Her second 'Best of' collection in 3 years
Hilary Duff’s Greatest Hits Of All

Hilary Duff is about to release her 5th album on September 23, 2008 … it is a best of collection of songs entitled Best Of, her second such collection of songs in 3 years (Most Wanted came out in 2005). Here is the cover artwork:

Of her 5 albums, 2 of them are greatest hits compilations … I wasn’t aware that she had enough hits to warrant 2 career retrospectives. At least it’s a purdy picture.

GWB Is An Athletic Supporter

George W. Bush, the president of the United States of America, is in Beijing, China this weekend to cheer on the members of the US Olympic Team and was snapped enjoying some quality time with Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor during their Beach Volleyball competition today. Clearly, he was out to offer his support for the ladies … in pretty much the most inappropriate way possible:

As leader of the free world George Bush has a lot on his mind, not least the charms of his female volleyball and softball teams. The U.S. president is in China for the Olympic games and has been spending his time getting to know the American athletes a little better. They seem to be getting along famously, with Bush giving one contender from the U.S. volleyball team a playful pat on the bottom. Athens gold medallist Misty May-Treanor had laughingly bent over and offered Bush the chance to give her a spank on her rear – a jokey custom between players intended to offer encouragement. The playful President instead tapped her on the small of the back. Misty did not seem intimidated by the President’s attentions, soon coaxing him into joining the action. She asked him if he would play a little “pepper”, a warm-up drill bumping the volleyball back and forth. A somewhat unwilling Bush initially tried to steer clear, replying “No, I’m a pretty good spectator.” But after watching for a few minutes, he donned a sun visor and joined the fun. Despite the distractions of his scantily clad teammates he played a rally of five, in which he hit two but missed the third try as the ball fell a little short.

That’s our prez, y’all. Go USA!

An Opening To Remember

Yesterday afternoon I got to hang out with my friend Tony for a late lunch/hanging out session in Burbank, CA. He and I were supposed to meet in London for the first Kylie Minogue concert (that David and I attended) but he couldn’t get a flight out there in time … yesterday, he told me all about how he finally did make it to London later on in the week and was able to see 3 Kylie shows at the O2 Arena :)

Last night I was supposed to hang out with Mike but I had to take a raincheck since I wasn’t feeling all that great … instead, I stayed home and watched the Opening Ceremonies of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games:

I don’t think I’ve ever been more impressed by an Olympic ceremony, ever. The orchestration of so many performers, the use of technology and the orgy of fireworks that I witnessed last night was just awe-inspiring. The entire spectacle was just so amazing to watch, I can’t even convey it in words. I truly hope all y’all got to watch the ceremonies last night because it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime show to behold. I wonder how any country will be able to top it … the sheer cost and number of people utilized, it was just insane. If anything, it got me really amped up for the Olympic Games to be had over the coming 2 weeks. The sad news of the murder that occurred in Beijing was a cold slap in the face that not even the majesty of the Olympic Spirit can overcome the darkness of man :(

In the end, tho, I hope that only positivity can come from the rest of the Olympic experience this year.

Motherhood Agrees With Jamie Lynn Spears

Here are a few new pics of new mama Jamie Lynn Spears out and about, runnin’ errands (and lookin’ a little worse for the wear) in her hometown of Kentwood, LA yesterday afternoon:

Clearly the girl couldn’t be bothered to run a brush thru her hair so she prolly thought, eh, what the hell and just piled it all up on a big mop on her head. Yeah, she looks like she’s pretty much done with life, no?

Sexy Mama
Britney Spears Shows Off Her Hawt Bod

Yesterday we got our first look at the first promo image for the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards that features our dear Britney Spears along with VMAs host Russell Brand and a 900 lb. elephant (in the room) which immediately got everyone (me included) all jazzed at the prospect that Britney might be making a return to the VMAs stage to redeem herself. Speculation seems pretty convinced that she will be making a triumphant return to the VMAs stage next month, I personally am just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best (she’s gonna do it, she’s gonna do it, she’s gonna do it). Here are a few new pics of Brit Brit rockin’ a hot bikini yesterday here in SoCal:

She really does look amazing again … she has been lookin’ this good for months now. I will continue to proclaim just how pleased I am at how well Britney has been doing these past few amazing months. She’s on task, ready for action and ready to reclaim her throne atop the pop music scene … I can feel it :) She is such a far cry from where she was around this time last year … and she’s gonna just keep gettin’ better — you’ll see.

Rabbie celebrate Abbie's Birthday
Ryan Phillippe, Abbie Cornish Lose Their Shirts In Vegas

Here are a couple o’ pics of Abbie Cornish and Ryan Phillippe enjoying the blistering Las Vegas, NV sun as they chilled poolside at TAO Beach at the Venetian Hotel and Casino yesterday afternoon. Rabbie have made their way to Sin City in order to celebrate Abbie‘s 26th birthday (which was on Thursday) and have been spied at quite a few hot spots all week long:

Arriving in Las Vegas late Wednesday night, Ryan Phillippe and his Stop Loss costar and girlfriend Abbie Cornish hunkered down in a one-bedroom suite at The Palazzo Resort Hotel Casino as the couple celebrated Cornish’s turning 26 – with Phillippe seemingly determined to make this her best birthday ever. Starting the day lounging in a private cabana at Tao Beach, the duo dined on sushi and fruit before heading to the Canyon Ranch Spa for even more relaxation. After taking in Cirque Du Soleil’s O at Bellagio, Phillippe and Cornish were spotted walking hand in hand to dinner at an intimate corner table at Tao Las Vegas, where they were seen snuggling and kissing throughout the meal. Two hours later, their waiter delivered a dessert platter with a birthday candle in the ice cream – a moment Cornish had the waiter capture with her camera. And there was more, with Phillippe leading the birthday girl to a VIP skybox at Tao’s nightclub that overlooked the main dance floor. Sipping Grey Goose cocktails, the duo danced – and kissed – the night away, except for the moment when Cornish unbuttoned Phillippe’s shirt and started pouring ice down his chest. “They really are cute together,” a source said.

