Madonna Kicks Off Her ‘Sticky & Sweet’ World Tour
And away she goes ...

Madonna, the uncontested Queen of Pop, kicks off her new Sticky & Sweet World Tour in Cardiff, Great Britain tonight at the Millennium Stadium and the world waits with bated breath to hear (or, if you’re lucky enough to be attending this first show, see) what Maddy has got up her sleeve for this latest tour. But, ahead of tonight’s first show we have a couple of preview pics of Madonna on stage from her full dress rehearsal performance which took place last night. Here are pics of Madge in her “old school” tour costume last night:

There are quite a few more pictures out there from the final dress rehearsal performance last night but in an effort to keep as many secrets about the tour unspoiled until the tour actually starts, I’ll not be posting them. That said, I do plan to post a few pics of the opening night show in Cardiff (which takes place tonight) tomorrow in a post about the show.

Madonna.com has announced the opening of the official tour store where souvenirs from the Sticky & Sweet World Tour can be purchased online, including t-shirts, posters and the tourbook:

After the jump, check out a few pictures from the tourbook, some stats about the show that have been released by Madonna‘s people and a short video of Madonna talking to her fans from backstage at last night’s dress rehearsal …

An industrious and perhaps overzealous fan has already posted photos from the entire tourbook (which you can see HERE if you so desire). And here is Maddy‘s message to fans on the eve of the kickoff of her world tour:

I am VERY excited for this tour all of the sudden. I mean, I was always looking forward to seeing this new tour but all of this last minute excitement is very infectious :) This morning I got my ass up at 7AM PT (which was very difficult since I only went to bed at 4AM PT) to purchase a ticket for Madonna‘s Detroit concert stop in November (I managed to get a very sweet left-center floor ticket, thank you very much) so I’m deffo planning on being at that show. I may have to see about getting to either one of the LA or the NYC shows as well … now, I’m dying to see this show. I really don’t want to spoil myself too much before I get to see the show but … I am dying to hear about the rumored Britney Spears portion of the show. I am counting on those overzealous Madonna fans to give us the full scoop as soon as it happens in Cardiff tonight.

I’m sorry, but why can’t the woman dress appropriately? I don’t care that she’s still got a decent body, women her age should cover up somewhat. The Lolita glasses look cute on my 8yo….not so much on a 50 yo. No matter if it’s for the stage, it’s tacky. Madge, get a little dignity (to match the fake British accent) …we don’t see Tina Turner or any other great diva prancing around in short shorts.

  2. katt says:

yeah, but then she wouldn’t be madonna!

anyways, i am so stoked for this show! i’m going in november, didn’t get the best seats (cause they were almost sold out!) but i’m there! can’t wait!!!

  3. ariel says:

so age identify you as a person? and what you should dress? and on stage . . . i mean she is not wearing it daly!!!! i guess somebody should tell bon jovi to stop wearing those thight pants and shirts and start dressing like a man his age!!

  4. Kent says:

Holy CRAP! I love those 4 b&w photos.
This is great news about the tour kicking off tonite – I am seriously beyond any acceptable level of excitement to see this tour (the first time I’ll get to see Madge) and my friends are starting to raise their eyebrows at me.
As for that video, is it just me or is it perhaps just the camera angle or the video quality but Madge looks a little, um, “tightened”…
P.S. This week, “Over And Over” is my “new again” old favourite Madonna song ;-)

  5. Kent says:

Oh, and I’ve also just re-discovered the beauty of Tori Amos’ cover version of “Like A Prayer” at the London Hammersmith Apollo 4/6/05 … AMAZING!

  6. julie says:

Wow, Ariel. Just wow. Is there no one in Madonna’s life who has the cojones to tell her that she looks silly? Yes, age should have a factor in how a person dresses. Nine year olds shouldn’t go to school in business attire, and 50-year-old mothers of three, no matter how ripped, have no business dressing like naughty school girls. Madonna just looks pathetic. She does, however, look very nice in the picture with Trent! It’s flattering slightly sexy, and completely suited to her age, coloring, body type, etc.

  7. Calliwells says:

Listen. The bitch is 50, its time she put the crotch away! Also Hard Candy is a rubbish of a record.

  8. laura says:

She needs to dress like the icon in music history that she is not like a trollop desperate for attention. Come on a little bit of class could not hurt her at all.

  9. The pictures and stuff just aren’t impressing me much

  10. Jesse says:

You gotta hate Madonna to love her! I’m not a big fan of hers but compared to those (Mariah, Britney, Beyonce) others she’s the most “interesting”. she seems to be doing it right because she’s got Julie and Laura’s attention, enough for them to leave a comment about her!

Madonna, your music is so-so but you sure know how to get people’s attention….

  11. An says:

that first old skool outfit looks horrible. She really looks like she picked some things out of Lourdes’ closeth. Nagh. It’s not just that she dresses like a 10 year old but it just doesn’t suit her. She should put on some more flattering clothes for her tour! I do like the boxer photos although they are heavily photoshopped.

  12. jade says:

    aren’t those heart glasses lola’s?

didn’t lola have those exact glasses on in a post you did comparing the 2?

i ask because desipte the blonde hair she looks exactly like lola with those glasses on.

  13. Laura says:

Oh, please! That dress she’s wearing in the picture with Trent is very nice, but it would be ridiculous for her show. Besides, I thought by now people would know that Madonna doesn’t need anyone’s approval to wear what she wants. Also, if you think it’s so inappropriate and ugly, just don’t go to the concert… it’s not like they won’t sell enough tickets, you know?
