@ Maya B
This is a horrible thing to say! You can lead a perfectly healthy lifestyle and still get cancer.
Your comment reminds me of that scene with Samantha in SATC....

orrrrrrrrrr people could live more organic lives instead of bathing in chemicals every single day with shampoo's conditioners, perfume, moiturizing creams, make up, cleaning products.. etc.. all this time and energy is spent raising money for a cure when there is a fairly simple way of preventing!

My friend was diagnosed last year at age 34 and had both breasts removed. She lived a healthy life and had breast fed her child. Women are getting this younger and younger. I say once you turn 30, ignore the doctors who say you are too young - spend the money and have a mammogram and the other tests. If Christina had been casual about this and had waited until she was 40 to get checked, the cancer would have probably been terminal.

I am happy for her. What a strong person it takes to: a) deal with being diagnosed with cancer, b) have both your breasts removed, and c) publicly comment on it in the cesspool of grossness that is Hollywood. I can just picture someone making some snide remark about her and it just makes me sick.

The whole breast cancer situation is terrifying at any age. She's lucky she got treatment compared to many people around the world who don't always have access to good care.

Froggie is right. It is not necessary to get a mammogram before the age of 40 unless you have an immediate family history of Breast Cancer. Otherwise mammograms are routine annually after 40. If you have the means, a breast MRI is much more accurate than a Mammogram.

I think they recommend getting checked at 30 if you have a family history (like she did). Otherwise yearly visits to gyno are the way to go! So glad she is Ok what a relief!

It's so nice to hear a story like this with a good outcome. She seems like a really sweet person, and I'm impressed by her vigilance in cancer screening. Too bad that most of us don't have access to such advanced methods, though.