Oh yeah, it sounds like Ms. Abbie Cornish is having herself a very happy birthday — and I hate her! Okay, not really but it’s easy to see how someone might be jealous of her status as Ryan Phillippe‘s love interest (I mean, that ice down his chest thing alone … le sigh). After the jump, check out a few more pics of Ryan‘s shirtless hawtness (trust me, it’s worth a look) …

No laughing matter :(
Bernie Mac Dead At 50

Sad, sad news today … after contracting a vicious case of pneumonia, comedian Bernie Mac succumbed to the illness and passed away today. Last weekend, there were rumors going around that Bernie had died but I immediately scoffed at those rumors and was very relieved to hear from his reps that he had not passed away but was only struggling with pneumonia. I am very sad to report that Bernie has, today, lost that struggle:

Bernie Mac, a stand-up comic who played evil-tongued but lovable rogues in films like ‘Bad Santa’ and ‘Mr. 3000′ and combined menace and sentiment as a reluctant foster father on ‘The Bernie Mac Show’ on Fox, died on Saturday in Evanston, Ill. He was 50 and lived near Chicago. The cause was complications from pneumonia, said his publicist, Danica Smith. Mr. Mac, an imposing stage presence with a line of scabrous insults, parlayed his success as a stand-up comedian onto the big screen in a string of comedies that cast him in cameo roles, usually as wily con men like Pastor Clever in ‘Friday’ and Gin, the store detective in ‘Bad Santa.’ He also excelled as short-tempered misanthropes, notably in his starring role as Stan Ross, the nation’s most hated baseball player, in ‘Mr. 3000.’ In 2001, the Fox network took a gamble with ‘The Bernie Mac Show,’ an unconventional family comedy with Mr. Mac portraying a childless married comedian who reluctantly takes in his sister’s three youngsters when she goes into a drug-treatment program. The irascible Mr. Mac made a different kind of TV dad, ‘more Ike Turner than Dr. Spock,’ Chris Norris wrote in a 2002 profile for The New York Times Magazine. Mr. Mac’s special style of tough love — ‘I’m gonna bust your head ’til the white meat shows,’ he warns his surly teenage neice — set the show apart from other family sitcoms and raised a few critical eyebrows, but audiences saw enough of the character’s soft center to find the show touching. ‘The success of my comedy has been not being afraid to touch on subject matters or issues that everyone else is politically scared of,’ Mr. Mac told The Times in 2001. ‘It’s a joke, believe me. I’m not trying to hurt anybody.’ Mr. Mac incorporated aspects of his standup act and during each episode would break the fictional world of the show and address the audience directly. On one show, he swiveled in his chair and said, ‘Now America, tell me again, why can’t I whip that girl?’ ‘The Bernie Mac Show’ show ran for five seasons, and Mr. Mac won Emmy awards as outstanding actor in a comedy series in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Bernard Jeffrey McCullough was born in Chicago to a single mother who inspired him, indirectly, to become a comedian. When he was 5, he told a television interviewer in 2001, he saw her sitting in front of the television set crying. ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’ was playing, and when Bill Cosby began telling a story about snakes in the bathroom, she started laughing despite herself. ‘When I saw her laughing, I told her that I was going to be a comedian so she’d never cry again,’ Mr. Mac said … In 1990, he was invited to do two shows with Def Comedy Jam, a tour featuring young black comedians that was filmed for HBO. Small film roles followed, in ‘Mo’ Money’ (1992), ‘Who’s The Man?’ (1993) and ‘House Party 3′ (1994), as well as an HBO variety series, ‘Midnight Mac,’ and a spot with the Original Kings of Comedy, a tour that showcased some of the most popular contemporary black comedians. The tour, which grossed an astounding $59 million, generated several HBO specials and a film by Spike Lee, ‘The Original Kings of Comedy.’

Man, this is very sad news. I am not a fan of stand-up comedy, not by any means, but Bernie Mac was deffo one of the comedians who could always make me laugh. I absolutely fell in love with him in The Original Kings of Comedy. I kid you not, I have never embarrassed myself so fully in public in all my life. I promise, I am not exaggerating here by any means … Bernie‘s routine in Kings of Comedy (and if you’ve seen it — and I implore you to seek it out and watch it if you haven’t — you know that Bernie‘s routine in the movie is roughly the basis for his TV show The Bernie Mac Show … but cleaned up, a lot) had me laughing so loudly, so riotously that I had to leave the theater to stop laughing. True story. The news of his passing is just very sad, I doubt I’ll ever be able to laugh that much ever again now that he’s gone. I feel I must also add that Bernie Mac played the first African American Bosley in any of the Charlie’s Angels TV shows or movies — he took over for Bill Murray in Charlie’s Angels 2 and did a hilarious job. Again, he will be sorely missed … and will never be replaced. May you rest in eternal peace, Bernie … thank you for all the laughs.
