The man is a great swimmer and hot as hell.Hung like a horse he is.Big neck,big feet,big fingers and ears sticking out, big in other appendages.Good for him and better for somebody we do not know yet.

Thank God for technology!

In 1987, an electronic device known as a touch pad was created. It is placed across a pool wall and has a timer on it. When a swimmer touches it the timer stops. That is how winners and losers are determined. Cameras above and below the pool are also placed in case something goes wrong with the touch pad. However, since its creation it has never failed. Furthermore, the ones that are being used at the Beijing Olympics were made by a Swiss Company called Omega.

The touch pads and cameras are the most accurate way of judging results. This is why swimming is the most unbiased sport. It captures things that the eye would miss with a single blink. Michael Phelps winning by only a second is not surprising. It happens a lot in swimming. Anyway, congratulations to him and I wish him the bes of luck in his final race.

The photos and touchpads show Phelps touched the wall before Cavic. And even though swimming is one sport, theres different strokes and different distances which all require different pacing strategies, stamina, and skillsets, not to mention the strategy of using enough energy to swim fast enough in quarter and semi final heats to qualify for finals, while still conserving enough energy to actually win a gold. People thought Ian Crocker would be the one to challenege Phelps in this race, but hecame in fourth, most likely because he was tired from having swum a leg in the relay qualifier earlier. Phelps has swum gold medal races….in World Record times…within an hour of swimming a qualifier. Even other Olympic swimmers, who understand how difficult these events are both individually and taken together, have marveled at Phelps accomplishments….Jadded I think my favorite part was watching Michael’s mother have the same reaction you had lol. I loved how she just sunk down into her seat in disbelief.

The electronic sensors don’t lie. They wouldn’t be used if they were faulty, especially with the number of races won by insanely small margins. Those frame-by-frame shots on SI were awesome. Thanks for sharing, Trent. It was an amazing race to watch, and Phelps deserves all the accolades he’s getting. He came off as very gracious in his interview with Mark Spitz, stumbling over his words as he tried to process his incredible accomplishment. I can’t wait to watch him further secure his place in sports history tonight, but I’ll miss seeing him daily in his fancy suit. ;)

That is freaking PATHETIC. The other guy CLEARLY got there first, HE deserves the gold. Not some guy who oozes arrogance out of every orifice and is so wrongly worshipped because he happens to be good at ONE sport which has MANY events.
Seriously stop treating that guy like a god, or he’ll drown next time he’s in the pool because even water buoyancy won’t be able to hold that giant head of his up.
