Daddy Matty Embraces Fatherhood

Yesterday I posted a few pics of Matthew McConaughey taking his babymama Camila Alves and his newborn son Levi Alves to a beach in Malibu, CA with him for a little surfing outing … and today I have a few more of those pics but others of Matthew taking his son out for a little stroll, just the two of them and of Matthew going out for a jog — while wearing an annoying t-shirt … argh! First, the cuteness:

Aww … I really like the sight of Matthew pushing his son in a baby carriage. While I would enjoy the this sight a whole lot more if Matthew were wearing less clothing, I shant really complain this time …

… after all, there is more cause for complaint with these pics of Matthew jogging AND wearing too many clothes:

BOOO! I think we’ve really, finally lost the over-shirtless Matthew McConaughey forever. I’ve been saying it for weeks now but I didn’t really want to believe it. Blah!

This post is saved with these extra pics of Matthew, Camila and Levi at a beach in Malibu this weekend … you will note that Camila (who looks absolutely stunning mere weeks after giving birth) is carting around baby Levi in this baby sling (a point that a few Pink readers alerted me to) and that Matthew looks really, really, really good in his rubber wetsuit:

You know, whatevs … it may be too soon to bring a newborn infant to the beach but at least the family is doing things together. I’m pretty convinced that Matthew is going to heap so much lurve on that baby boy that it’s gonna be too cute to stand. Again, I’m sure it won’t be long til the two dudes are out trolling for beers, chicks, whatevs once Levi is old enough to walk. I just hope for Matthew‘s sake that the little boy turns out as “manly” as his father is … heaven forbid the opposite turn out to be the case. I dunno tho … what do you think … will Matthew be the kind of father to embrace a son who isn’t interested in the same kinds of things that he is (booze, girls, etc.)?

San Diego Comic Con is a wrap
So Dork The ‘Con’ Of Man

And so … another San Diego Comic Con has come to pass … and as usual, I was out of the country and unable to attend — but there are a lot of fun pictures to check out that will kinda sorta make it feel like I’m part of the experience but, you know, without having to actually endure all the ridiculous costumery in person ;) Here are a few pics of some of the more zealous Comic Con attendees this year:

And here are a few pics of some of the principal stars of the NBC hit Heroes who attended the Con this year to promote the upcoming third season of the show:

Honestly, there are just too many things that were presented at this year’s Con that I can’t possibly post them all … but Entertainment Weekly was in the hiz taking photos of some of my fave sci-fi/comic booky things at this year’s convention to give a nice overview. After the jump, check out a few EW photos of some of my fave things that I would’ve checked out had I attended this year’s Comic Con

Dresses the part
Tori Amos Does Comic Con

Tori Amos, all dolled up in a creative and interesting-looking superhero-esque outfit (think Ferosha Couture goes to Comic Con), made an appearance at the San Diego Comic Con over the weekend to sign copies of the new book Comic Book Tattoo which is a collection of graphic comicbook stories based on her music an lyrics. Here are a few pics of Tori at this weekend’s event and a portion of a blogpost devoted to the Comic Book Tattoo convention panel with featued Tori and 6 of the book’s contributors:

The panel for Comic Book Tattoo was great. They had not just Tori Amos but 6 of the writers and artists who worked on the book, and most important of all, they kept it balanced. Too often when you have one high-profile guest, the panel ends up focusing entirely on that person. But everyone had a chance to talk about the process. One of the things that Tori emphasized was that she’d wanted the artists to have complete freedom, because she’d been on too many projects where someone stepped in and said something like, “Did you think about the demographic?” Rantz Hoseley expanded on that, pointing out that many of the artists kept asking him (or, more precisely, Tori, through him) whether they could do things like do a story without word balloons. They were accustomed to that kind of limitation working on other projects. Ted McKeever mentioned a Superman story he turned in that got rejected because he drew the wrong number of belt loops. And Rantz took great pleasure in telling them to go for it, whatever it was. At one point, Tori mentioned that when she read the stories, she didn’t hear the songs they were based on in her head — she heard new music, which she’s now working on. She and several of the artists talked about the cyclical nature of inspiration, with different kinds of arts all inspiring each other.

