Lego My Olympics
An impressive homage
These pics are way too cool to not post … the Hong Kong Lego User Group decided to pay homage to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China by creating a model of the Olympic Stadium (the Bird’s Nest), the Aquatics Center (the Water Cube) and the Olympic Village using about 300,000 Lego bricks and 4,500 Lego people characters … check out their stunning creation:

As if their creations weren’t impressive enough, all of the model recreations were fashioned in under 100 hours. Now, I dunno how many folks worked on these models but it strikes me as pretty astounding that such a feat could be put together so quickly. Head on over to the HKLUG‘s official website to check out some more of their amazing work.

hmm I don’t see any lego cats in those creations…maybe that is because China killed hundreds of thousands of cats so the Olympic city would be beautiful.

How else did you expect them to feed the influx of people? :-)
Back to Lego, very impressive skills!
I love what they’ve done. I wish the best for China. I watch GWBush at the Olympics and think, “geez…isn’t there SOMETHING he could be working on in the US rather than watching sports?” and then I think, “hmmm…..that’s a pretty nice Chinese city….I wonder how the earthquake survivors are doing….” I was an all american athlete….I love me some olympics and the “globally goodie goo” it spreads all over the world, but why can’t those same feelings be evoked when another human being is in need. C’mon…..is there REALLY not enough to go around?
Good Lord people.
This shit is amazing.
Hey, thx for posting something like this! (keeps it fresh, eh) …
These lego creations are astonishing and remind me of the true BRILLIANCE that went into the conception and execution of Beijing’s opening ceremonies last week – musta been one of the most jaw-dropping collection of performances I’ve ever seen. I’m a bit scared of what we’ll be able to come up with here in Vancouver for our opening ceremonies for the Winter Olympics in 2010.
awesome!
First off I am hoping that bit about cats being killed in China that was posted by another reader is not true. I am an ultra animal rights activist and the very thought sickens me. On another note, the Lego models are definitely cool…but the actual Olympics is NOT a good thing if innocent creatures are being killed in order to host an elaborate and essentially unecessary event that pits countries up against each other in competition.
that is awesome!
