Nine Inch Nails Return To Lollapalooza

Return to the fest for the first time since 1991
August 5th, 2008

Here are a few pics that were posted to the official Nine Inch Nails website and were taken over the weekend at the Lollapalooza Music Festival in Chicago, IL. NIN fans may recall that Nine Inch Nails were on board for the Lollapalooza fest back in 1991, the year that Perry Farrell started the whole thing. Along with bands like Siouxsie & the Banshees, Jane’s Addiction, Living Colour, Ice-T & Body Count, NIN were part of the very first Lollapalooza tour that traveled around the country. These days, Lollapalooza is a stationary 3-day music festival which takes place annually in Chicago, IL but back in the day it was a traveling circus of music acts, artists and other performers that toured from city to city. This year, NIN returned to the Lollapalooza stage for the first time in 17 years … here are a few of the official NIN pics:

Sadly, I was not in attendance at the first Lollapalooza tour in 1991 (nor was I at this year’s fest, for that matter) which is something that I will always regret. I would have loved to have seen both NIN and SaTB on the same stage (I was but a wee lad back then). Ah, memories. Anyways, new official photos are uploaded to NIN.com all the time but they only feature one photo at a time … when a new photo is uploaded the previous one is removed. But, you can go to NINblogs.wordpress.com to see an archive of all of the official photos that have been posted to the official NIN site. It’s an unconventional way to blog but it is very rare when Trent Reznor does anything conventionally.

Although I’m still a little upset that MInneapolis got postponed while Lollapalooza went on, but it gives me a few more months to get ready and psyched up again. NOVEMBER 25, BITCHES!!!

I was there!!!! It was so completely amazing – NIN was the best performer of the entire festival. It was a great experience all around.

Trent spoke to the crowd at the end of the performance about how he was thankful of Perry Farrell and the chance he took 17 years ago by including the unknown band from Cleveland to be in the first Lollapalooza – and that he was grateful to be alive 17 years later to play in this incarnation of the festival with all of his good friends and the other bands. It was great – honest, humble and moving.

The crowd went totally balistic . . . and then respectfully sang along to “Hurt”.

    Totally, totally amazing.

I might be the only one glad the Minneapolis show got postponed to November, because I am going now whereas I couldn’t before!

I was there at Shoreline amp in Mt. View – gawd what a time I had. I was about in the first 2 rows left side since I worked for Tower Records [not that I got tickets comp through them, pulled them when I did the on-sale through ticket master]

I was so close I could lick the sweatt off Trent & Perry. I went the following 3 years but sure lost steam after that. Remember listening to a little band called Pearl Jam one year. Ah those were the simplier days. Two years ago I got to see my all time idols Bauhaus & Trent opened for them. I squeeled like a little girl seeing the stage set up – the caged wall that came down. Ah I cannot wait for the new tour stop in bay area!!!

I just wanted to say thanks for the ninblog link b/c I just saw NIN last night at the ACC in Toronto and he posted some pictures from that concert! I tried to get some decent pictures but it wasn’t working the way I’d hoped. First time seeing him, very long time fan. It was a great show and the stage and lights were just spectacular. Thanks!
