‘Project Runway’ Has Got ‘Jungle’ Fever
ATTENTION: 'PROJECT RUNWAY' SPOILER ALERT WARNING

Oh yeah, last night’s ep of Project Runway had that good ol’ feel that the previous seasons had … at last, I’m starting to have an affinity for some of the designers and more personality is starting to show thru. This week, the designers were challenged to create a look for a pretty famous “fashion icon” and to design an outfit for her to wear in the upcoming second season of her NBC show:

This week, the PR contestants learned that it is a Jungle out there competing to become America’s Next Top Fashion Designer. After the jump, find out who was in, who was out and who had what it takes to create a look suitable for prime time US TV …

Okay, so the “fashion icon”/guest judge who appeared in last night’s ep was Brooke Shields and she challenged the designers to create a look that her character Wendy Healy could wear in an upcoming season 3 ep of her show Lipstick Jungle:

So the team of Keith and Kenley won the challenge while I personally thought that the team of Korto and Joe should’ve won … and team Kelli and Daniel lost, resulting in Kelli getting Auf‘ed from competition. While I liked Keith/Kenley‘s outfit (well, I thought it was just OK actually), I really felt that Korto/Joe‘s outfit fit the parameters of the challenge perfectly. It was the only outfit that had a bohemian feel to it AND it was chic as hell. I felt bad that Kelli had to go home … she was my little Sweet P v. 2.0. I must agree with Nina Garcia, tho, that if you don’t have taste you can’t fake taste … Kelli‘s design did look trashy and working with Daniel didn’t help her at all. I think I’ve come to realize that Daniel‘s talent is somewhat shrouded in smoke and mirrors … it looks like he knows what he’s doing but in the end, he doesn’t really. I think his days are numbered. Had Kelli not been the team leader, he would’ve been sent packing to return to the loving arms of his Project Runway boyfriend Wesley, who was already eliminated from competition earlier this season. Hands down the funniest moment of the ep/season/possibly the series came when Terri was rippin’ into her teammate Suede … she delivered the funniest line EVER, and I quote:

I don’t know what he’s packin’ … balls or vajay-jay … but he needs to work that out ‘cuz I ain’t got no babies, ain’t nobody suckin’ on my titties … so please, man up.

Ye gods, I was laughing so hard, I was literally on the floor … brills stuff. She made a new fan out of me. The ep overall was pretty entertaining, Brooke was a great guest judge (she was so fun, so perfect for the show … I’m having a hard time thinking of a previous guest judge who I liked on the show more … anyone?) and I’m warming up to the idiosyncrasies of the designers. I love how, when informed they’d be designing for a “fashion icon” Blayne thought it would be Hillary Clinton and Stella thought it would be Sharon Osbourne. They are both so tragic … but now I <3 them rather than loathe them. I still have revoltion for Suede tho, his third person speak is just too stupid to like. I was impressed with Stella‘s work this time … with someone to reign her in, she can actually do pretty nice work. I kinda thought that Kenley‘s snickering during the judging (when Nina was destroying Daniel and questioning his taste level) was a bit rude — apropos, but rude ;) I think I’m finally happy with this season … it has at last, in its 5th ep, hit its stride. I can’t wait for next week, tho!!! Guest judge Chris March and the challenge is to design for drag queens?!?! OMG … I’m dying! I can’t wait!!!

Just an FYI for Kelli fans out there, she has a store in Columbus Ohio called Black Market, on High Street.

trent, last nite’s ep was great. but next week’s runway is 5 years in the making. and michael thought he had no idea how to judge wrestlng uniforms . . . how the hell is he gonna judge drag? oh, the proportions of that gown are just to wrong for his fake breasts?? and i can hear stella, “leatha drag!” joe can’t wait to see what a pterodactyl out of gay jurassic park looks like! but i do think the show has jumped the shark. too many celebrities this year? last week should’ve had a female olympiad instead of apollo, and as much as i love him…

  3. Margie says:

No mention of Jerrel? His outfit was awesome even if not appropriate for Brooke’s character.

