From ‘Beverly Hills’ To The Valley
With all the hype surrounding the new Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off show set to debut this Fall on The CW (especially considering that the 3 main girls from the original series have signed on to appear on the new show) you might expect there to be more talk about the BH, 90210 boys as well. Unfortch for all you Brandon Walsh fans, Jason Priestley has revealed that he will not be reprising his role as Brandon on 90210 when it debuts this Fall … but he does add that he may be up for directing an episode or two. Jason popped up over the weekend with his wife Naomi Lowde and his daughter Ava at the Fashion Square Mall in Sherman Oaks, CA … here are a few pics:

Bad news “90210” fans, it seems Jason Priestley will not be returning to the halls of West Beverly as blue-eyed man candy Brandon Walsh, in the new version of the show. “I think I sort of ran the gamut with Brandon — 249 episodes” Priestley told “Access Hollywood” on Thursday, while promoting the episode he directed of ABC’s “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.” “I think Brandon did his time.” Priestley confirmed he had been asked to reprise his role as Brenda Walsh’s twin brother on the CW’s version of “90210.” While he declined the offer, he may return behind the scenes — as a director. “They’re talking to my people about seeing if they can slot me in over there,” he said. “I directed more episodes of ‘90210′ than anybody. I directed 18 episodes.” With his former co-worker Jennie Garth set to return and Shannen Doherty in talks to head back to Beverly Hills, Priestley was excited by the idea of potentially directing his old castmates. “That would be fun! That would be a ton of fun,” Priestley enthused. “That would be awesome to see.”
HMMM. I just don’t understand the mentality that “Brandon did his time”. I can’t believe that Jason Priestley wouldn’t be up for doing a cameo or two on the show. There seems to be this erroneous belief that the old BH, 90210 characters are being asked to fully reprise their roles for the duration of the show — the new show is not about them. The alums will prolly show up in an ep or two and that’s that. Folks expecting the new 90210 to be a high school reunion of the old gang are going to be disappointed. I just don’t understand Jason’s refusal to tape a cameo or two (that is, unless he wasn’t really asked and is just trying to save face). That being said, Jason Priestly was on the original show for many, many years (well past the show’s prime, I might add) … I *guess* I can *kinda* see his point, if true, of not wanting to step back into those shoes. I’m not a huge Jason Priestley fan or anything but I do think it’d be cool to see him pop up on 90210 again. Additionally, there has been ZERO talk about Luke Perry reprising his role as Dylan McKay, Ian Ziering reprising his role as Steve Sanders or Brian Austen Green reprising his role as David Silver — tho he stands the best chance at making an appearance on the spin-off … David Silver is married to Donna Martin (Tori Spelling’s character) and she is slated to appear on the show. Maybe her hubby will, too? Poor Ian Ziering … his comeback revival might’ve peeked with his appearance on Dancing with the Stars a couple of seasons ago. Couldn’t the new 90210 producers throw the guy a bone? I could buy that Steve Sanders would be sad enough to still want to hang out with the new class of youngsters at West Beverly High … maybe he could work with Nat at the Peach Pit?

Steve Sanders could appear standing outside of the Peach Pit, watching the kids going in and out, and then saying “Ya know what I like about these high school girls? I get older and they stay the same age”. Just kidding…kinda…

Poor Steve Sanders. Unfortch, I have ZERO interest in watching this show. Too many shows are being made about wealthy teens having sex, doing drugs, etc. And it’s not showing these bad things in hopes of educated, but rather just for entertainment purposes. Have we thrown all morals out the window now??

I was at a party with Jason Priestley back in the mid-90’s when he was still feeling like the big guy and he was such a rude ass. I was standing next to him at one point, he was just standing there looking at people and I turned to him, smiled and said “hey, hows it going”? and he looked at me from head to toe and shook his head and went “pffft” and walked off. Jason, you are unemployed because you are a prick.

UGH! Jason needs to get off his high horse….and so do those hold outs from Friends.
If people constantly remember one role you played, it means they LOVED it and you did a damn good job. Get over it.

90210 is dead, as dead as Degrassi high. We need original stories not rehashed old ones.

Whoops! Yes, I meant Dylan McKay … I somehow always type “Dylan Walsh” … thanks!!

Tori Spelling actually pulled out of the 90210 show recently for personal reasons so I guess thats why David Silver hasn’t been asked to join the cast

Tori did not pull out, she just won’t be appearing in the season premiere since she’s still recuperating from the recent birth of her baby, I mentioned this HERE: http://pinkisthenewblog.com/home/shannen-doherty-and-jennie-garth-return-to-90210/

I think that by “Brandon did his time” means that Jason was on every single episode and he’s over it. I mean, not everything old needs to be made new again…
As much as I LLLLLOOOOOVVVEEE Brenda, I am kinda hoping Shannen says no thanks. But she is the one who will bring in the viewers..

Luke said no, and I thought Brian Austin Green said no to the show, too…??
Ian had said he’d consider it, didn’t he?

To see an example of how old stars will return to the new version of the show, one simply has to go back to the premier of Degrassi: TNG. Much like BH 90210 was an American version of the original Degrassi series, 90210 is following the new Degrassi’s lead. The pilot contained many cameos by favorite stars. Some actors made frequent appearances (teachers/parents) but most only appear one or two times. I’ve always held that Degrassi was a major influence for the 90210 series, so I’m curious to see how the new 90210 works with it’s main character played by a current Degrassi actor, and one who has undergone such an interesting character arch on that show.

Dylan McKay would be too OLD! I mean, yeah he was hot back in the day, but he still looked like a 30 year old playing a high school student (I still would’ve done him). Besides that, what would his character be doing now? Would he be the janitor? He wasn’t exactly “most likely to succeed.” Let’s not revisit the underachievement that was Dylan McKay.

I am the first to admit that I loved this show until it’s very last last episode and still watch it on SoapNet when I can. I think they should have Luke Perry on for one episode when Jennie Garth takes all of her high schoolers to visit him in rehab. It could be the after-school special “don’t do drugs” episode!

am I the only one to notice that Tori Spelling’s character’s name on the new show will be Donna Martin Silver??? and her daughter’s nickname is Silver? anyone? anyone?
July 14th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
Yeah, Donna and David as a married couple makes sense, but I’m not sure how I feel about this show being recycled. I think I was the only kid who could have cared less about it when it was on. I only got into it during the last couple of seasons. There’s a certain kind of desperation being displayed when the network has to go back to shows like this.

But isn’t Brian Austin Green currently on The Sarah Connor Chronicles (terminator series)?? He probably would have scheduling conflicts, don’t you think?
