a few weeks … I am looking forward to seeing everyone all together … it shall be a blast.

These books are ridiculous.
I happen to love this chapter-by-chapter summary: http://cleolinda.livejournal.c.....tml#cutid1
~spoiler warning~
I love the series. True, there were disappointments and at first I was a little upset with the book cause I was expecting more but then I remembered that the Twilight Saga was only suppose to be Twilight. Initially the other 3 books weren’t suppose to be released so by right Twilight was suppose to end on a happy note and she explained almost everything she had to. This series is really just simple and romantic, nothing more, nothing less. I have to admit it’s my guilty pleasure. The books I read are usually morbid.
I hope you’ll like it Trent.
I love the twilight series. I wasn’t disappointed with Breaking Dawn at all. I really liked all of it. Glad you’re getting into the books Trent!
I too just started reading this series…finished twilight this morning, then immediately ran out to Barnes & Noble to pick up the other 3 books. I really enjoyed Twilight and am enjoying new moon as well.
Love the Twilight series. Don’t know why the rabid fans are so upset with Breaking Dawn. I loved it.
TRENT!
you have to keep reading the series, it’s sooooooo good!
I’m just finishing up breaking dawn, and I’m pretty sad about it, I don’t want the story to endddd :(
i was a rabid fan up until the 4th book. it was too wrapped up too well. it is your teenage fairy tale story, which made me want to gag. but if you read the book with the mindset of a teenage girl in need of a romantic dream, then it’s a good book. keep your expectations low – it is NOT an adult book by any means, like the writing style and story compositions, which I can tell you’ve figured it out.
you’ll enjoy it if you think of it purely as teenage fangirl crack.
Trent, you and I are always on the same wavelength when it comes to your reviews, whether it be books, movies, whatever. What you have to say about Twilight echoes exactly what I felt after reading it – I wasn’t blown away, I enjoyed it, want to read the others eventually, but can understand how teen girls can fall in love with it. I am eager to hear what you think about the others when you read them, so I know if it is worth it to continue, so please do post your thoughts!
Yeah. I thought it was an extremely easy read too. At some parts of the book, I got annoyed at how predictable the romance was but got more annoyed at how simple the sentences were. Then I went to visit a friend and Twilight was on her 12 year old sister’s bookshelf. I felt shamed, but nevertheless, I will read the sequel.
Trent, you’re a lot more forgiving than I am. I didn’t actaully realize it was a book aimed at teenage girls when I picked it up (like an idiot, I ignored the old adage and DID judge the book by it’s cover, which was quite striking). I read it from beginning to end in one 3 hour flight, and then threw it in the trash when we touched down. I thought it was truly awful, with the most ridiculous Mary-sue main character I have ever come across. I’m actually surprised it’s so popular, even amongst the tweenies – this would not have impressed me at all at that age either. But I’m glad you’re enjoying it. Maybe if you know what to expect going in, it isn’t so bad.
The Twilight series is an easy read. And it’s a good one too. Which why it’s easy to fall in love with for many people. And as for Breaking Dawn I liked it, but at the same time I understand why many fans didn’t. Have fun reading New Moon though! It’s even better than Twilight.
Love twilight. It’s so good. I don’t get how people were upset by Breaking Dawn. It was the perfect way to wrap everything up.
I have to say, I thought Twilight made a good read as well, but the characters seemed so flat and the language was terribly repetitive. By the time I finished New Moon and Eclipse, I realized that the tiny flaws I found in Twilight were magnified throughout the rest of the series. It is certainly a teen romance with plenty of overemotional dribble, but I did think it was a cute storyline. I’m currently making my way through Breaking Dawn because I also want to finish the series, and so far, it’s been better than the last few books to be honest (perhaps because I’m less than halfway through).
I thought Breaking Dawn was amazing; it provided a lot of closure. I don’t understand the mixed reviews of it.. it was uncalled for. The book is different than the other 3 but it was necessary for it to be. Anyway, enjoy New Moon, that one is my favorite :)
I am also up to New Moon and really enjoying the serie. The haters should lighten up a little. It’s a fun read that’s all. Perfect for Summer.
There is another vampire serie which looks interesting. It’s by Charlaine Harris and that’s what the upcoming shows True Blood will be based on. That’s next on my to read list after Twilight. :)
Oh god Trent, I am so disappointed in you. Well, I’m disappointed in anybody who thinks that this book is anything more than Stephanie Meyer’s thinly (VERY thinly) veiled attempt at writing herself into the life she wants. They’re awful. Even her description of Bella matches her.
I had to laugh a little since I JUST started reading the books this week and they are my new form of crack. I read Twilight and then rushed right out to get New Moon (which the checkout girl at Target told me she liked least…but i liked more than the first!). I hate to admit it, but this 32-yr old is totally digging some teen vampire/werewolf drama!
I really enjoyed Twilight, but halfway through New Moon the main characters really started annoying me. I finished it anyway, liked Eclipse much more than NM, and as for Breaking Dawn…
Well, to be fair, I haven’t finished it yet. But I’m not hopeful. I tore through the first three books in a matter of days, but this last one has me irritated to the point of not really wanting to finish it. I’m not a rabid fan of the books by any means, but I had higher hopes for it. I won’t spoil it for you by saying why, but I will say that Bella and Edward still annoy me — I read it mostly for the secondary characters at this point, they’re a lot of fun.
loved the series- hated breaking dawn. there is just SUCH buildup to where you know it is going and then nothing. abruptly you are left on your butt with it all wrapped in a pretty bow. I hate that