  4. Keith says:

I cannot wait for next week’s episode…this was an idea I’ve had for a challenge for a couple of seasons now and I’m glad someone else had the same idea. I instantly recognized a number of those drag queens from my many years living in NYC, including Sherry Vine and Hedda Lettuce. It made me think back to the good old days of drinks and a drag show at Barracuda. But where’s Shequida?

i agree about this season being great. the last few seasons weren’t as great to me as the earlier ones but i’m starting to really like season 5 as much as the first few. i thought it was rude of kenley to laugh at daniel. i thought they were good friends. ?? i really do think daniel has “impeccable taste” like he says he does, he just hasn’t shown it yet. for some reason i really like him but i’m not sure why. i felt bad for kelli because she is good but i really didn’t want blayne to go home and i thought his outfit was much better than hers. i can’t wait for the next episode too! i love chris march though his final collection with the human hair was a tiny bit creepy..

  6. R says:

I don’t think Chris March is going to be the guest judge. Not from what I’ve read. But maybe I’m wrong.

Stella is growing on me and I think her and Jerrell should of won.

I think this is the first reason im not attached to anyone.

But i’m soooo excited for the next ep.

  7. Mel says:

I must have zero fashion sense because I thought Keith’s creation was HIDEOUS! The brown + floral print? Are you kidding me??? This is fashion brilliance? Are you kidding me? EGADS!

  8. GiGi says:

All those years of Michael Kors saying “This looks like something a Drag Queen would wear” will finally be coming back to haunt him. Lol.

I was surprised by the outfits that Brooke Shields liked (like, Jerell and Stella’s? WTF), but then again, I’ve never watched Lipstick Jungle, so who knows.

I thought Blayne should have gone home, because honestly everything in his outfit could have been purchased at the Gap.

  9. Verodemort says:

I’m far too easy minded on this challenge, as I can see positives and negatives to almost all the designs… except for Kelli’s that is. Her dress was truly skanky. I think that as the leader, she should have taken responsibility and not thrown Daniel under the bus, but I also think he doesn’t bring much to the table. I loved Jerrell, I thought his creation was hot! I didn’t really like Koato’s design together with the dress but I can appreciate all the hard work put into that jacket, while not really being a fan of a light tan backless dress. Puke! Keith’s design was really nice, but I didn’t think it deserved the win, I would have went with Stella and Jerrell but whateves. Kelli laughing was rude but really funny because that’s what he always says, and I have yet to see him produce something with “impeccable taste”. Blaine… you know, I think his design was really fresh but not for the task at hand- you were suppose to design for lipstick jungle not the Gap!! I nether loved nor hated Suede and Teri’s look, but let it be known that Suede talking about himself in the third person is wackkkkkkkkk! Its as terrible as Blaine’s “licious” everything! Verodemort is “serioliciously” over both of them! So not bringing the fierce like Christian Seriano!

  10. Heather says:

I still love Kenley and think they edited that scene to make it look worse than it was. Blayne is on my nerves and I screamed when Heidi said he was in. Kelli’s outfit might have lacked taste but she’s at least been consistant. Blayne’s outfit lacked taste as well and he’s a consistantly a HOT MESS. Yuck! PS, I email Kenley from her website to see what color lipstick she wears and it’s L’Oreal Crimson Joy.
    Loves it!

  11. lt says:

kenley annoys the crap outta me….bettie page wannabe. while i laughed, too, i was not a participant…too rude!

suede needs to stfu! i think he does the 3rd person speak on purpose, but it isn’t getting him the fans he is courting…it just annoys the f^%k out of everyone!

i LOVE Terri…she rocks and tells it like it is

stella, stella, stella…what else is there to say but “leatha”..i love how that rolls off the tounge

i can’t wait till next week…omg…it will rock

  12. Alfred says:

Finally something queenish to look forward to in episode 5. This season hasn’t been exactly mind-blowing as yet.

