‘Project Runway’ Has Got ‘Jungle’ Fever
ATTENTION: 'PROJECT RUNWAY' SPOILER ALERT WARNING

Oh yeah, last night’s ep of Project Runway had that good ol’ feel that the previous seasons had … at last, I’m starting to have an affinity for some of the designers and more personality is starting to show thru. This week, the designers were challenged to create a look for a pretty famous “fashion icon” and to design an outfit for her to wear in the upcoming second season of her NBC show:

This week, the PR contestants learned that it is a Jungle out there competing to become America’s Next Top Fashion Designer. After the jump, find out who was in, who was out and who had what it takes to create a look suitable for prime time US TV …

Okay, so the “fashion icon”/guest judge who appeared in last night’s ep was Brooke Shields and she challenged the designers to create a look that her character Wendy Healy could wear in an upcoming season 3 ep of her show Lipstick Jungle:

So the team of Keith and Kenley won the challenge while I personally thought that the team of Korto and Joe should’ve won … and team Kelli and Daniel lost, resulting in Kelli getting Auf‘ed from competition. While I liked Keith/Kenley‘s outfit (well, I thought it was just OK actually), I really felt that Korto/Joe‘s outfit fit the parameters of the challenge perfectly. It was the only outfit that had a bohemian feel to it AND it was chic as hell. I felt bad that Kelli had to go home … she was my little Sweet P v. 2.0. I must agree with Nina Garcia, tho, that if you don’t have taste you can’t fake taste … Kelli‘s design did look trashy and working with Daniel didn’t help her at all. I think I’ve come to realize that Daniel‘s talent is somewhat shrouded in smoke and mirrors … it looks like he knows what he’s doing but in the end, he doesn’t really. I think his days are numbered. Had Kelli not been the team leader, he would’ve been sent packing to return to the loving arms of his Project Runway boyfriend Wesley, who was already eliminated from competition earlier this season. Hands down the funniest moment of the ep/season/possibly the series came when Terri was rippin’ into her teammate Suede … she delivered the funniest line EVER, and I quote:

I don’t know what he’s packin’ … balls or vajay-jay … but he needs to work that out ‘cuz I ain’t got no babies, ain’t nobody suckin’ on my titties … so please, man up.

Ye gods, I was laughing so hard, I was literally on the floor … brills stuff. She made a new fan out of me. The ep overall was pretty entertaining, Brooke was a great guest judge (she was so fun, so perfect for the show … I’m having a hard time thinking of a previous guest judge who I liked on the show more … anyone?) and I’m warming up to the idiosyncrasies of the designers. I love how, when informed they’d be designing for a “fashion icon” Blayne thought it would be Hillary Clinton and Stella thought it would be Sharon Osbourne. They are both so tragic … but now I <3 them rather than loathe them. I still have revoltion for Suede tho, his third person speak is just too stupid to like. I was impressed with Stella‘s work this time … with someone to reign her in, she can actually do pretty nice work. I kinda thought that Kenley‘s snickering during the judging (when Nina was destroying Daniel and questioning his taste level) was a bit rude — apropos, but rude ;) I think I’m finally happy with this season … it has at last, in its 5th ep, hit its stride. I can’t wait for next week, tho!!! Guest judge Chris March and the challenge is to design for drag queens?!?! OMG … I’m dying! I can’t wait!!!

I disagree with Kelli/Daniel’s work this week – it is t-acky, uninspired, bad silhouette. Worst part is the half leopard half black clothed top, that pattern is just not fashionable at all. I would just make the top leopord-ish since it’d be covered underneath the jacket anyway. And the thing covering the breasts, half green half leopard, Nina was right on the money – No Taste!

Blayne’s design, whilst not quite fitting the brief, was still at least presentable and cute. Probably not for Wendy, Victory Ford might wear it when she’s lounging in her one-woman office!

I really did like Keith’s but I actually thought Jerrel would win cos his dress was stunning. I still can’t stand Stella though, she wrecks my head. She’s like a pretentious little teenager that refuses to do anything that’s not “rock n roll” but it was interesting to see the good work she could do when she’s being reigned in.

I hated Kelli’s. So slutty looking but I agree that Daniel’s on his last legs. I don’t think he’s going to last much longer.

It’s strange though – I’m not a huge Blayne fan but I was rooting for him to stay. He’s no Christian Siriano but I think he’s got promise.

Finally, to be completely frivolous – Keith is gorgeous. I know he’s gay but I can still look, right? ;-)

Has anyone noticed that the “bohemian” thing was not part of the challenge, although several teams thought it was. Brooke Shields described to her character as someone who HAD been living a bohemian lifestyle, but worked her way to be a successful head of a studio. If the contestants had looked at the pictures of her character from the show, they would have realized that there is never one ounce of bohemian in the clothing designed for Wendy Healey.

Sarah Jessica Parker was better than Brooke. Natalie Portman was as good. But I liked all three.

Kenley laughing is only half as bad as Daniel having the balls to tell the judges that his taste is “impeccable” regardless of what they say. Pro-Kenley, Anti-Daniel (he’s suffering from the Tyra Complex – Daniel loves Daniel!)
