Here's the beef!
Jake Gyllenhaal Bulks Up For ‘Persia’

This week new photos of an overly beefed up Jake Gyllenhaal (on the set of his new movie Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which he is currently filming) popped up on various sites and the amazing site Pretty on the Outside took notice. Here is a cute caricature of Jakie poo in the guise of He-Man, the Most Powerful Man in the Universe:

LOL. The pic is not a bad likeness of what Jake Gyllenhaal looks like these days. After the jump, check out a pic of the lad on set of Prince of Persia in the guise of the very beefed up Prince Dastan for comparison …

Are Mayerston really dunzo?
Have Jennifer Aniston & John Mayer Called It Quits?

Could it be? Is this the end? Have Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer really decided to end their steamy and fun-to-watch romance? New reports going around today claim that Mayerston have broken up and that John was the one who did the dumping (but for Jen‘s own good) but I don’t know that I really believe it just yet … even still, I think it’s worth mentioning … word on the street is that Mayerston are dunzo:

Unlucky-in-love Jennifer Aniston has been dumped by her latest boyfriend, rock singer John Mayer. The pair initially decided to spend some time apart… before making the break official earlier this week. It is yet more heartache for the gorgeous Friends star, who has been unable to find love again since her divorce from Brad Pitt four years ago. News of her splitting up with Gravity singer John comes just weeks after the couple were rumoured to be considering marriage. “There’s been a bit of tension for some time,” says a source close to 30-year-old John. “They initially opted for a break, hoping a trial split might make them stronger. Sadly it doesn’t seem to have worked. John took the decision to end things as he felt he just wasn’t ready for the level of commitment that Jennifer deserved. Contrary to reports, Jen didn’t want to have kids or marry this year, but she did want to set a timetable for their future together. She also wanted him to assure her he would cut down his tours in the future when they did eventually have children. Initially, Jennifer was furious when he told her of his decision but now she’s simply sad – not to mention a little heartbroken” … While he holidays with pals in Mexico, Jennifer, 38, remains in LA, working. Ironically, she has recently completed filming on her latest movie, “He’s Just Not That Into You”. Ouch! The break-up is sure to hit unlucky-in-love Jen hard. While Brad is busy creating a “rainbow family” with Angelina Jolie, things have not gone so smoothly for Jen. Last year she dated Brit builder-turned-model Paul Sculfor, but that turned sour after just six weeks. And before that she had a year-long romance with actor Vince Vaughn, her costar in The Break-Up. Last night a spokesman for Jennifer declined to comment.

Both Jen and John are notorious for not talking to the press about their private lives and I highly doubt any “source close to John” would be talking to the tabs at all but … I guess we’ll just have to wait and watch to see if the two are seen together again. I do like them together, tho. Jen hasn’t looked this happy in eons … I hope they end up working it out in some way. Any guesses? Are they really dunzo this time?

Gives her first real interview in two years
Britney Spears Talks To ‘OK!’ Magazine

At long last, Britney Spears finally sits down for her first real interview in 2 years in order to give some insight on her life from her own perspective. We’ve heard things about her life from various other outside sources but even the stuff we got from the people closest to her in her inner circle cannot equal the sort of insight that can be gleaned from her own words. Last year, Britney disastrously tried to do an interview with OK! magazine and we all know how that turned out … this week, Brit Brit really sits down with OK! magazine and gives an interview the magazine proclaims is not to be missed:

From her nasty divorce and custody battle to her now-infamous performance at the 2007 VMAs to the dark period under the control of “manager” Sam Lutfi, it’s safe to say that the last two years were not the best in the young life of Britney Spears. And now, one year after an erratic and distracted Brit stormed out of an OK! photoshoot, a very different woman sits down to talk openly about her two adorable sons, her father and the future of her nearly sidetracked career. Having spent her young life in the spotlight, the 26-year-old mother of two tells OK! that she hopes her boys choose not to choose a career in entertainment. “I’d love them unconditionally if they wanted to,” she explains. “I’d just as soon they have a more normal childhood.” Perhaps some of Britney’s reluctance comes from seeing her little sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, have to face so much public scrutiny over her recent pregnancy. “I was shocked a little bit,” says Brit. “She’s always been the baby, and now the baby was having a baby. It was mind-boggling.” The pop superstar also tells OK! that she wants her boys to be close to her newborn niece. “I’m sure the boys will be like big brothers to Maddie,” she says. In an unexpected twist, Britney’s downward spiral in recent years ultimately helped to heal the bonds between the singer and her parents, Lynne and Jamie Spears. “God has a way of taking something bad and turning it into something good,” explains Jamie, who also spoke exclusively to OK!. “If this hadn’t happened, I would never have been able to get back with my daughter and have this relationship I have with these two little boys.” Another positive that’s risen out of her darkest days is Britney’s new album, which she expects to hit stores in six to nine months. “I think it is more urban,” she tells OK!. “I’m writing every day, right here at the piano in this living room … This is my best work ever.”

