The New ‘Kath & Kim’ Emulates The Old ‘Kath & Kim’

A step in the right direction
Friday, August 29th, 2008

NBC has released a new promo pic of Molly Shannon and Selma Blair, in their respective roles as Kathleen ‘Kath’ Darleen Day Knight and Kimberly ‘Kim’ Day Craig, sitting side-by-side in their backyard porch/deck area seeming to emulate the regular closing scene of each ep of the original Aussie version of Kath & Kim … which I think is a very good step in the right direction:

Those familiar with the original Australian version of Kath & Kim know that each ep ends with mother and daughter engaging in a little banter on the back patio (or lanai, if you will) at the close of each episode. It appears that the new US version of the series will be doing the same. This is a good sign, I think. You may recall that we recently got to see new video promos for the show and new pics from filming of the series. All this new Kath & Kim stuff just keeps adding to the anticipation for me. I can’t wait to see this new incarnation of the show … for better or worse, I’m curious as hell. Still no word if the character of Sharon Karen Strzelecki will make it in the new US version … that should determine if NBC has made a fatal error or not.

Not All Superheroes Are Created Equal

Some, unfortch, get the short end of the costume stick
Friday, August 29th, 2008

The CW has released a few new promo images for the upcoming 8th season of Smallville and I found two particular photos of interest. Here are pics of Justin Hartley as Green Arrow (formerly Aquaman) and Alan Ritchson as Aquaman in their superhero costume finery:

See, this is proof positive that poor costume design can really undo a person’s hotness. Green Arrow doesn’t look too terrible but Aquaman, OY, looks just horrrrible! Tho, on the plus side we can plainly see where Aquaman keeps his trident ;) Granted Aquaman (and other Z-list heroes like hiim) is difficult to make cool and/or sexy but … man, couldn’t they have tried harder. Look at Alan’s face — even he looks disappointed. I mean, why does Aquaman need sneakers? Hahahaha … I hope these guys are being paid well for this gig. Poor things.

Gerard Butler Bears His Midriff

Altho inadvertently, still Woot!
Friday, August 29th, 2008

Here are a couple pics of Hottie McHotster Gerard Butler walking the streets of SoHo in NYC yesterday afternoon givin’ the world a peek of his fuzzy belly:

Yeah, that’s all I got … he’s a big hunk of sexy man. Ain’t it wonderful what a small gust of wind can do for one’s disposition? Er, I’m talking about my happy disposition, not Gerard’s seemingly grumpy one. Yummo!

Xtina’s ‘Inspire’d Fragrance Commercial

She finally gets it right!
Friday, August 29th, 2008

Last week we got our first look at the new ad campaign for Xtina Aguilera’s new perfume which she is calling Inspire and I recall being less than impressed by what I saw. Today we have our first look at the new commercial for the fragrance and altho the bubble theme is still intact, I must say that the look of the ad campaign has been upgraded significantly:

After the jump, check out Xtina’s new Inspire commercial in full …

Hunter Parrish Joins ‘Spring Awakening’ On Broadway

The Great White Way gets white hawtter!
Friday, August 29th, 2008

Hunter Parrish, of Showtime’s hit series Weeds fame, has officially begun his stint on Broadway as Melchior Gabor in the wildly successful show Spring Awakening. Here are a few pics of Hunter in his turn-of-the-century Melchior duds doin’ his thing:

Hunter Parrish, who was raised in the conservative Texas town of Plano, has played a pot dealer on TV and now has sex on stage. Well, not quite: It’s simulated. But the scene is one of the most talked about in the Tony Award-winning rock musical “Spring Awakening.” “It’s weird to, like, fake sex and put your parts up against someone else’s,” the 21-year-old actor says. “But I figured, ‘You know what? I’m going to be naked every night in New York, I might as well get used to it.’” His role in “Spring Awakening” certainly isn’t the first time Parrish has bared his bottom. In the acclaimed Showtime series “Weeds,” Parrish not only deals drugs and smokes, but also steals and drops trou as Mary-Louise Parker’s oldest son. In real life, though, he’s never inhaled. “I know that if I ever smoked pot I would probably become, like, a total pothead because I think I would like that,” he says. “I have, like, a chill personality, so that’s why I’m never going to start, because I don’t like to be dependent on anything. I don’t even drink coffee.” Never say never — to coffee, at least. Taking the stage eight days a week might wear him down. He could find himself addicted to a good French roast, like any other sleep-deprived Broadway actor in need of a caffeine fix. Parrish stifles a yawn during an interview with The Associated Press at a tapas restaurant in downtown Manhattan. It comes out of nowhere, though, since the rest of the time he’s a verbal dynamo, leaping animatedly into such eclectic topics as his celebrity crush (actress Amanda Seyfried), aversion to organized religion (he says it’s too hypocritical) and decision to wear a black rocker T-shirt instead of a “pretty-boy sweater” to lunch. The night before, he had officially stepped into his role as rebellious schoolboy Melchior Gabor in “Spring Awakening,” an adaptation of Frank Wedekind’s classic German drama about sexually repressed teens. It’s a career-defining move for Parrish, a loving son and liberal Christian, who has a surprisingly potent set of pipes. Again, he’s playing against his wholesome upbringing … Parrish possesses undeniable stage presence, and his angelic features — turquoise-colored eyes, high cheekbones, shaggy blond hair, choirboy smile — pop under bright lights. His singing voice is a rich tenor, gliding easily into falsetto in the ballad “Left Behind.” Producers sneaked him on stage — unofficially — several days ahead of his debut, however, and Parrish was more than a little nervous. “I was petrified! It was petrifying,” he says, but by the second performance, he adds, “I was like, ‘All right man, I’m ready!’ I was eager. That was great, because I just sort of was fueled, you know?” Parrish says Parker, his TV mom, sat in the audience Aug. 18 and ended up in tears. “She came up to my dressing room and she was crying and she was like, ‘I’m so proud of you. I can’t believe that you’re doing this. This is Broadway. You belong here,’” he recalls.

You know, I wasn’t too keen on Spring Awakening when I saw it with the original cast still intact, before it won all of those Tony Awards. For some reason, the show just didn’t grab me … but I can deffo see how Hunter Parrish would fit in perfectly with the cast for this show. Now, I have no idea what his singing sounds like but he deffo has the look to pull off the character. I might be amenable to seeing the show again to give it another go. I must confess, my wanting to see the show again might have more to do with that “butt” scene than anything else but … hey, whatever works, right? Hahahaha!

Happy Birthday, VLB

The TV Guide
Friday, August 29th, 2008

Last night VLB , Tracey, Megan, Sarah and I got together for a belated birthday celebration at The Living Room in Berkley, MI for a fun dinner of pizza and the best martinis in the greater Metro Detroit area. Here are a few of our pics from last night’s fun:

The ladies and I supped on delish pizza and AMAZING maritinis … I swear, The Living Room is one of my fave places in Detroit. It was great catching up with VLB and Megan, who I haven’t seen in ages. We had a great time.

That was pretty much it tho … Sarah and I came back to her place to call it a night. This evening I’m taking my mom out for a birthday dinner and then I’m planning on having another quiet night in. Sarah and Mark are going to a concert so I’m gonna chill on my own, get some reading done and then hang out with them after they get home. The weekend is upon us … it’s gonna be a good one. Woot!