Because I’ve never attended a Comic Con in my life, I’m not all that familiar with the way the panel discussions work … it sounds pretty difficult to get into all the panel discussions that may interest you because the demand is so high. I’m thankful that this blogger was able to attend and give a report — it sounds like it was a great discussion. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my Limited Edition version of Comic Book Tattoo so I can finally see what all the excitement is about. Tori Amos‘s music has touched me in such a way that I am curious to see how other folks have interpreted her music graphically and storywise. This is such a cool endeavor, I’m excited that so much work is going into the book’s promotion.

PS: For the record, I would prolly have many colorful things to say if any other person were caught wearing an outfit like this in public but for an artist like Tori Amos (or Björk) I am very willing to cut some slack (also consider, there are a lot of freaks at Comic Con … she was surely not the oddest looking person there). Tori is a Goddess and should be allowed to dress the part … even if sometimes it may look like she dressed the part in the dark and on drugs, I can’t really hate on her ;)

The 'Lights in the Sky' Tour gets underway
Nine Inch Nails Officially Hit The Road

Nine Inch Nails officially kicked off their Lights in the Sky Tour at the Pemberton Festival in Vancouver, British Coloumbia this past Friday night (after they played a private fans only show in LA as a tour warm-up last week) and by all accounts managed to rock the house. NIN closed out Day 1 of the fest on the mainstage and gave the crowd a performance they won’t soon forget … natch. Here are a few pics from NIN‘s set on Friday night:

Check out the Much Music blog to see a couple more NIN pics as well. OMG OMG OMG … I am so excited for this tour! It’s been a very long time since I’ve been able to see NIN on a big stage like this (tho, I was lucky enough to be able to see them do a small club show in Barcelona, Spain last year) so I’m very much looking forward my upcoming Toledo, OH and LA, CA shows. So as not to spoil anything for those of you who want to remain unspoiled, I put the show’s set list under the cut. After the jump, check out the full setlist from this weekend’s show at the Pemberton Festival

Heads south of the border for some R+R
Britney Spears Takes A Holiday

Our dear Britney Spears has decided to flee the country, at least for the weekend, and was spotted in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico bikini-clad and basking in the sun. She was also photographed enjoying an impromptu poolside dance with a handsome stranger … after the week she’s had (agreeing to settle her 2-year long custody battle with ex-hubby Kevin Federline) she was prolly in the mood for a little vacay:

With her custody drama with Kevin Federline finally over, Britney Spears is back in shape and ready for fun. The pop star escaped to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico for a sunshine holiday with a group of friends, including longtime pal George Maloof, who owns the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. After slipping into a skimpy white bikini, the singer flirted up a storm with another male companion, giggling as the pair danced around the pool arm-in-arm. And for posterity … a female friend caught all the action on a video camera. The party later moved to the beach, where Britney frolicked on the foreshore before cooling her heels in the sea. The star is making the most of her free time after officially agreeing to give her ex husband Kevin Federline sole custody of the couple’s two sons, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden, 1.

I, for one, think it’s a great idea for her to get away for a bit and to get in some relaxation time. I imagine it wasn’t very easy for her to decide to end the custody battle with K-Fed but, it is my contention, that her compliance is part of a bigger plan to one day win back physical custody of her children. Without going out into my guesswork again (click HERE if you’d like to revisit my theory), I’ll just say that Britney is finally seeing the bigger picture and is working for a lasting resolution that will hopefully work in her favor one day. In the meantime, she deserves a vacay holiday … and with a handsome gent, to boot. Good for her. I’m deffo in her corner.

Rumors continue to swirl concerning her possible appearance at the 2008 MTV VMAs in September … I pray she does make a triumphant return. If so, she will deffo do it right this time, I just know it :)