OMG OMG OMG … she sounds great! I dreamed of the day that Britney Spears would get her life back in order and not just look like she is doing better but really actually get better. Everything that we’ve seen in the past few months has really gone on to prove that she has actually gotten her life back in order. I can’t *wait* to read this interview. I cannot even tell you how pleased I am to hear her sounding so well. And she’s doing it properly … little by little, bit by bit … not rushing into things too fast, not giving 45 interviews at once … she’s taking her time and taking care of biz. Welcome back, Britney! We’ve missed you something awful :)

2 more Gold Medals, 2 more World Records, 1 night
Michael Phelps Wins His 10th & 11th Gold Medals

I suppose Michael Phelps‘s performance at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games last night (today in China) should be unbelievable but waking up to report that the man has not won just one Gold Medal but 2 Gold Medals in competition isn’t all that surprising for me … not when we’re talking about our dear Phelpsie. Michael Phelps did win 2 Gold Medals last night and set 2 World Records in the process (thus far, he’s 5 for 5 attempts at Gold Medals at this Summer Olympic Games and 5 for 5 World Records) bringing his overall Gold Medal count to 11 — the most Gold Medals won by any Olympic athlete in the 100+ year history of the Modern Olympic Games. First up last night (today in China), Michael Phelps took home the Gold and set the World Record in the Men’s 200-meter Butterfly event:

Michael Phelps has become the winningest Olympic athlete ever, earning his fourth gold medal of the Beijing Games with a world record in the 200-meter butterfly. The American touched in 1 minute, 52.03 seconds, breaking his old mark of 1:52.09 set at last year’s world championships in Australia. It was Phelps’ 10th career gold medal, breaking a tie with Mark Spitz, Carl Lewis and two others for most golds. He is 4-for-4 so far, setting world records in each of his events.

But that was just his first event of the night, next up came the Men’s 4×200 Freestyle Relay where Phelps and his teammates Ricky Berens, Ryan Lochte and Peter Vanderkaay won more Gold, set another World Record:

On the fifth day of swimming at the Beijing Games, Phelps collected his fourth and fifth gold medals, becoming the career leader in Olympic golds with 11. He broke his own world record in the 200-meter butterfly of 1 minute 52.03 seconds, trimming 0.06 off his 17-month-old mark even though his goggles filled with water when he dived into the water. Less than an hour later, Phelps led off the United States’ 4x-200 freestyle relay in 1:43.31, almost three seconds faster than his nearest competitor, to set the tone for the Americans’ rousing victory. The squad of Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Ricky Berens and Peter Vanderkaay clocked a 6:58.56 — the first sub-seven minute performance — to finish 5.14 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Russia, which was only 0.46 seconds off the listed world record. In a sport where races often are decided by hundredths of a second, Phelps, 23, has won three of his five golds here by a margin of 1.89 seconds or more. “There’s nobody in any sport that can win like he wins,” Reese said. “He’s not just winning, he’s crunching world records and crunching the fields. It’s amazing” … “I couldn’t see anything for the last 100,” said Phelps, who said he gauged where the walls were by counting his strokes. He could not tear his goggles off because he was wearing two caps and the strap was safely tucked between them. “It just kept getting worse and worse through the race,” he said.”I wanted to break the record. I wanted to go 1:51 or better, but for the circumstances I guess it’s not too bad.” Shaking his head at Phelps’s goggles mishap, Reese said: “Just think how fast that would have been. We were looking for an amazingly fast swim the way he had swum in the semifinals and the prelims. He would have been at least a second faster.” Physical exhaustion, mental stress, equipment malfunctions — all of it falls away when Phelps hits the water.

Holy Shizz! He can even win Gold Medals with his eyes shut! Oh yeah, I think at this point it is very safe to say that Michael Phelps is THE greatest Olympic Athlete of all time … arguably the greatest American athlete and by the end of these Olympic Games, possibly the greatest athlete of all time. It sounds like hyperbolic exaggeration but if you consider that the man just keeps winning Gold Medals and keeps doing so in World Record time … it’s not a tough case to make. Phelps has 3 more chances to win Gold Medals/set World Records … bring it on, I say, I have a feeling that Olympic History is going to continue to be made inside the Water Cube at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.
