Earlier this month we learned that Britney Spears and Kevin Federline reached an agreement where the matter of child custody concerning their two young sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, would be settled. Yesterday, in LA County court, the agreement was finalized … signed, sealed and delivered — the case is closed:

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline’s custody settlement was signed Friday by a judge, officially ending their nearly two-year custody battle. In the deal reached last week, Federline retained sole custody of Preston, 2 1/2, and Jayden, 1 1/2. Spears – who is currently allowed two visits and one overnight per week – will get an additional sleepover by year’s end, barring any setbacks. “She’s thrilled,” the pop star’s attorney Laura Wasser told PEOPLE. “To have more time with her kids has been her motivation to get well. In light of her outstanding conservatorship, she couldn’t have asked for anything more.” Spears also agreed to increase Federline’s child support to $20,000 a month (a $5,000 increase) and pay off his $250,000 legal tab. Documents show the child support increase went into effect on July 15, and that Spears’s father, who remains in legal control of her affairs until a July 31 hearing, approved of the settlement terms. “This has been a long ordeal [for Kevin] and for it to be over makes him very happy,” his lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan previously said.
But wait … while this may seem like bad news for Britney, it may not necessarily be so, not in the long run — read on. After the jump, check out a couple of the official court documents from this settled case …

See folks, Laura Wasser is a brilliant lawyer and she deffo knows what she is doing. Because child custody cases are never really totally settled, the issue of child custody of the Spederline kids could go to court again in the future. Consider this … Britney and Kevin have been battling for custody for the past 2 years, without either side wanting to give up their position. Britney, in the meantime, cleans up her act and wins back her brilliant lawyer Laura Wasser. Suddenly, Britney agrees to give up custody to Kevin in exchange for more visitation rights … and case is closed? Prolly not really and surely not for long. Wasser knows that Britney will have to prove to the court that she is a fit mother and is prolly planning to take K-Fed back to court, mebbe in a year’s time, to try for custody again. This is all guesswork on my part but, again, I’m familiar with Wasser‘s track record … this isn’t a loss for her, it’s a strategic move. Whether or not Britney will eventually, one day, ever win physical custody of her children remains to be seen … but my guess is that there is a plan in action that is working towards that goal.

I just am glad to see that this is coming to a close and they can get on with the IMPORTANT job of taking good care of their kids……….however that happens!
It makes more sense for Kevin to have custody. Brittney is the one working full time and traveling to promote her career. His career is??? raising kids.
“Britney is the one working full time and traveling to promote her career. His career is ??? raising kids.” Are you kidding me with that shit?!! Britney is a mother and should be able to balance being one and having a career if a career is what she wants. Kids are not toys. You can’t just give them away when you’re bored with them and want to do other things. Having to work is no excuse for not being able to take care of your children. There are a tons of celebrity moms who are working full time promoting themselves and their projects…still raising their children. I just hope that Britney makes the most of the time she does get to spend with her boys. She needs to get it together and be the mother she so desired to be.
You’re right that having to work is no excuse for not being able to take care of your children. But what does taking care really mean? Spending every minute of everyday with them or taking care to make sure their needs are accounted for. “There are a tons of celebrity moms who are working full time promoting themselves and their projects…still raising their children.” – The only difference is that these other celebrity (single) moms are paying nannies to look after their kids. In Britney’s case, she’s paying child support to their father. I’m not saying that one way is better over the other. Heck, most kids these days have spent their days in some sort of daycare. It’s just a fact of life for working moms. But that doesn’t mean that we don’t love our kids any less. It doesn’t mean that we’re ‘passing them off cause we’re bored of them’ It means she’s finally being responsible and taking care of her kids needs, as well as her own. She’s getting herself well so that she can one day care for her kids in her own home.
I think Trent’s guesswork on this matter is a pretty good guess.
There is no way Britney is giving up on her kids, give it some time and she will have them home where they belong.
I also want to mention that Kevin has custody of those kids, but every pic I see of those kids they are with nannies. So lay off Britney if she has to use a nanny cause she’s working. What’s Kevin’s excuse he is not even working is he?
I think she will eventually get her kids back. I’m hoping so….
Hmmm – so who has the kids when Kevin is partying in Vegas??? That’s his career – when he’s not spawning more innocent babies into the world. Get it fixed Kevin …