I personally liked Jerrell/Stella’s design the best – it’d really fit Wendy Healy and make her 10 years younger. Though I have to say, Keith/Kenley did a great job too – their design was more forward with the simplicity. I’m just suprised that no one actually picked up Keith channel Christian in that dress with the layering! Hello?! That’s Christian’s fierceness!

Korto’s dress was OK – I disliked the colour but I liked the embelishment. The dress underneath was just OK – that’s why she was saved. Terri was definitely funny quoting Oprah’s Va-Jay-Jay. Suede wasn’t featured much this episode. I thought the neckline of their design looked fabulous.

Didn’t like how Kenley laughed at Daniel, even though her comment on him was pretty much justified. Daniel has been all talk so far – he’s just like Wesley (oh my pretty boy…). One thing that he grows and must be cut is his HAIR!!!! It looks like a dyed mop Terri could have used in the 1st week.

  13. MelMel says:

This season is finally getting up to par yes. I’m totally on Teams Korto and Terry at this point. Kenley needs to have her Betty Page hair pulled out of her head. What a rude lil c*nt!!!! I mean, honest…but c*ntie……….haha

  14. Megan says:

So, I totes thought that Kenley and Daniel were all “You’re the cutest”, “No, YOU’RE the cutest” and they were giggly last week. WTF? Let us make up our minds, shall we?

I HAVE to say, Kelli was at least decent as a designer, and brought up a good point that she had never been in the bottom two before, and had even won a competition. I thought she’d be going far. Yes, her outfit SUCKED tittie (LMAO, go Terri!!!) this time but she was good/great at other challanges. Seriously, Blayne is a TERRIBLE designer and has had crap from the start (remember his strange Playboy bunny-esque… THING in the first ep?). I’m just wondering what the judges were thinking in last night’s ep, honestly.

I have to say… I wasn’t drawn to ANY outfits really. Way disappointing.. but, hello… GO LEATHA! lmao!! And yay for drag queens next week. Fo sho.

  15. Kyle says:

I do not see WHY you are so enamored with Joe; his clothes are tacky, ill-constructed and unoriginal. Oh look…a slip dress! Another…slip dress! Kato designed a slip dress, so of course that’s what Joe would make. As well, I was appalled that his Olympic outfit was revered when the skort was terribly cut and the idea was cliché and literal.

But..really? A slip dress with a HOLE in the middle of it? To quote Michael: “Slutty, slutty, slutty!”

  16. Amber W says:

I was so sad to see Kelli go… She was so cool and chill. She was actually normal too and I liked her designs. I really wanted Daniel to go home because he really hasn’t done anything impressive…at all!! But I might be a little biast because Kelli was my pick to win it all :) And Kenley was very rude to laugh like that…not cool ha

Well Trent I love your blog, read 24/7 :)

project runway usa isnt working for me.PROJECT RUNWAY AUSTRALIA ROCKS

  18. Dianna says:

ummm Suede totally said “I” in the first five minutes of the show. It sounded weird…

  19. Saple says:

    GO JOE!

  20. Paz says:

I love Brooke Shields, but this just reaked of NBC (which owns Bravo) trying to cross-promote Lipstick Jungle. (NBC also shows the Olympics).
Best guest judge? Trent. have you forgotten about Miss Sarah Jessica Parker????
I thought Kenley was kind of cute but she’s coming off as a bitch. That was incredibly rude of her to laugh.
I was flabbergasted at the decision. Kelly’s outfit may have been a bit hoochie, but it did not compare to the suckiness of Blayne’s outfit. NO ONE would wear that to the office or at night. It looked cheap. I really thought Kelly would make it to the final 3. Sigh.
BTW I do not like this new trend of announcing the challenges and guest judges in the promos.
